Obama leads Romney 53 percent to 40 percent among likely voters, even as the public gives him low marks on handling the economy and the deficit, and six in 10 say the nation is headed down the wrong track, according to the poll conducted June 15- 18.

So...you want to cherry pick
So...you want to cherry pick that ONE poll while ignoring the other TWO pols released today showing Romney with a lead?

Big deal. Obamney 2012!, an illusion of choice brought to you by the big banks and multinational corporations.
My comment at the article:
There is no need to be satisfied with a choice of the lesser of two evils.
The nomination of the Republican Party may have been settled in the minds of the general public at the instigation of the RNC and the controlled media but in the hearts and minds of the 2286 delegates that will vote for the nominee in Tampa in August 2012 the issue is far from settled.
There will be another name in contention at the National Convention. That name is Dr. Ronald Ernest Paul. What Dr. Paul has been warning Americans about for the past 41 years, of which over 36 years have been in the public eye, is now actually happening.
He has introduced legislation in Congress over this period to correct course and avoid the catastrophe but he has been ignored. No longer. He is being heard by increasing millions of Americans with his message to Restore the Republic.
He will put an end to the counterfeiting of the Federal Reserve System, end the un-Constitutional wars and the empire building, bring the troops home to defend the United States, restore the Bill of Rights and individual liberties, take an axe to the regulatory forest of the Federal bureaucracy, introduce sound money and truly free markets, preserve Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid for those who are dependent upon them while introducing transition programmes for those who wish to opt out and return power to the States and the People according to the supreme Law of the nation, the Constitution for the united States of America.
This is the most radical revolution of ideas in American history that will sweep away the encroachment of State power that has slowly strangled the American idea over the past one hundred years.
This is a return to founding principles applied in a modern context that has been thought through carefully be one of the most brilliant men alive in America today, the most honest and consistently principled statesman of this or any other generation, the only man under God qualified to lead the nation and the world in these perilous times, the 45th. President of the United States, Dr. Ronald Ernest Paul.

Well written article reply!
I noticed one typo in the last paragraph if you can still edit it. Change "be" to "by."

Thanks for the edit.
Unfortunately as you thought might happen the edit function disappears when a reply is posted.

The problem is, that 40% of
The problem is, that 40% of this country would vote for Obama if he came out as a gay communist and raised taxes 20%. 40% of this country would vote against Obama if he balanced the budget, ended the income tax, and personally saved them from drowning.

Think of all the people who
Think of all the people who voted for Romney not because they agreed with him but because they were told he was the one most likely to be able to beat Obama. How are they feeling now?
And that's without Gary
And that's without Gary Johnson in the poll. He tends to take about 3-4 points from Romney and 1-2 from Obama right now, enough to really throw a couple of states to Obama. His effect could be big enough that he could allow Obama to win every state. Probably not, but if he were to increase his numbers to 15%, I don't know how Romney could win anything at all.
Of course, a lot of people saying they will vote for Obama will do a last minute exodus to someone else. And a lot of people are doing the brave "yes, I WILL vote for Obama again" face, but in private will likely end up saying "aw screw it", so I wouldn't take this poll as anything too serious. Every other poll has them very close and some have Romney up.
Still, this was ALWAYS the problem. People who know Romney don't really like him that much. And we got to know Romney in 2008 and decided we just don't care for him. He was about to have his butt handed to him by Huckabee, as the more the race went on, the more people liked Huckabee's pleasant, real, folksiness, and diskliked Romney's "spoiled rich junior" attitude.

Yeah, looking good. I was hoping he'd do better in CO though. Like 10% at least, but the night is still young.
I am really curious how Ron Paul was polling this time of year in 1988, but i don't think he was in any polls, at least, none that I can find. It might be a good indicator of what might happen. Many say that 3rd parties poll well until people see in the last minute that they can't win and then vote for someone else. I wish the media would stop polling in the weeks before the election, take way the desire to vote strategically.

I think elections will never bring us back to freedom.
First of all, those working behind the scene only let us choose from the candidates they finance. Interlopers like Ron Paul are effectively excluded.
Those who value freedom highly just have their energies drained when they enter the political arena. Look at what happened to us. While I don't see the Occupy movement as freedom loving, look at what happened to them when they gave up their occupation protests, and instead tried to accomplish their goals in the election process in Wisconsin. Ineffective, ineffective, ineffective.
Unfortunately the majority are not with us. They may mouth the word freedom and wave their flags, but they willingly accept subjugation, not freedom. Feeding at the government trough is worth enduring tyranny for so many of our fellow citizens.
When government can't be changed by voting, we are faced with the choice of accepting our slavery or attempting to shut down government by other means. In history such efforts take the form of peaceful protests, riots, sabotage, and eventually violent revolt. At this point, I doubt that the freedom movement could get out 20,000 people for a peaceful protest; we simply don't have the numbers yet, and won't until the level of pain and suffering from the present system of plunder and control finally crosses the threshold where enough of us perceive revolting will bring them less pain than going along to get along. Until then it is just, "bend over and grab your ankles".
Liberty isn't given to us; it is taken by us, and if not, we will not have it.
Most people would rather be
Most people would rather be wards of the state, with "free" housing, food, and medical care, than be free. Of course slaves got "free" housing, food, and medical care, and so do prisoners. That is why democracy does not deliver freedom.

Rasmussen had Romney up three among likely voters yesterday. This poll is probably surveying more Democrats and Independents, but it seems to mirror the correct demographics.
