. . .the honorable thing is to graciously accept it - and move on. That's how you hope others would treat you, right?
He could have been an arrogant prick and told them all to "take a hike" (like he did to the man before he pushed him). However, he apologized to the body and to the individual.
If his bad behavior had continued - then he wasn't sincere in his apology, and he needs to find something new to do that doesn't tax his nerves quite so heavily.

and if you called the police, they would have taken him to the pokey.
It was on tape
This is the District 2 chairman, not the state chair. The day before the actual conventions the districts reconvened to go about district business. Kinda a practice run for the next days statewide convention.
I'm an Iowa District 2 delegate and I witnessed all of this. Our chairman's behavior that night was poor, and frankly surprising; he had been fair and unbiased at our original district convention on 4/21/12.
He made several comments on Friday night, while speaking as the chairman, that were out of line for the chairman of the convention. His remarks (related to voting criteria for national delegates) were legitimate for a delegate to express to other delegates, but they were inappropriate for the chairman to state while speaking as the chair. He abused his position.
When a motion was made to remove the chairman, most of the delegates, including many Paul backers, did not support the motion. This is because we thought any damage possible had already been done, and the only order of business left was selecting our presidential electors. The 3 other districts had already adjourned, we had been there 4 hours, it was almost midnight, and many of us had to drive home that night before the state convention. I got home about 1:30 and got on the road back to the state convention at 6:30.
At that point in the evening, with only presidential electors remaining, many of us did not think it was prudent to hold a new election for chairman. I did not personally speak to the delegate who made the motion to dismiss the chairman, so I do not know what specifically made them withdraw their motion.
However, even after this incident and after a motion had been seriously considered to remove him, the chairman again overstepped his bounds as chairman and ignored his duty as chair to remain unbiased; thus unfairly and improperly influencing the remaining votes. If we had realized he would do this, we would have stuck it out as long as it took to elect a new and principled chairperson. But we gave the chair the benefit of the doubt. I am disappointed that we will be unable to do that in the future; as Jeff pointed out, this is not the kind of situation that inspires young people (or anyone) to want to have anything to do with this party.
I want to say that Jeff Shipley showed great character that evening. He handled an unfortunate situation and personal insult with aplomb, which is no less than we would have expected from a person with Jeff's patience and integrity. We are proud to stand behind him, and proud to have him in Iowa's 2nd congressional district. It is unfortunate and our loss that we did not elect him as a national alternate.
I hope the party will realize a more hard-working, passionate, conservative individual could not have been found to serve on the State Central Committee than Jeff Shipley. Jeff's previous accomplishments are impressive, and he will go on to do great things for this party. And he will undoubtedly accomplish his goal of bringing young people into the party.
and up at 630am and out again?
That is how we win, IN A NUTSHELL!
Good job patriot.
"OH NO! He has a SON?" Neoconservatives and Liberals EVERYWHERE!
Rand Paul 2016
Thanks! Nothing makes me happier than to be called a patriot.
It was a long weekend and an even longer process from caucus night to state convention, but it was worth it. I wish everyone could have experienced the euphoria we felt that day... still can't wipe the grin off my face. This energy is going to carry on for a long time and pull in many more victories for liberty and the future of our country.
. . .and did the right thing.
You moved on. . .kept your positive attitude. . .kept smiling. . .Ron Paul should be proud of all of you. I am. :)
been so kind, especially in light of broken feet, fingers, bruised hips etc, etc... Not acceptable.
Another term for preventive war is aggressive war- starting wars because someday somebody might do something to us. That is not part of the American tradition.
I'm confused because I thought the Iowa State Chairman was a Ron Pauler himself! In fact I believe he was the head of Ron Paul's campaign in Iowa.
If I recall correctly, the new Ron Pauler chair does not take office until a future date (January?).
What do you think? http://consequeries.com/
AJ Spiker is his name and he's alot younger than this guy!
This was the Reconvening of the District 2 convention which was the night before where each of our 4 districts elected 3 delegates and 3 alternates. Jeff Shipley, who was already elected to the State Central Committee, ran and was elected as an alternate. Walter Conlin is the name our honorable District Chairman:)
I don't think Jeff was elected as an alternate. I think he lost by 2 votes. I'd like to be proved wrong if you have other information! I voted for him.
missed it by one vote. See how important it is for everyone to go? We had a very important vote won by one vote in our county. Every. Body. Counts. I'm especially grateful to our alternates who showed!
It was a stroke of good luck for the chairman that he didn't push me like that...
I don't care what his age, there's no excuse for such behavior.
He was "fair game" after that kind of performance.
He would be apologizing to me after he pick his teeth up off the floor.
Chairman, don't forget your meds next time you go to a convention, OK.
You Neocon stooge!!
choke on your Koch? (pronounced Coke) :)

And, I'll be pissed off middle aged dude has assets too. And then admitted he was wrong.
Then they played kiss and makeup. Should have kicked the chairman off.
That's the chairman who said he didn't anticipate nominating Ron Paul at the convention. They should have removed him when they had the chance.
RON PAUL 2012 * Restore America * Bring The Troops Home
lulz the old establishment croneys are loosin it.
just another example of how they really feel about the philosophy of non intervention and liberty. "Take a hike" - "get out of here" ...whatever.
The old codger had better thank his lucky stars the other guy may have turned around to defend himself and set him flying back to the Bush years.
One confident & hopeful; one stressed, pissed and afraid.
"Let us stand shoulder to shoulder, united against Barack Obama. Thank You."
I am aquainted with Jeff Shipley. I've been around him several times and this last line of his speech that I quoted, has always been the intention he personifies. These 2 men may have different ideas on which candidate can get that done, but those same words *should* have come from either of them.
Jeff is an asset, not a threat, to the Republican party.
It didn't look like much of a push to me.. not even mosh pit worthy.. but yeah, rude and inappropriate, but I wouldn't call it an assault. when the gingrich guys stepped on the Paul supporters bare toes repeatedly, that seemed more like assault.
708.1 Assault defined.
An assault as defined in this section is a general intent crime. A person commits an assault when, without justification, the person does any of the following:
1. Any act which is intended to cause pain or injury to, or which is intended to result in physical contact which will be insulting or offensive to another, coupled with the apparent ability to execute the act.
2. Any act which is intended to place another in fear of immediate physical contact which will be painful, injurious, insulting, or offensive, coupled with the apparent ability to execute the act.
708.2 Penalties for assault.
6. Any other assault, except as otherwise provided, is a simple misdemeanor.
"or which is intended to result in physical contact which will be insulting or offensive to another"
If some kid says don't touch me, and in defiance another kid barely touches the other on the arm with the tip of their finger for a split second saying "touch" .. that is assault?
In my opinion, that law is just silly. Since the degree of physical contact is not defined.. but I'll concede, that I guess the chairman did an 'assault' by Iowa's standard.
We actually won the straw poll (152 votes unaccounted for), we actually won the popular vote (3 precincts went missing - college areas). We actually won the delegates! We had it all along!
And that is the real story from almost every state. Those delegates belong to Ron Paul.
He did seem a little apologetic but there is no excuse for physical violence.

and the man apologized.
That's how you do it in a republic.
No need to call the po-po unless someone is out of control.
not recorded for all the world to see? Would he not use any means in secret?
