1 Reason Ron Paul will Not Speak at Paulfest

Apparently the Paulfest has just announced a news speaker:

http://paulfestival.org/78-news-a-press/232-paul-festival-an...

If Ron Paul were to speak at PaulFest it would be to join Peter Schiff (also a speaker who has prematurely endorsed Gary Johnson) in endorsing Gary Johnson. Effectively this would be turning over his campaign to Gary Johnson. Turning over his political capital to Gary Johnson.

I do not, at this point, understand how either festival is different. I am very confused with this announcement. This all seems very strange to me. Am I alone? Is there no place where Dr. Paul can be recognized and honored at this critical stage in the game.

Are any *wins* in Tampa just wins for Gary Johnson?

Please Direct Me to a Festival that Truly Celebrates Freedom

Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. Martin Luther King Jr.

Hi Rick, You Pulled Up

...an oldie as "the world turns on the DP." That post of mine seems forever ago. However, I will go to your post above. I would like very much to respond as my thinking has progressed. The flags I saw right after that announcement was made...the confusion I felt then...the disappointment...has progressed. And I will direct you to the real freedom festival.

It is just my opinion; however, many long-timers on the DP have been through some real thought adjustments or thought solidification. We are not all in agreement.

Such is life on this experimental planet ; ) This could be a learning experience regardless of whether or not we all agree on the best next step. I have a feeling you would agree that there is an optimal approach to dialogue...a civil and honest manner of interacting. And, that always results in progression and learning for all involved.

Will respond later tonight. Thank you for the invitation!

Lol, You do know Peter Schiff

Lol, You do know Peter Schiff is Ron Paul's economics advisor for the official campaign right?

Yes, I Do Know Peter Schiff

...and like most of what he says. Did not like his premature endorsement and feel it was yet another disappointment for Dr. Paul.

I took my 401 out of Merrill Lynch after losing 3/4ths of it after stupidly letting some of it go into Blackrock. I put what was left in EuroPacific and lost 3/4ths of that. Did not see the red flag when the Jr. guy handling my money failed to return calls or answer questions. I didn't have enough to matter much, I guess. When I pulled the rest out, my guy at Euro Pacific said he was so sorry.

Fortunately one person I advised to go with EuroPacific put in one million and last I heard she is doing fine.

Just my experience...but it was pretty sour. So, yes, I do know Peter Schiff. I would imagine Dr. Paul's investments there are well looked after.

You're right. You can be damn

You're right. You can be damn sure GJ is going to use this as one hell of a campaign opportunity. There's nothing particularly wrong with that if the idea is to promote liberty and liberty candidates on the whole.

But if you call it 'paulfest', it sounds to me like honoring dr. Paul and what he has done during this campaign. Then inviting his direct competitor is a bad move. Better call it liberty-fest or something then.

Is it really a tragedy

That a liberty minded well known politician, who has endorsed the good Dr. when so many would not, is coming to Tampa to speak on behalf of liberty. Open your eyes people, we need to be inclusive to build broader support for the liberty platform. Otherwise what is the point?

What Is A Tragedy

...as well is that this particular liberty-minded candidate and good friend of Dr. Paul has supporters here who talk out of both sides of their mouth. They have used everything from Rand to Jesse bashing to "he doesn't have a chance" to undermine Ron Paul rather than just extol the virtues of *their* candidate.

I have followed reposts of negative articles about Ron Paul's chances on the internet by one of the GL supporters here.

Would I have...after the convention considered him? ...possibly. But not now.

fonta

It's all good if you are blind and stoooped

do you really know well this johnson? Have you looked at his position on important issues?

Why not Benjamin Netanyahu?

He and Gary Johnson agree on so many things...

Since Ron Paul campaign has been compromised and still is being sabotaged by the staff and it seems like no one is doing a thing about it, why don't we elect Benjamin Netanyahu as our next president, so we can skip the middleman Romney? How about that? Oh yeah, he is not a US citizen but that didn't stop us in the past...

paul fest

First of all im voting Ron Paul even if he doesn't get the nod I will wright his name in.how can their be a Paul fest with out Paul certainly not by bring in other who would try to take us away from the path that lead us here in the first place.you might as well call it gary fest and for the ones who are fleeing Ron Paul and this movement (revolution ) we are at a time where the pendulum is shifting in a way that we need to be strong and stand the ground we fought so hard for not giving the RNC one grain of ground back. they have lost the war and know it .now they are going with a scorched Earth policy because they cant stop us from taking back the gop unless they can concur and divide us.

