Every time Ron Paul practices what he preaches and decentralizes his campaign, another miracle happens. The first smart thing HQ did was add the "meetup" link. The second smart thing HQ did was add the donation ticker on the site.... Now, the third smart thing is this Grassroots Precinct site!
Decentralizing the campaign into autonomous units is the way to go!
This is going to work, please sign up. Then click on the "Recruit" button to invite all your "Ron Paul" friends. Then click around at the site and learn what to do. It's all there! Step by step how to win your precinct for Ron Paul! Please, please, please tell all your Ron Paul friends about this.

I just signed up as a Pricinct Leader...
... it couldn't be any easier. They have some training videos that will answer any questions that you might have, you can print a map of your pricinct, you get names and phone number lists and addresses, so that you can call as well as canvass and it gives you contact info for other Precinct Leaders in your area so that you can network with other "Motivated" Ron Paul supporters.
It's pretty cool and should be a great learning experience, especially for any of us that may be considering getting into local politics.
It looks like we are covering around 5,000 out of about 180,000 that need to be covered. Let's go people... it's time to RISE!!!

This should be like front page, right under breaking news. I was on the Katherine Albrecht show today as a guest to explain this and how to incorporate the movie Freedom To Fascism, and even she didn't know about this strategy!!!
We have to have people calling in to Freedom radio shows and such and spreading this idea. Every host on WTPRN and others should be talking this up like it's coming back in style.

What does a precinct leader do?
Take Ownership
A precinct leader takes ownership of their own precinct. It becomes your responsibility to inform your neighbors and get them out to vote. The campaign provides names, phone numbers, and information on the political tendencies of people in your district. They also provide training videos and a way to organize who you find to be supporters. It's certainly a commitment, but, again, it decentralizes the whole movement and puts it in the hands of the people closest to the vote: us.

...and stay there! Honestly, there is so much griping about this and that on this site that gets more attention...and this particular post is THE most important. You are not reaching voters on this site. You are bickering with current supporters and, unfortunately, sometimes losing potential supporters. We all need to get out on the streets and talk with people (with smiles on our faces and not this aggressive, reactionary behavior so often displayed here), registration forms and literature in-hand. I recently signed up to be a precinct leader and only then did I realize how damn important it is.
If you are fed-up with the way the campaign is handling things...get out and do something! If you can't get out, write letters, make phone calls! If you can't do this, donate to the grassroots efforts that are going on everywhere.
And really, while you're doing the hard work, have a little faith. Negativity really does effect outcomes.

I am a volunteer County
I am a volunteer County Coordinator in Illinois for the Precinct Leader program.
A few words to address some concerns:
If you finish your precinct you can start another one. No worries.
It is very, very easy to start doing this and once you start making the calls you will breeze right through them.
If you feel overwhelmed and think you do not have enough manpower, take heart. Other campaigns have virtually no campaign offices. (We have them vastly outnumbered in almost every state. For example, in Illinois we have 6 and all other Republicans combined have 1.) While it may seem like we are not doing enough, we are doing more than the others.
This is THE MOST IMPORTANT thing you can POSSIBLY be doing right now.
In Super Tuesday states:
Sign waving = nothing
Canvassing = very little
Precinct Leader = everything

