Why I Will Not Be Going To Paulfest And Why Its Name Should Be Changed For Ron Pauls Sake; a call to arms
Submitted by natenathanaelgr... on Sat, 06/23/2012 - 04:49Sorry guys, but as a die hard liberty and Ron Paul fan that lives in the outskirts of Tampa, I CANNOT; I WILL NOT go to Paul Fest (please change its name immediately) because it will be an embarrassment to Ron Pauls 2012 campaign within the Republican party and even he knows it which is most likely the reason for Bentons statement of Ron Paul NOT GOING TO PAULFEST (he cant be seen with GJ or schiff who will be speaking there).
I had saved up for 2 three day VIP passes and planned on going out and screaming my lungs out for Ron to show the establishment status quo neocon shmucks that they CANT hold a candle to him and his message in comparison. However, with recent invitations going out to Gary Johnson and Peter Schiff (who prematurely endorsed GJ) will be there and have speaking slots.
The Paulfest has really thumbed their nose at Ron Paul and ALL of us Ron Paul supporters. I cant believe the shortsightedness of those who are running this thing. I understand Gary is a great guy, I personally would choose him should Paul somehow NOT win the nomination, but to throw in the towel before the fat lady sings? Cmon now? That is what the establishment WANTS (maybe they have some hand in this some freakin how by a longshot).
They would love for there to be ANYTHING to bash Paul for cause they know that delegates ARE NOT BOUND by petty state convention rules. They stated in 08 "delegates may vote their conscious and are free agents on any ballot without recognition of any binding". You know what they will be badmouthing about? Nothing credible unless we give them something. Do not feed the RINOs or they will steal the nomination FOR GOOD with this.
They will say "hey look its the end of the Revolution lol@Paul for having libertarian candidate and endorser at his festival!!! see he really is a sellout and will endorse Gary Johnson if he doesnt win the nomination, what a sore loser make sure you DONT vote Ron Paul so that ALL the ron paul people leave the GOP already and we can go back to warmongering in peace"
Please, as a REAL Ron Paul supporter do not attend a Ron Paul fest that is Ron Paul in name only since he WONT EVEN come to it now because of who all else will be there. No different than a RINO (republican in name only). I understand the GOP have treated us HORRIBLY and DISGUSTINGLY this whole way, but the steps to winning are first they laugh at us (check), then they fight us (check), then WE win (pending). Itd be awesome to have a party for all of us RON PAUL supporters, but if that means we need to save that party in our pants till after the convention then so be it, I can wait 1 more day to do so, IVE WAITED 5 years for RON PAUL TO WIN IM NOT GOING TO SUPPORT ANYTHING THAT COULD POTENTIALLY RUIN HIS CHANCES AT THE LAST GODDAMN SECOND LIEK THIS.
Personally, I would go up against my own party (republican) just for Ron Paul, dont dare doubt that for a second and think I wont do my best to protect him from a different threat. I know Gary Johnson isnt our #1 enemy (hes more of a ally in the cause of liberty to be honest), but as long as Ron Paul has 5 states (which he does) and is on the ballot and has a speaking slot (which I bet my life on will be announced as we get closer and all the delegates have been selected the RINOs just wanna keep saying rMoney is the nominee so that RP will have no credibility at state conventions and can win more rMoney delegates easier), WE ARE STILL IN IT TO WIN IT. Not hand off ALL THE TOTAL ACCUMULATION OF WORK, SWEAT, TEARS, MONEY that we have all so generously poured into this effort, only to have it ruin us at the end.
We are better than this, we are smarter than this, its why we are ALL ON RON PAULS SIDE CAUSE WE HAVE A WORKING BRAIN BETWEEN OUR EARS. This is about RON PAUL AND until the RNC convention proves us and Rons message wrong by ... you guessed it ACTUALLY nominating rMoney. Until then rMoney is just a presumptive egotistical neocon that HAS NOT WON THE NOMINATION.
Dont do me the favor because personally I dont give a frick about me. DO RON PAUL THE FAVOR. Make Ron Paul look like the most amazing person to step into the ring the past 100 years. WE HAVE TO LEVERAGE RON PAULS GOOD NAME and nobody elses if we want to win this.
We will all be in Tampa. The MSM and the GOP CANNOT BLACK US OUT WHEN WE OUT NUMBER THEM a million to one in Tampa. Rise up RONbots. DO NOT GIVE UP ON PAUL. DO NOT GIVE UP ON AMERICA. We need now more than ever to stand for what we believe and as long as Ron Paul is still awaiting the delegates decision on the floor of the RNC in Tampa, ITS NOW OR NEVER good ol Doc AINT GETTING YOUNGER. Do not spit on his long arduous efforts to claim POTUS for ALL OF US.
DO NOT WEAKEN OUR STATUS IN THE GOP BY THWARTING OUR EFFORTS, this is almost benedict arnold status. If you want Gary Johnson so bad why dont you marry him? jk that was just my attempt to bring humor to this very serious situation we all need to step up to the plate and hit a home run in the bottom of the 9th, 1 man on base, 2 outs, 2 strikes, down by 1.
But in all seriousness, have courtesy and respect for Ron Paul; his candidacy depends on it. Please if you are a die hard GJ fan wait atleast till 2 seconds after the nomination to hop on his bandwagon should that be the route you choose. I want to run for congress in 2014 (first year of eligibility) and if we dont have these inroads in the GOP I will not beat the RINO who voted cispa sopa pipa ndaa if yall up and leave. Im an honest son of a preacher man (lol at that song) and money cannot buy me. The future of our movement as the GOP HEAVYWEIGHT is coming, believe me I have true grit and Im a third or fourth the age of these old guard status quo establishment neocons and i see them for exactly what they are. VIVA LA MF REVOLUTION
PS I will go if they reverse these bad decisions even if Ron doesnt come, but he most likely WILL come should they DO THE RIGHT THING. :)

