Prepare for ambush at tonight's debate
Submitted by valleyforge on Thu, 01/10/2008 - 13:27
Realclearpolitics blog expects Dr. Paul to be asked one or more questions on the TNR article and the past newsletters at tonight's SC debate. I believe how he responds will be critical to the campaign's viability.
For the national audience, he must not only plausibly deny writing the articles and apologize for the lapse in oversight, but strongly denounce racism and point to a strong record of supporting diversity in past writings and actions, and in proposed policies. Anything less will leave lingering questions with the audience and he won't shake the smear.
So what specific writings, deeds, or policies should Dr. Paul point to that will rebut this smear? Keep in mind he'll have maybe 60 seconds to make his case.

He'll do just fine
I'm praying for him... And I don't pray to often.

Average American: "What Is Collectivism?"
Ron should NOT use challenging terms like "collectivism" if he addresses this in the debate. We know what it means, but he must vastly simplify why he is so EMOTIONALLY against racism, not just intellectually. Voters run on a simple fuel... emotion.

I suggest he read what Wendy
I suggest he read what was suggested at http://www.wendymcelroy.com/news.php and just lay it all out on the line, name the person who wrote that crap, who funded it, etc. No time to be protecting people, otherwise people will jump ship from this campaign. He needs to show some real leadership if this line of questioning is asked, which I hope. No better way to address the issue than on national TV, because all the other media outlets will pick up on how he responds. Time to live up to one of his principles, personal responsibility. I am not the only one who has been saying this either, it is all over blogosphere to take a similar approach.
There's a problem with the title of your post
IF Ron Paul is prepared for this attack, it's not quite an ambush now is it?
It's not really a surprise that they are going to fire some shots at Paul tonight, but I think that tonight Paul may just pull out one hell of a speach or he is done for.
this is so pathetic....
here we are, falling into national socialism and fascism, our country on the brink of collapse because of the scandolous monetary system, and our federal government has been hijacked by a bunch of neoconservatives (troskyite communists or marxist-leninists), and if they win out over us we will be subjected to the will of an oligarchical elite......how long before China demands its repayment from the American people? how long before we can no longer defend ourselves because we have NOTHING but a bunch of worthless paper? and the media, absolute betrayers of the American people, decide to keep our eyes off whats important by focusing on some trivial made up bullshit to try to discount the ONE person who can save us from oblivion?!?!
the treachery never ends....i hope we can hold some of these people accountable after the horrendous suffering that will be brought down upon us, that is if western civilization can ever recover from the fall of the American empire and laissez-faire ideals into interventionism and totalitarianism
"Truth is treason in the empire of lies." - Ron Paul
Just one of the reasons he shouldn't do the debate
The notion that Ron Paul is a racist is far kookier that any of the ideas that any of his supporters support. He is guilty of a lapse of judgment, at worst. Not only has he disavowed the content that was attached to his name, he has publicly assumed the "moral responsibility" for the content, and apologized. What more can be asked? If asked about the TNR report, does anyone sincerely believe they will give him enough time to answer?
If anyone has heard Dr. Paul speak, not just on the campaign trail, but on the floor of Congress for 20 odd years, there is simply no justification for a belief that he is a racist. (If he were, I would not support him.)
Read the man's words:
A nation that once prided itself on a sense of rugged individualism has become uncomfortably obsessed with racial group identities.
The collectivist mindset is at the heart of racism.
Government as an institution is particularly ill-suited to combat bigotry. Bigotry at its essence is a problem of the heart, and we cannot change people's hearts by passing more laws and regulations.
It is the federal government that most divides us by race, class, religion, and gender. Through its taxes, restrictive regulations, corporate subsidies, racial set-asides, and welfare programs, government plays far too large a role in determining who succeeds and who fails. Government "benevolence" crowds out genuine goodwill by institutionalizing group thinking, thus making each group suspicious that others are receiving more of the government loot. This leads to resentment and hostility among us.
Racism is simply an ugly form of collectivism, the mindset that views humans strictly as members of groups rather than as individuals. Racists believe that all individuals who share superficial physical characteristics are alike: as collectivists, racists think only in terms of groups. By encouraging Americans to adopt a group mentality, the advocates of so-called "diversity" actually perpetuate racism.
The true antidote to racism is liberty. Liberty means having a limited, constitutional government devoted to the protection of individual rights rather than group claims. Liberty means free-market capitalism, which rewards individual achievement and competence - not skin color, gender, or ethnicity.
In a free society, every citizen gains a sense of himself as an individual, rather than developing a group or victim mentality. This leads to a sense of individual responsibility and personal pride, making skin color irrelevant. Racism will endure until we stop thinking in terms of groups and begin thinking in terms of individual liberty.
Are these the words of a racist?

He should also point out
He should also point out that guy (Kerchick?) admitted to making stuff up about RP saying nonsense about MLK being a pedophile.
I agree
we will hear something tonight. I can just see Mccain saying "hey ron, read any good newsletters lately?" I think that most people are just blowing these off, but I think that they are a major problem and will kill the campaign.
I love ron paul!