How did you become "County Coordinator"?
How did you become "County Coordinator"? And does that give you any information or capabilities in the system BEYOND that of a single precinct leader? I saw some request for this possibility on RPF a while back -- but there was never any real response and if this is available, it has been a well-kept secret.
BTW, in Illinois it is my understanding that you are all skipping the lit drops and just doing the phone calls. That would certainly make it a "breeze" but are your really reaching out with information that way?
Sadly, this will fail as well...
Why?
Because it is being run as a weirdly "decentralized-but-centrally-organized" thing. Each "precinct leader" has to sign up separately, and can sign up for just one precinct.
My (rural) county has over 100 precincts. (Heck just my VERY rural township alone -- half of which is covered by state forest land -- has 3 precincts).
This means that while my meetup is the ONLY group in the County and has around 20 members (not all of whom are "active" in any sense of the word), it is impossible to anticipate that more than maybe 5 of the members will be willing to sign up for a precinct.
This means we will be able to cover *maybe* 5 percent of the county. And trust me, not all of my active members will cover each of their precincts in an equal manner -- after all, doing a precinct requires multiple duties: lit drop, voter ID, calls & rides for GOTV, etc.
We COULD cover this in a much more efficient manner (via teamwork and division of labor) -- but the system is designed to specifically PROHIBIT and INHIBIT any of the local organizers from doing so. Beyond the vaguest suggestion of "combining orders for supplies" -- any other "Combined efforts" are a prohibited NO-NO according to the system (everyone is required to agree that you will NOT divulge your "precinct data" to ANYONE else, etc.)
Instead, each such volunteer is PRESUMED to be a one-man, all-talented, fully equipped campaigning & canvassing expert (who also presumably will be fully equipped with transportation, supplies, enough time to do door-to-door work, a VOIP phone system, and the additional time to make ALL of the calls to his precinct personally -- while simultaneously handing out literature near his polling location, and serving as a "poll watcher" for his local precinct, etc.)
Will that work in 180,000 places around the country?
In someone's dreams, I guess... In the REAL WORLD, I seriously doubt this is gonna happen (REAL campaigns -- the ones with experienced campaign staffs -- already know this and use a hierarchical model for their precinct allocations). Oh well...
Quit Whining
Quit whining and tell someone. The person that developed this system for RP is active on either DP or RonPaulForums.com (I can't remember). I suggest you COMMUNICATE THIS TO THEM rather than dropping this pessimism on the entire community.
I've signed up and my precinct in the Boston area is waaaaay bigger than I can handle. So you should take your experience as potentially out of the norm and carry on doing what you can.
In general, the grassroots have been hankering for ways to contribute. If this system weren't in place you can bet your life many more people would be complaining it DIDN'T exist.
Actually, I've tried but no one is listening.
Whining? Pessimism? No, just trying to dampen the hyper-expectations of the uber fanboys with a dose of reality.
Simply stated, as it is currently configured, there is NO WAY that all 180,000 precinct leader positions will be filled. Even half of that would be a miracle, I would anticipate that they will be lucky to reach even 10% -- 18,000 would be a REALLY good participation rate (but that means the remaining 90% will go untouched as currently designed).
Yes, the person who developed this is active on RPF -- but he is under fairly tight restrictions by the campaign (due apparently to rather burdensome "agreements" that were made to get the underlying database).
BTW, I not only run my local meetup, but help by running a meetup that tries its best to coordinate the activities of the meetups in our entire state. I say tries because it's like herding feral cats. Sadly, since we do not have an official campaign "staff" person assigned to our state, we get nothing for assistance from HQ -- we are mainly seen as a cash-cow and source of donations for other "earlier" states.
Attempts to discuss this (and many other things) with the campaign offices are virtually ALWAYS met with a "that person is out of the office" with no knowledge of when they will return. Emails go unanswered (even if you literally BEG for a response of it just having been received and read).
On top of which, the campaign has taken the "no coordination" rule to a ridiculously absurd extreme -- and it feels like personnel there often seem to use it simply as an excuse to NOT share any information at all, even basic info that SHOULD be public knowledge -- on top of which, they seem to be unable to even keep my basic contact information ("lost" several times, just like supply request orders I've made, last one took nearly 8 weeks, multiple phone calls emails, etc.)

One or two of you guys may want to volunteer for McCain, for Clinton, Huckabee, etc. and see how the "front-runners" are organized. Could provide some valuable insights.

Speed is of the essence
The key to this working is both in the number of supporters that sign up and in the speed that the campaign can fulfill and ship the supplies to 180,000 people. Supplies you need to order from the campaign or hopefully have on hand from our grass roots efforts.
The good part is everyone can participate - no doorbells to ring unless you want too. Just walk your neighborhood and drop off literature. Luckily, I just received my order of DVDs from the Ronpauldvdproject and I have the same number of Republicans as DVDs in my precinct. It may be wise to include a heartfelt form letter asking for their support and vote for Ron Paul from a concerned Neighbor.
The other idea I was playing with is a Voter Response postcard where they can list their voting stance and comment addressed back to me. (I doubt I can afford to make them pre-paid though)
Time is short have to decide and act fast though.

It was sooooooo easy. Just had to make some phone calls, attend a meeting, and I was ratified (zero competition!). People, the other candidates don't have anything near the grassroots that we do. This is so simple, yet so important!!! This is how we really WIN!
