Why Religion and Morality I think Ron Paul knew this as well.

A interesting website I found and would like to share.
I believe Ron Paul knew this as well.

Why Religion and Morality

In 1776, the year Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence, John Adams wrote to his cousin, “It is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand.” There it is again. Why did the Founding Fathers keep pointing back to these fundamental building blocks? Adams himself answered that question in 1798, while serving as president: “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

There is the answer! They kept referring to religion and morality because, as Adams said, our Constitution was made only for moral and religious people! Now the question is, why? Why was the Constitution written only for moral and religious people? Why was it inadequate to the government of any other?

Alexis de Tocqueville’s 19th-century observations on the American republic answer this critical question. After touring America for two years in the early 1830s, he returned home to France and wrote his political classic, Democracy in America. Like the Founding Fathers, Tocqueville acknowledged that religion and morality were indispensable to the maintenance of the American republic. Why indispensable? He said that while the constitutional law of liberty allowed Americans complete freedom to do as they pleased, religion prevented them from doing that which was immoral and unjust. In short, Tocqueville surmised, liberty could not be governed apart from religious faith, lest there be anarchy.

Without the moral restrictions of a higher spiritual law, the liberty afforded Americans in the Constitution would be abused. George Washington knew that! So did the rest of the Founding Fathers. That’s why they kept harping on religion and morality. They did not want to see the United States of America self-destruct.

The success of our Constitution does not depend on which political party we belong to—it depends on how biblically spiritual we are!

-Ron Paul

My faith is a deeply private issue to me, and I don’t speak on it in great detail during my speeches because I want to avoid any appearance of exploiting it for political gain. Let me be very clear here: I have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, and I endeavor every day to follow Him in all I do and in every position I advocate.

It is God Who gave us life. As He is free, so are those He created in His image. Our rights to life and liberty are inalienable.

also a interesting part of a Ron Paul news letter.

The ultimate goal of the anti-religious elites is to transform America into a completely secular nation, a nation that is legally and culturally biased against Christianity. ~ Ron Paul

The notion of a rigid separation between church and state has no basis in either the text of the Constitution or the writings of our Founding Fathers. On the contrary, our Founders' political views were strongly informed by their religious beliefs. Certainly the drafters of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, both replete with references to God, would be aghast at the federal government's hostility to religion. The establishment clause of the First Amendment was simply intended to forbid the creation of an official state church like the Church of England, not to drive religion out of public life.

The Founding Fathers envisioned a robustly Christian yet religiously tolerant America, with churches serving as vital institutions that would eclipse the state in importance. Throughout our nation's history, churches have done what no government can ever do, namely teach morality and civility. Moral and civil individuals are largely governed by their own sense of right and wrong, and hence have little need for external government. This is the real reason the collectivist Left hates religion: Churches as institutions compete with the state for the people's allegiance, and many devout people put their faith in God before their faith in the state. Knowing this, the secularists wage an ongoing war against religion, chipping away bit by bit at our nation's Christian heritage. Christmas itself may soon be a casualty of that war.

Creation Myth

I am still trying to figure out if you think it is right to teach the atheist creation myth in schools the myth of goo to you evolution ... because it seems the atheists are forcing their personal creation myth on my diverse country by any means possible

Ya I remember having that bs

Ya I remember having that bs shoved down my throat at school then when you mention anything about God the teachers just flip out because that's not acceptable to mention in school but evolution is perfectly fine which is pure load of total bs.

Still too general.

There are fundamentalists in our movement, 100% committed, right now. They have been with us from the start. My own brother is one of them. Not all fundamentalists want to impose themselves on everyone. As an agnostic, I respect the beliefs of others, despite holding strong opinions on the validity of those beliefs. I feel that it's important to condemn bad actions rather than groups generally associated with those bad actions. I absolutely condemn any attempt to impose religion or lack thereof on anyone, but it's not fair to say that just because somebody believes the earth is 6000 years old and attends bible studies or revivals, they are assumed to be fascists on social policy. I know there are plenty of fundamentalists who understand that government is a lousy answer to just about everything, and would prefer to convince or lead by example to spread their faith.

I don't feel it's too general to express concern

about fundamentalists in the Liberty Movement. It is a valid concern and some of the comments in this thread confirm my fear. We are talking about a group of people that are CONVINCED individuals that don't believe in their creation myth are going to burn in HELL. This is the height of arrogance and becomes extremely dangerous when fundamentalists decide they need to exert control over the government and military to reach their goal of converting the masses and saving their fictitious "Christian" nation. Some forcefully externalize their insecurity and seek to validate their myth by "saving" others by any means possible. The Constitution will not get in the way. This type of behavior is not compatible with Liberty in a diverse country. It is a powder-keg waiting to blow. History is full of warnings about this very situation.

saying someone will burn in hell is not the same as using

force to convert someone to your way of thinking. why don't you go ahead and say what you really want to say??__"kill all these filthy fundamentalists--they'll never believe the way i want them to!!"--now that is the height of arrogance if you ask me!

