This is one of three things I can see as fundamental winning issues.
The second is war, Iraq mostly but now its looking like Iran is an issue too. But this is fundamentally mixed with the economic argument. The single best argument against war is that as a matter of fact, not opinion we absolutely cannot afford it.
And third, just keep in mind that Ron is a doctor. This country respects doctors a whole lot more than lawyers.

But..
Most people are not suffering economically. So I'm not sure that would work. I look around, me, my friends, my family. Everybody is making money. One thing they can feel though is taxes and gas prices. I think Paul should concentrate a lot more on that. It seems more like an afterthought right now. Economic statistics and predictions are too abstract for most people to care about. They care about what they're feeling right now.

These are things people relate to.
I agree on the taxes statement but RP needs to be more specific on how he will eliminate taxes besides saying cut spending. He needs to show exactly where and how much will get cut.
The economy and spending are the true main campaign themes. Listen to Paul on the war, on healthcare, on immigration, on taxes, on almost anything and the underlying theme is economics.
The other candidates cannot touch him on this.

First Things First
Dr. Paul has mentioned that things will have to happen gradually. You're right that he will have to be more specific. As I see it, we will not be able to do away with the Income tax until, at the very least, the foreign debt is paid. Social Security and Medicare will have to be strictly means-tested; only those who can't live without it will get it and today's workers must be able to opt out. I would like to see an Amendment to the Constitution requiring a balanced budget fixed at some low percentage of GDP outside of times of declared war. Only when we firmly tie the hands of Congress to spend, can we even seriously consider ridding ourselves of the evil that is the IRS.
I would also recommend we all send e-mails to Glenn Beck showing our appreciation for his very fair interview of Dr. Paul and his latest mention of him in this most recent interview with David Walker. He did this despite the fact that some overzealous supporters have tried to make his life HELL! Let's let him know that we aren't all jerks, eh? With more people like Beck talking about the same things Dr. Paul has been talking about for decades, fewer people will find him "kooky" and will realize that he offers the only sensible solutions to the economic disaster we're facing. The interventionist policies of EVERY administration and Congress since FDR have created this mess and will produce a stagflationary Depression unparalleled in history. Dr. Paul is this country's only hope of leaving our children a better nation than we inherited.

They call Dr. Paul a "kook" for his explanations of how monetary mischief has ruined our economy and the drastic remedies needed to keep our economy alive (not to mention our freedom). David Walker has been on a crusade for years to wake up America to this looming financial crisis. Perhaps they will call him a kook too, but the economy is already in a recession and will likely be announced by Super Tuesday or shortly thereafter. This may not be "The Big One" but it sure isn't going to be any fun. The Republican cookie cutters insist that they can simply "cut pork," but pork spending amounts to not much more than 1% of the Federal budget. Sorry. That's like putting a bandaid on an open artery. The Democrats are talking about socializing medicine to control costs, but the bulk of the $53 trillion bill is medicare/medicaid and it doesn't cover anywhere near what they're promising in universal health care.
All of them ignore the simple fact that foreign creditors are losing faith in the American workers' ability to pay the debts our government has heaped on our backs and are on the verge of divesting US paper assets. I see no end to this that doesn't involve massive inflation and economic hardship unparalleled in history. Without Dr. Paul, Washington will keep trying to print and legislate its way out of the mess it created and throw this country into a long stagflationary depression. How could any other issue trump this? It's time to stop exposing the demons in the shadows and start enlightening our neighbors to the devil in the fiscal details. This isn't a partisan issue. It's a matter of life and death for our republic and everything hinges on this election. We need the zeal, dedication, and patience of evangelists...heck, we already have the prophet!

....can be quoted from the Honorable David Walker's statements at the January Economics Forecast Forum. He says everything Dr. Paul says and how can the call the Comptroller General of the United States nuts.
"The federal government is on a "burning platform" and the status quo way of doing business is unacceptable."
"Tough choices are required." He goes on to say if these tough choices are not made..."to balance the budget in 2040 would require reducing federal spending by 60% or doubling income tax."
The whole report is shocking to anyone and even page one where he makes a case for change is the platform of only one candidate....Dr. Paul. I sincerely wish in the debate...no matter which two irrelevant questions they ask him...he would answer with the Comptroller General of the US apparently agrees with me. I am perhaps the only person on this stage who listens to David Walker.

But we're fighting for delegates NOW! We have to keep on and stay focussed on the delegate count. I don't mean dumb it down. I mean take it from theory to everyday reality.
1. Country's bankruptcy hurts every American in the wallet/pocketbook. It means higher prices for things you buy everyday--gas, food, utilities. I don't have to tell the American people prices are going up. They see it. They feel it. Politicians in Washington may not understand it, but the people do.
2. Spending is out of control and it's all on borrowed money. Would you rack-up hundreds of thousands of dollars on credit cards and expect your children and grandchildren to pay? That's what Washington is doing.
3. You can't have higher spending without higher taxes. Do you want to be in Iraq for 100 years? Despite the human cost of lives shattered and lost, we can't afford it financially. At $15 million an hour? Where does it end? Bring the troops home to their families now.
4. You think $3.00 a gallon gas is high, wait until we bomb Iran. Or send troops in Pakistan. Both ideas are "on the table." That only makes the price of oil, and the price of gasoline, go higher. That hurts the poor and middle class the most.

The other GOP, who are all running for Bush's 3rd term, despite what Huckabee says, can't run against the economy. Plus, they don't understand how it works. Or they do understand and are tied into the MIC.
