For Those Who Wish To Throw A Final Hail Mary Pass In Tampa And Say "No Way!"
Submitted by Jefferson on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 15:46I would like to start a thread to forge some ideas about the best strategy to "convert" the so called Romnnney delegates, before they get to the convention. We may have a couple hundred committed delegates, but we'll have thousands more supporters that could help in a number of ways.
Here are some ideas that stood out to me:
We have to think about this from the perspective of the delegates that will be showing up. How can we refine our message in a way that grabs their attention in such a short period of time?
I would like to see the opposing delegates exposed to these powerful messages from the time they land at the airport in Tampa, as they travel to their hotels, and as they travel to the RNC.
I think we should look at Tampa like the military does when they are about to invade a city. The completely take over the airwaves, drop leaflets, and establish control points.
Imagine seeing a contingent of active duty veterans with their respective gear on, that shows how RP has received more support from the military than ALL of the others combined. This is at the airport, and every other place we think the delegates might be hanging out.
Someone had mentioned slipping DVD's or comparison pamphlets under the doors of delegates that will be staying in the most likely hotels for the RNC. I think that is a good idea.
We could have signs on Taxi cabs, with short messages.
Maybe advertise on the hotel TV channels where they will be staying.
Have sign holding supporters lining the roads that lead from the airport to the hotels.
Possibly billboards in strategic areas?
Thousands of supporters that have T-shirts that say:
"Just say NO to Romney" (with the "o" in Romney as the Ohmamma symbol)
These are just a few ideas. I know that we can come up with much better and much more.
If Tampa is where we make our last stand, then let's map it out, and focus our energy on it like never before. If the plan is to appeal to the delegates consciences, then let's use our combined creativity, determination, and talent to do just that.
I don't want to go to Tampa to merely have an impact on a platform that will most likely be ignored. I want to go for ALL the marbles. If you think there is promise in this, then I would like to hear your ideas, so we can begin to implement them when the time comes. The time to plan and execute is growing short.

I've found that I make more progress talking about the things I believe in rather than the things that I think they are wrong about. What I mean is rather than have a bunch of signs that say "Ronmey is for the NDAA" put up a sign that says " RP wants out of the UN". So instead of immediately putting them on the defensive you make them at least think, "I agree with that". Make as many signs of positions that we are sure they will agree with and plaster them on phone polls and such. Then you might subliminally make them think that they aren't that far off from what RP advocates. My thoughts anyway

...that says in BOLD letters "Romney wants NDAA". Then make it sound as if it's something that they need to learn about. Add the phrase "please check out this website to see if you want to support him in it", then put in a website about the facts. I can guarantee most of them do not know or understand what NDAA is. If the card is not an attack of Romney and just made into something they will be totally curious about, they may check into it. It should have a link to the part of the debate where he said he would sign it also. If they understood the facts and believed them, I don't see how they could still back him. Business cards are fairly cheap and could go anywhere and everywhere!

I think that it's great people want to have an impact at the convention. But seriously, we need to be marketing to the delegates now with letters and phone calls and personal meetings as much as possible, NOW. By the time they get to Tampa it's too late to convert most of them. We need to be contacting them between NOW and Tampa, more importantly is NOW!!! An old marketing technique that never fails is personalized letter, phone call, personalized letter, phone call, personalized letter, phone call. My 2 cents worth trying to save this dying Republic turned Empire!

We all agree that Obama must be defeated
If you go in attacking their guy and his weaknesses you basically are attacking them and their choices. Nobody likes to be told they are making a mistake, especially if they are.
My suggestion would be to develop the talking points around how much better Ron Paul is than Obama and how Paul would have a better chance of defeating Obama. The unifying message for the GOP has been Anybody But Obama, so show them how Paul is strongest against Obama with more Independents and ex supporters of Obama backing him. Ask questions like can we really afford to lose the youth vote back to Obama? Every vote that switches from Paul to Obama counts twice against the GOP, one less vote on our side and one more vote on their side. Don't imply your vote would switch, just that there are thousands of students attending Paul's rallies who are likely to. Suggest they search "Ron Paul townhall" on YouTube to see what you mean. For many this will be an eye opener since it hasn't been on the MSM.
Push our mutual concern that Obama not win. Push Paul's points of agreement with the current party platform (smaller government, lower taxes, etc) so they see we agree with them in many ways. Stress our deep concern that the deficit is not getting addressed and point out how our own economy is very similar to Greece's.