Christians should not be warmongers! http://www.lewrockwell.com/vance/vance87.html

Seriously

You fear this .. This has got to be the funniest fear i have heard of

Yeah, it revealed that we

Yeah, it revealed that we have some Santorum lites kicking around.

freetoroam how do you explain siding with carol exactly? this is almost the samething she just said.

that is proof there that a chunk of the founding fathers said they are christian and need religious morals to stand. if they are christian and saying it needs religious morals to stand what does that mean.

or are you just a hypocrite? we are tolerant of other religions we accept them we love them and treat them as human beings what is your problem.

religion such as christian made Liberty, Freedom possible.

Jesus Christ died for us becaue he loves us

And even now, when I mess up, I know that Jesus Christ already loves me, and in fact, already died for me.

Worth listening to whether you believe or not.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

and that is part of the

specific creation myth YOU have chosen to believe. There are many to choose from. Some don't include the son of God dying for you and that's OK.

Why do you feel it necessary to point that out?

... You seem to be intent on stirring up dissention.

A Constitutional, Christian conservative who voted for Ron and stands with Rand

Really? I suggest you read BigBoss's posts

that let all the Catholic Ron Paul supporters know they are NOT real Christians. It's the Christian fundamentalists that try to dominate the Liberty Movement and these forums, that create dissension and repulse individuals trying to have an intelligent conversation on a variety of subjects. In their world, everything revolves around the creation myth they have chosen to believe. The Constitution is not their focus. Having to wade through sermons in every other thread is frustrating and counterproductive to forming a diverse Liberty Movement.

what I pointed you tool i s

what I pointed out you tool is that Catholics and Christians are not the exact same thing but are part of christianities tree we don't have a pope either or priest just preachers we don't ask for forgiveness from a pope or priests or
mary we talk to just God himself.

I encourage members to read BigBoss's posts

concerning Catholics and see for themselves if BigBoss is being honest in the post above.

I've thought this for a while

Liberty is not a panacea. It will not create a utopian environment of peace and prosperity by itself. The mistake the socialist makes is thinking that the state can resolve the shortcomings of liberty.

Liberty stands on the legs of honesty, respect and love, which are also the core tenants of most religions. Remove these, and liberty will corrode over time.

My beliefs follow similar to Paine's. A deficit of morality results in the creation of the state, and then the state can begin to contribute to this immorality in a never ending vicious cycle. The point is the state is rarely the correct medicine for the moral sickness. It is up to families, friends, churches, communities, and ultimately individuals to fix these problems.

For individuals to fix moral problems, they must have a motivation to change. Liberty, or natural law, can provide some but not all of this. There must be something beyond the natural state of things that stimulates people to question their choices, otherwise people will immediately assume that the direct result of an action is the absolute or long term consequence.

Others will disagree, but I see liberty as a subset of moral law.

As does Jesus

the first person historically to point out that all men are created equal as all men are children of God and God does not love one more than another.

This is incorrect. You don't know JESUS said that.

The bible was NOT WRITTEN BY JESUS. So stop pretending. The concepts you stated were discussed LONG before Jesus. It is a fundamentalist fantasy that is in direct opposition to world history.

Are you ignorant

of course these were started before Jesus, God created Adam and Eve and don't you think they told the story of God and passed it down for generations. So I am trying to figure out what you believe, that eveything came from nothing? .. everything was always here .. or just don't have a freakin clue

All the nice pretty

All the nice pretty scripture, but of course all of the evil ugly ones are omitted. This is the only way the religion can be made to look peaceful and kind. Look deeper. That book is full of hatred. If that book were taken literally word for word and followed to a t this world would be an even messier place than it is today.

there are many of *us* Christians who believe that the Old . . .

Testament was definitely 'messed with', and you are correct, there are 'evil ugly ones'--

Jesus' life was not 'nice pretty'--

and for some reason by all academic standards, the four gospels survived reasonably intact--

Jesus Christ goes beyond the written word, however--

I know I won't convince you, but I want you to understand that many of *us* Christians have already taken this into consideration--

and yes religions have been exploited for evil--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Thank you for the

Thank you for the level-headed response.

Jesus Christ dying for me is

Jesus Christ dying for me is hardly hatred.

You for instance I doubt would die for me, because you simply do not care. That wasn't Jesus Christ, God and the only begotton Son of God.