And I do the same. And I
And I do the same. And I don't need an organization to do it.
Why do I need you to "vet" issues and candidates for me? Are you going to be a Democrat and tell me what is good for me now?

You are telling me that you don't understand how these political parties operate.
YOU do not need me to vet anything for you. YOU may not even want me to vet anything for you. I sure wouldn't want anyone vetting anything for me, but others have been vetting issues and candidates for me my whole life because THAT is how the political parties operate their central committees.
I'm not going to tell you what is good for you. That is not my interest or job. I am not going to be a Democrat. I am a Republican and I had to petition for signatures and get ballot access, and since I ran unopposed, I won my seat. What we do on committees is we look at issues and candidates and we discuss them, and vote on them, from dog catcher to walking your dog, people and their issues come to us, and we vote to support or not.
County district to county to state district to region to state to national. Where ever you live in the USA you have Democratic and Republican Central Committees who are voting on issues, taxes, propositions, measures, laws, and all candidates...
So whether you like us or not, we have the power to put things and people on the ballot or not.
You can imagine whoever and whatever you want on the ballot, but we are the ones who actually have POWER to change your life.
And this is why Ron Paul said, GET ON A COMMITTEE.
It's not majic, It's not imaginary, it's THE process, and you either become part of it, or you are subjected to it.
It's more powerful than any letter to any editor. It's a control box that is what puts presidents, governors and everyone and everything on the ballot.

Everyone else John is like you
They are not on committees, making the desisions of what gets in the marketplace of ideas to be heard and shared, with financial backing.
You can call it back room manipulations, but it's an elected job open to the public.
I'm here asking you to bust us. Break in on us, expose us and our back room deals.
You can be like everyone else and give me reasons why you won't.
But I have broken out of the herd, and now have a place by the watering hole of where ideas are hatched or not with financial backing or not.
Join me. I dare you.
Or be like everyone else and give me excuses.

As I understand it, Paul
As I understand it, Paul turned down Paul Fest before Gary Johnson was asked to speak.
If your main guy blows you off, and you have someone who's eager and willing, why not?
Isn't it good to have an ACTUAL Presidential candidate speak at your festival?
Ron Paul could easily go to Paul Fest, he's not actively campaigning. He just is blowing off his supporters.
This is all so high school. All the girls have a crush on the football star, but he's not interested in any of them.

Disagree 100%!
You are obviously an OUTSIDER, watching Lamestream Media and getting your news from the papers.
I'm on the inside, and I can tell you it looks COMPLETELY different!
Hell, Paul Festival is more Pro Ron Paul than THE NATIONAL CAMPAIGN!
I could go on with a LOT of facts surrounding the events in Tampa, But that wouldn't jive with your disruptive division tactics, so I'll leave it at "if anyone wants Ed's view, please send me a message and we'll communicate privately without the Trolls chiming in with their perceived BS."
I'll leave it at this: remember THE R3VOLUTION MARCH in Washington DC in July of '08? Well, those of us who staged that event - SOLELY ON THE WORD OF RON PAUL - with the cost coming out of OUR POCKETS...
THAT'S who is putting on Paul Festival!
I will be there with R3VOLUTION MARCH Grand Marshal Trevor Oyate, and I will be a Lt. Marshal working on the Security Team.
I'm also an Alternate Delegate representing Arizona at the RNC.
Go ahead. Doubt my loyalties so you can demonize me - IF YOU CAN!
Signed,
You KNOW who I am!