It's glaringly evident the MSM has blacked out RP rallies, thousands show up and no media coverage? Maybe if the other delegates, most of whom I bet are unaware of the Media manipulation, were aware of MSM bias, they may be tempted to at least question it. Other questions should be asked, politely and respectfully with a true sincere approach. Are the other delegates aware of Goldman Sachs backing both Obama and Romney? Are they aware of the vote irregularities in the primaries and caucuses? We should ask them, do they truly believe Romney will win, or are they supporting him because the RNC and the MSM says so? Are they aware of the thousands of new people RP has inspired to support the GOP and ask, can Romney get their support? If not, can he still win?

Clear channel owns Limbaugh, Savage, Levin, Hannity, Beck and Gibson, all who in lockstep level egregious smears against the Liberty movement and Ron Paul.
Well we won against the smears and distortions because these people got shunned and lost tons of listeners. Ron Paul came out the other end unscathed. We hit the critical mass of 11%. But the main point is the true believers in the GOP are tooled by the deceivers. They need to understand the racketeering charges leveled have teeth. They need to understand the level of dishonesty they are part and parcel to if they vote for Mitt.

I think an anonymous forum somewhere only for delegates to the convention, with delegates inviting delegates, would be great.
They need to talk to each other beforehand if they want to have a real convention. I've seen any number of State conventions talked about, including mine that I witnessed, where the majority of delegates want to nominate there own delegates from the floor and write their own platform, and have the insiders cheat it away.
The reason they couldn't overcome it, is although there was a majority, they won't all Ron Paul supporters and weren't organized and didn't know what they were doing. So many delegates want a brokered convention and not Romney, that we should reach out to them. An anonymous forum *for delegages only* might be a good thing.

for creating a large Ron Paul presence. This may be a dumb idea, but it seems to be a popular thing to have one of those huge honkin' tour buses outside venues with campaign stuff on them. It is going to be hot in August and cold refreshments could be handed out from a Ron Paul tour bus by friendly RP people.

My primary recommendation is to maximize, in every way possible, our outreach people being as much like the people they are wishing to reach.
For example, you mentioned "veterans". Many of the young veterans(and some pretending to be veterans) have gotten the foolish notion that our cause is aided by trying to appear as much like the Vietnam era/60's protest veterans. That may be "cool" or may help hanging w/ our dudes and trying to score our chicks but it works strongly and actively against what we are struggling to accomplish.
I cannot stress enough that if you cannot or will not "Blend" with these people and/or present an image they respect-DO NOT TRY to convert them, do not approach them and best of all remain completely out of their sight.
I'll go even further than above-If you see anyone claiming to be an RP supporter that deviates from the Republican ideal model and/or is getting in a pissing contest w/ those we need to convert make them leave. If they resist reason on this matter-they are likely there deliberately to make us look bad and be less effective(an agent provocateur of sorts/anti-conversion operative).

Make them think YOU ARE one of them
Make calm, polite, respectful points about your concerns w/ Romney.
Do not try to convert each one before moving on-plant a few seeds during polite/upbeat-Let's kick Obama "the Socialist" out of the WH" brief chats.
If you cannot weave any points seamlessly into a conversation-better to wait for other opportunities.
We will fare far better taking the sly subversive route than going in with the Full Frontal Assault to storm the Bastille.

before you meet your fellow delegates, know in your deepest core, that YOU are THEM. Now, there is just US. Working together to oust Obama, but even more importantly, to stand for "We the People", the Constitution, and sanity.
There was a time we didn't know lots of important info about what real freedom and real conservatism is, or what we have to do to help it grow. We were all once students (and the best of us still are). Have patience with any confusion.
Trust in your fellow delegates' good hearts, take time to get to know their values and some of the things most important to them, and the paradigm WILL shift. It already has.