it would be helpful for all of use to stay to finish the fight and archive some of are goals if not all I came late to this party so maybe I don't know as much as the rest of you but I will not forgo Ron for gary I will stand by his side till he can no longer carry the fight ,moving straight ahead remembering all he has taught an done for all of use and continue his mighty campaign for liberty. Paul fest was suppose to celebrate Ron's Paul hard won battles and are's to restore this country not to move on to some one new because we didn't get every thing we wanted and who is to say there isn't more we can achieve even stopping mitt after all we as a team are a mighty army for liberty an with out you we will be less then whole. more and more people are waking up faster than before even if they are not fully awake the can see the path Ron Paul has blazed an the light of his torch can be seen by the newly awake people to follow. this country has taken the wrong path because we fell asleep believing others would be their to keep us on track, it is time to correct are course before it to late to stop are fall . so I ask all of you to keep up the fight to bring back are freedoms that were given an stolen away, let every one know the constitution is more than a piece of paper but are ours true beliefs we the people know what best for use not some elected person who will tell us what we want to hear then sell us out for the gold but one who will stand up for all our right not just for some or ones they like but for all of them and we are individuals not a group of people were one sizes fits all
thank you all for reading my comment didnt exspect it would be so long but needed to vent thanks again

Why is Jesse Benton still in

Why is Jesse Benton still in charge of the Ron Paul campaign? Has no one learned anything during the last month or two? This thing is getting to be one giant cluster@#%&. Personally, I have always been of the opinion that the name of this event should have been Liberty-Fest! We are all for supporting Dr. Paul. We only want what is best for our country. But there has been more than enough information regarding Jesse Benton, that he should have been fired long before now. And now we find out that he is in charge of this festival. And some people wonder what is going on and why this isn't working. If Ron Paul cannot see this and cannot fix this problem then maybe he can not do the job that we have all been working for! At this point, if he did win, it looks like Jesse Benton would be the WH chief of staff. I've seen and heard enough.

A speaker who is running for POTUS against Ron Paul?

Bad, bad, bad idea.

Un-invite him or change the name of the shindig.

agreed

not that i dislike johnson or anything like that, its just that we need to stay focused on the prize, RON PAUL. how could you expect Ron to be taken seriously if he is seen with a different party's candidate. Ill say this again, I like Gary, but this is the RNC not LNC or DNC or CNC GNC etcetc. This even should have been about RON PAUL and nobody else. Especially if they have endorsed anyone but Paul, im sorry, but THEY SHOULD NOT BE AT PAUL FEST. I dont like anything Benton has done, however coming from a republican for RP aspect, it will not reflect well on him with NON RP delegates and the arguement could be made that at least rMoney isnt having other candidates from OUTSIDE the party, this is how the old guard status quo neocon shmucks will paint our AMAZING leader/messenger of Liberty and Freedom, and then it wont even be a contest on 1st ballot.

From reading the posts here I

From reading the posts here I can unfortunately see why Libertarian's never get a significant amount of votes. Yeah there are a host of other reasons but from what I can see us libertarian's are perhaps just too darn idealistic. Look at how we all reacted to Rand Paul and now to somebody like Gary Johnson when these two would be magnitudes of improvement over Romney or Obama and most other politicians in congress. I think I picked out a few things I disagreed with on Gary Johnson back in one of the earlier GOP debates last year but overall I would feel comfortable voting for him. I don't think he will win mainly because of his presentation of his positions but personally I would like to see him in the White House over Obama or Romney. I think many of us are also no doubt going to feel let down by almost any other presidential candidate or congress person just because it will be very difficult to live up to the Ron Paul standard. This is also why it will be such a shame if Dr. Paul is not given the opportunity to become the president that we need so desperately in the country at this point in time.

Hmm

I don't know enough about the ex new mexico governor, but I agree that thats not really the point.

The problem lies in the timing of this. I don't see the sense in having other political parties' candidates speaking at our Republican Congressman and Presidential Candidates' big event just before the GOP Nominating Convention. Duh.

They might as well get Romney and Obama

to speak to. After all all three Obama Romney and Johnson are run by the same people. Meet the man who has handled GJ's entire political career.

Wow, I'm glad there are

Wow, I'm glad there are people out here at the DP where we use attacks against our allies just like the msm uses against our hero Ron Paul.

Why don't you guys call it GARYFEST?

That same argument could be

That same argument could be used against Ron Paul.

Yeah because the CFR has had a guy running all

of Dr Paul's campaigns just like their puppet Gary Johnson right? Oh now you'll tell me how the Fed's counterfeiting isn't so bad like you posted in another thread.