I just dont get this either..
I was going to this event 100%...now Im not so sure..this SHOULD NOT be taking place at the PAULFEST! PERIOD! Call me a "Party Pooper" if you care to..but this sends a MIXED MESSAGE when we must have ONE MESSAGE and ONE MESSAGE O-N-L-Y! Its Dr. Ron Paul OR NO ONE! I WILL NOT be voting for anyone but RON PAUL..I took that oath ALONG time ago on here and in my heart..SCREW EVERYONE ELSE. They do not DESERVE my vote and wont be getting it either. I really do pray that "something" happens in the upcoming weeks to change my mind..I was looking forward to the RONVOY to Tampa..but not so much anymore..am I wrong people??? Ron Paul MUST give a thumbs up to this Fest or Im staying home, I think that this is only fair for those of us who dug deep when we could not afford to. Bummed out In Oshkosh by Gosh....

Bottom line
Ron Paul is working to change the Republican Party Platform, and Paulfest is working to promote the LP. That is why Ron won't attend and if he isn't attending you should change the name. I agree this Paulfest is a total insult to our delegates and all the hard work done by them over the past 4 years.
A great way to sabatoge our delegates
Sorry but this is a great way to sabatoge our
Delegates, and all we have worked for. The establishment outnumbers our delegates 3:1. Putting a prOgram together that would show support for the LP seriously undermines their ability to change the platform. Why would the establishment work with us if they feel we are going to abandon them in November? Even though we will not support Romney we don't have to shove it their faces.
Thank You!
My sentiments exactly. I"m not totally convinced on GJ and wish those who think he's the answer to wait a bit.
The diehards in the actual libertarian party here in NH only have 3% so they are not going to win anything by going with GJ.

Oh, party-pooper...
.... live and let live. Good heavens, such narrow-mindedness does not belong among those who love liberty.
Gary Johnson is an ardent Ron Paul supporter.
Nobody know what will happen in Tampa. Paul's ardent supporters vs. the GOP Politburo's machinery, including MSM's spin-machine that will smooth talk any egregious deeds done by the Politburo.
Until then, party on and have fun. The Fest celebrates Ron Paul. As is everything with Ron Paul, it is all-inclusive.
Come on, let's not become hateful and spiteful like the Hanity's, Levins, Becks and Limbaughs of this world.

Why stop with GJ?
Why don't they just invite all RP's opponents? The ones he's outlasted as well as Mitt and Obama? Hey maybe we could have another debate! Oh I forgot, the one candidate whose name the Fest is supposedly honoring, won't be there.
How bizarre, IMO, to invite GJ. Cui bono ? I always have to ask in these kinds of events because I know it's not RP.
I totally agree with the poster, the time to think about GJ, IF one is going to, is 2 secs AFTER the GOP Nominee is selected and not 1 second before. Since when did RP supporters ever have time and money to waste?
What if the nominee is RP?

that if Ron Paul wins the Republican nomination GJ is going to drop out of the presidential race and become a Republican again so he can stump for Ron?
heh.... didn't think so.
GJ IS Ron's opponent.

Actually, I am relatively
Actually, I am relatively sure he would do that, if Ron Paul were to ask him to be his VP. Or, at the very least, run an extremely complimentary campaign designed to help BOTH of them pull in more votes. Just as he did last year. Gary Johnson is in this to build a base, not to win. You have to get past step one before you get to step two. If he gets into the debates, then he goes for the win. But even Ron Paul knows hes out. He's said so repeatedly.

How can you say that now that GJ is the LP
Candidate and RP is vying for the GOP Nominee? I get the gist of what you said [GJ endorsed RP in 08], but none the less, they ARE opponents now. I'll even go so far as to give you that RP is more Libertarian than GJ - Common ground for you to stand on....doesn't change the fact-they are opponents in this race are they not?
"If you want something you've never had before, you have to do something you've never done before." Debra Medina
What has he ever said that
What has he ever said that was anti- Ron Paul or against his Presidency?
Gary Johnson is a proponent of liberty and has always supported Ron Paul. In fact, Gary Johnson's presence has done nothing but help Ron by expanding the message and by legitimizing him. Ron Paul is not all by himself.
Gary Johnson was practically CAMPAIGNING for Ron Paul.

