Well, I'm leaving for the Iowa convention todaySubmitted by spacehabitats on Fri, 06/15/2012 - 10:05
In a couple of hours my wife, her friend, my son, my brother, my sister-in-law, and myself (all state delegates) will be piling into a mini-van and heading for Des Moines. Oh, and my twelve year old daughter (not a delegate) who will be staying with her aunt while we go and try to get Mommy elected as a NATIONAL delegate. Tomorrow its Daddy's turn.
In 2008 it was a little lonely at the state convention. Four years ago I remember standing outside the convention center with a group of about 50 Ron Paul supporters strategizing and socializing before the district caucuses. Since then some of those people have gone on to become state central committee members.
This evening we have rented a room in a nearby hotel that should seat 500 people.
Last time we were so few that we barely registered on the convention radar.
This time the opposition is out in full force.
"First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you..."
I don't know if we will win tonight.
I don't know if we will win tomorrow.
But I DO know that we WILL win someday.
And that's what really matters.
We did win tonight. Not just Mrs. Spacehabitats. We swept of delegates and alternates in our district. (And at least one other district.)Yipee!
But tomorrow is the big test. That's when they try to take the big prize away from us. If the establishment's succeeds in throwing out the nominating committee's slate and substitutes their "unity slate" they will have the majority. (BTW, what is it with the neocons and their obsession with describing things with their opposite? For example the very UNpatriotic "Patriot Act", and now the very divisive and openly hostile "unity" slate. With the nomination for Romney assured, why give a slap in the face to the Ron Paul delegates who are the future of the GOP?)
Anyway, we didn't finish until almost midnight and it will be an early day tomorrow.