According to Open Secrets,

"According to Open Secrets, he has been paid $322, 577 in the 2012 election cycle, by Liberty PAC. His total income directly from the Ron Paul presidential campaign 2012 is, to date, $264,039.

Benton is married to Ron Paul's granddaughter Valerie Pyeatt.

Many Ron Paul supporters have become unhappy with Benton because of his suspected contacts with the Romney campaign and his overall handling of the Ron Paul campaign. Supporters are so frustrated that they are calling for Benton to be fired,

According to Who Is Jesse Benton, Benton is now owner of various consulting firms, including,C.I.C Solutions based in Wahington D.C., where he is president of the firm.

He is also owner of Performance Institute, where he is Director of Policy and External Affairs.

According to Who Is Jesse Benton, these firms have contracts with various candidates, some of whom have been endorsed by Rand Paul and Ron Paul.

Here's a take by Tom Woods on Benton. Woods is one of the most savvy communicators of libertarian ideas out there. He is the New York Times bestselling author of 11 books. A senior fellow of the Ludwig von Mises Institute, Woods holds a bachelor's degree in history from Harvard and his master's, M.Phil., and Ph.D. from Columbia University"

Another OPEN SECRET

You, Mr. Ashman, came here a few weeks ago pushing your pro-choice (among other things) candidate. You have extolled his virtues. You have pushed his speaking at the Paul Fest. You have said he and RonPaul are good friends and Gary asked for his blessing. You have said PaulFest is all about honoring Dr. Paul.

You say that you are for Ron Paul and IF NOT Gary. And yet part of your pushing your candidate includes coming out with everything you can think of to cause division in the Ron Paul base. Why...at this point...right before the convention do you find it necessary to knock Ron Paul and his campaign...cause division and create a very embarrassing situation for Dr. Paul?

You are not about Dr. Paul's legacy while you knock all of his decisions. I don't see your name on the End the Fed thread. You better trot on over there to promote your mixed message.

Talk all you want about the Ron Paul Campaign. I can only assume you represent the virtues of the GJ campaign. I am not impressed with the tactics of the GJ campaign if you are a reflection of it.

Well, people keep telling

Well, people keep telling everyone that Gary is too imperfect, too impure to be a freedom candidate like Ron Paul, so I point out a) how they're wrong and b) how Ron Paul isn't exactly pure himself.

I'd love to have the choice of multiple pure candidates or even ONE of them, but they don't exist. There are people who are more aligned and less aligned with your causes.

If your prime cause is anti-abortion, then you will be forced to vote for Mitt Romney or the Constitution Party candidate (even though they don't understand the Constitution very well).

I Would Like To Know What Event Paul Will Be At In Tampa?

Does it have an offical name - is it going to be open to all supporters or is it for delegates only?

No, It's Being Orchestrated

. . .by Jesse.

"Paul’s event will celebrate the candidate’s accomplishments in the cause of liberty and will set a tone of “professionalism and respect” for Paul’s delegates going into the Aug. 27-30 convention, Benton said." (http://runronpaul.com/campaign-trail/ron-paul-to-host-pre-go...)

Here's the way I see it

the "campaign" was already distancing itself from the grassroots for reasons pretty plain to me, we are boisterous and prone to fringy things.

I'm a perfect example of the above....I admit it but I didn't get into the Ron Paul thing so much as I was ordered to do so by our great brother and mentor Aaron Russo (R.I.P.) so RPR isn't a vacuum or magnet for me so much as a matter of adoption.

But check this out: as soon as the "Freedom Festival" people attacked our Paulfestival people in such an open and nasty way, suddenly for the campaign, and I don't care who's running it, I'd have made the same decision, it was a matter of "who's daddy's favourite child" and it would have put the camn dampaign right smack in the middle of a grassroots squabble. And that would be a strategic BLUNDER right at our crucial moment of going into RNC and potentially compromising all the hard work our delegates and all our grassroots people trying to get cred at the PC and local levels.

In other words, this pooch kinda got scewed but in typical movement fashion, we'll just morph Paulfest into a huge warm-up party for Ron Paul's shin-dig and we all will build positive energy into a great REPUBLICAN PARTY and take care of one another and celebrate one of our last times together.

Be brave, be brave, the Myan pilot needs no aeroplane.

Gary Johnson is speaking at Paul Festival?

Dang, and I was really looking forward to it...I'm not going if that warmongering closet neocon is speaking...