Now I understand you, John,
thanks to your other comments here, wherein you spoke of "RP idolators". Consequently (you conclude), they're unrealistic? Is that about right?
Maybe you think all RP supporters are unrealistic and idolators and, if only they'd listen to John Ashman, GJ could save us all. Getting warm, John?
That's the clue. Here's a hint, buddy: Your own adolescent idolatry of GJ is painfully obvious.
"If you want something you've never had before, you have to do something you've never done before." Debra Medina
Incorrect. i support Gary
Incorrect. i support Gary Johnson, i don't idolize him. He's a good candidate, not a great one. He IS a great governor, but he's not a John Edwards or Bill Clinton or even a Barack Obama in front of a microphone. And he makes mistakes like the rest of us. He also, unlike most politicians, owns up to them.
In any case, if there were someone who I thought was better and more likely to win, I'd abandon Johnson in a heartbeat. I've never said "No one but Johnson" like the popular "no one but Paul" slogan here.
And I am willing to vote for Ron Paul if he were to magically get the nomination for very practical reasons. He's more likely to win and more likely to set the stage for more good candidates like Johnson. That failing, I go immediately to the smart back up plan, which is the younger, more inclusive, more approachable Johnson.

I agree with you.
Why do this FEST? We should be working to conserve our efforts to support the delegates, really support them, by gathering funds to send them to Tampa.
Even a dime spent on this fest is a waste, money that should and must go to fund our delegates.
Thank you Doctor K!
Been an avid follower of you on here and your site. I think I will put my money where my mouth is and help the delegates instead of Gary Johnson Fest. Id rather get sunburnt from sign waving for RON PAUL for 3 days than hear what could possibly be the downfall of our efforts towards growing our presence amongst the GOP.

paul
Or no one
The way things have turned out
is very odd to me.
I've been a member here for a long time, but I don't post very much. I read DP every day, and I'm shaking my head over the turn of events, so I'm going to have my big say about it. I might even use caps at times. This is just my opinion, remember.
Why promote a opposing candidate at an event being held in RP's honor, and right BEFORE the nominating process? Why? Why? Why? If nothing else, how does this LOOK? Appearances matter a lot in politics.
The events of the last two months stink of ulterior motives.
We who have wanted Ron Paul to be President have supported him over the years, both financially and with our time - have supported him to WIN! Sure, it has always been a very long shot, but when you enter the process, you take your best shot at trying to WIN, not just spread ideas and have a voice. TO WIN.
Seems as if the whole campaign wasn't about trying to win.
BEFORE Tampa, his son endorses another candidate, and a festival in his honor is now featuring another candidate.
Ron keeps saying it is all about the delegates and the platform, but everyone who knows politics knows that the platform is meaningless. Is he that much of an idealist that he thinks influencing the platform will do ANYTHING to change Romney?
So okay, if it is all about the delegates then...Ron Paul supporters: why not have a unified for Ron Paul showing in Tampa by both the delegates, and non-delegate supporters outside the convention hall? Why invite another candidate to Paulfest? Do you not see that this WEAKENS the delegates position and message? Does the campaign not see that Ron Paul holding a rally at the same time Paulfest WEAKENS the delegates voice?
In fact, many things that have happened in the last two months has served to WEAKEN AND DESTROY Ron Paul's campaign and turn his supporters away. Doesn't anyone else find this implosion a bit odd?
The "official" Ron Paul campaign will not pursue voter fraud.
The "official" Ron Paul campaign asks that his supporters "be respectful."
Rand Paul endorses Romney BEFORE Tampa.
The "official" Ron Paul campaign comes out BEFORE Tampa telling everyone there is no chance they will have enough delegates, with seemingly no concern that some delegates have saved up hard-earned money they can use elsewhere, to travel to Tampa. If I were a delegate from, say, Washington or the far west, I'd consider staying home. Really. I know that's not nice, but hey, most of us could use that money for things like groceries. It's like telling people after they enter a road race that they have no chance to win. So why bother showing up? To cheer for Ron Paul? To "send a message?" Please. If people really think that the GOP will let RP supporters do ANYTHING at the convention now (especially since Rand endorsed Romney and Ron has essentially said he's out) but sneer at Ron Paul folks, then they don't know Republicans very well.
The "official" Ron Paul campaign decides to hold a rally at the same time as the Paulfest.
Suddenly, GJ is being promoted often on Daily Paul. Peter Schiff and GJ are invited to speak at PAULFEST.
Doesn't anyone else find all these things a bit undermining? Divide and conquer? Obama-ite infiltration? (If the RP people vote for GJ, Obama is sure to win, not Romney.)
Or,
Was RP (the man) EVER serious about trying to actually win?
Who encouraged Johnson to run on the Libertarian ticket against Ron Paul?
Was the RP campaign really working toward getting RP the nomination, or do/did they have ulterior motives?
Was a deal made early on with Romney, and the whole thing a sham?
Are some passionate RP supporters really paid Obama/Romney supporters, just like those paid bloggers we see everywhere now?
Too many questions, too many possible motives.
*****
Look, I have no issue with Gary Johnson. He has some good ideas. I don't really care if anyone here or there want to support him. But an opposing candidate at a PUBLIC EVENT HONORING RON PAUL'S BIRTHDAY BEFORE THE CONVENTION? What were they thinking? To "send a message?" The Republicans do not care about messages. They have already written RP supporters off as crazies, and do not give a fig who we support. But the Obama folks do, I'm sure.
Don't folks see how bad this makes Ron Paul supporters look? We're already thought of as lunatics. Now we're even worse - we abandon our candidate before the convention and hire another candidate to speak. Hmm.
The whole thing has really degenerated into manipulation and politics, worse than '08. The main reason why I have supported Ron Paul over the years is that he has risen above politics and put the people first.
But this 2012 campaign has smacked of politics, backroom deals, manipulation, and just basic poor manners.
It stinks, and I don't know who or why, but there's something very rotten underneath it all.
So, it's either two things. Gross mismanagement, or this was the plan all along by the "enemy."
I don't think that politicians and those who surround them are as stupid as they seem - or want us to believe. Every move is calculated, and the bottom line is usually power or money.
Extremely disappointed it turned out this way.
The liberty movement will go on, but I think that it will have to work outside politics if it is to be effective. Perhaps Ron should have been an educator or speaker instead of a politician. Perhaps more of you should get out of politics and become educators or speakers or writers. Politics stinks and is rotten to the core. I don't think it can be made ethical anymore, even if the candidate is ethical. Those surrounding him may not be ethical. His supporters may be paid by the opposition. Who the **** knows anymore?
Okay, I've had my say, carry on. I'm not sure I will post again, the whole thing has made me very tired and fed up.