He knew we were sinners, and died in our place, to save us and give us everlasting life. He died for us with us still being enemies of God, not friends.
Romans 5:
6For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. 11And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

You know I don't care because

You know I don't care because you and I have such a long history and you know me so well personally? Look, I can quote scripture too!
Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests

Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)

Kill Witches

You should not let a sorceress live. (Exodus 22:17 NAB)

Kill Homosexuals
"If a man lies with a male as with a women, both of them shall be put to death for their abominable deed; they have forfeited their lives." (Leviticus 20:13 NAB)

Kill Fortunetellers

A man or a woman who acts as a medium or fortuneteller shall be put to death by stoning; they have no one but themselves to blame for their death. (Leviticus 20:27 NAB)

Death for Hitting Dad

Whoever strikes his father or mother shall be put to death. (Exodus 21:15 NAB)

Death for Cursing Parents

1) If one curses his father or mother, his lamp will go out at the coming of darkness. (Proverbs 20:20 NAB)

2) All who curse their father or mother must be put to death. They are guilty of a capital offense. (Leviticus 20:9 NLT)

Death for Adultery

If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the man and the woman must be put to death. (Leviticus 20:10 NLT)

Death for Fornication

A priest's daughter who loses her honor by committing fornication and thereby dishonors her father also, shall be burned to death. (Leviticus 21:9 NAB)

Death to Followers of Other Religions

Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)

Kill Nonbelievers

They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)

Kill False Prophets

If a man still prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall say to him, "You shall not live, because you have spoken a lie in the name of the Lord." When he prophesies, his parents, father and mother, shall thrust him through. (Zechariah 13:3 NAB)

Kill the Entire Town if One Person Worships Another God

Suppose you hear in one of the towns the LORD your God is giving you that some worthless rabble among you have led their fellow citizens astray by encouraging them to worship foreign gods. In such cases, you must examine the facts carefully. If you find it is true and can prove that such a detestable act has occurred among you, you must attack that town and completely destroy all its inhabitants, as well as all the livestock. Then you must pile all the plunder in the middle of the street and burn it. Put the entire town to the torch as a burnt offering to the LORD your God. That town must remain a ruin forever; it may never be rebuilt. Keep none of the plunder that has been set apart for destruction. Then the LORD will turn from his fierce anger and be merciful to you. He will have compassion on you and make you a great nation, just as he solemnly promised your ancestors. "The LORD your God will be merciful only if you obey him and keep all the commands I am giving you today, doing what is pleasing to him." (Deuteronomy 13:13-19 NLT)

Kill Women Who Are Not Virgins On Their Wedding Night

But if this charge is true (that she wasn't a virgin on her wedding night), and evidence of the girls virginity is not found, they shall bring the girl to the entrance of her fathers house and there her townsman shall stone her to death, because she committed a crime against Israel by her unchasteness in her father's house. Thus shall you purge the evil from your midst. (Deuteronomy 22:20-21 NAB)

Kill Followers of Other Religions.

1) If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)

2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT)

Once again, you choose to

believe this. It's a creation myth that comes with a book written by several authors. Your interpretation is YOURS. I find it extreme and my heart tells me Carol is a lot closer to the truth.

And that, my friend, still

And that, my friend, still gives me hope, because when I mess up even now, I know that Jesus Christ already loves me, and in fact, already died for me.

For me.

Christ Jesus is my beloved friend

and Guardian Angel, and very much a part of my daily existence. I also honor other belief systems that can lead to becoming a spiritual person.

Try reading the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Sanskrit scripture. Much of what is said agrees with what Jesus said. There is truth to be found in many beautiful scriptures. I honor people for who they are and how they behave. There are spiritual people everywhere on Earth. The path they took in becoming spiritual should not concern us, lest we become prejudiced and judge the book by its cover rather than for what is written within.

Jesus said "Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will open".

If you seek God you will find God. If you seek the things of the world, you will find the things of the world.

I honor Ron Paul for being a spiritual person and do not question the journey or path that led him to become a spiritual person.

You acknowledge Jesus but

You acknowledge Jesus but follow strangers,by this you are not of his sheep.

John 10 : 5 And they will not follow a stranger, but they flee from him, for they know not the voice of strangers.

14 I am the good shepherd, and know mine, and am known of mine.

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

28 And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any pluck them out of my hand.

26 But ye believe not, for ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.

It is not to late for you or anyone reading this.Jesus is the Lord, the Shepherd, the Son of God,the word of God,the Light of Life.No one goes to the Father but through him.

Matthew 7 : 13 Enter in at the strait gate; for it is the wide gate, and broad way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat;14 Because the gate is strait, and the way narrow that leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Remember Noah and remember Lot...
Luke 17 : 30 After these examples shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

Luke 18 : 8 ...but when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Beware of false prophets and false teachers who preach the doctrines of men.Seek the Lord, follow his words.Strive for your salvation in fear.