It's just reality. It's
It's just reality. It's nice to have pipe dreams, but don't spend money and time pursuing it!
Who didn't see this happening months ago? The Ron Paul coup was never really possible. Sure, if it were like 55/45 split, MAYBE, but this was more like a 90/10 split and the 10 had to flip far more delegates than he even had!
Some things come to an end, it's a transition moment. The realists are moving on and the rest are just going to have their spirits crushed for supporting the impossible.
This is no one's fault but that of reality. Ron Paul made a great effort, did the best he could, but America itself isn't on board yet.
The main goal has to be running educational candidates over and over and drawing more and more support.
Gary Johnson's campaign has already alluded to the idea that his 2012 run is just setting the stage for 2016. Building a base, getting to the debates, getting into the media, creating a message, building legitamacy, attracting donors. He's not going to pack his bags and go home after this like Bob Barr did.
Imagine a Gary Johnson candidacy if the Koch brothers put their money where their mouths are.

...well said.
Support Ron Paul by helping the law suit to unbind the delegates and then support the delegates to vote for Ron Paul. Period.
Everything else is distraction.
Very intelligent post Suzan
it is all about those cold calculations, each and every step. Could not agree with you more. However, I respect Ron Paul and believe he is very wise and knows this party inside and out, lets see him pull out the win, he has his 5 states now, weve done our part, now he needs to preach at that convention like theres no tommorow. I know the good Doctor can melt the hearts of any of the delegates there!!! He needs to be picture perfect leading up to the FIGHT OF THE CENTURY! My heat just won their world championships, Ron Pauls up! Lets go Paul!

I know too. I voted for McCain and vowed never to get involved in politics after that fiasco.
I believed the "crazy as a loon" meme just like every other mis-informed voter.
One day I fell upon Dr Paul's video and listened to him. My Jaw dropped and I said to myself, "this guy is far from crazy" He's spot on.
I love Rep Paul so much now I could cry tears of joy at times.
Anyone who hears Rep Paul speak cannot ever turn back to believing he's crazy. Far from it.
So pack them in. Get oromney delegates to listen to Paul. There will be no turning back.
Ron Paul is da man.
The only ones I truly trust
are Ron and Carol Paul, and Tom Woods. Everyone else I take with a grain of salt. Tom Woods would have been a great asset to the Ron Paul campaign. Too bad the campaign turned him down.
