Ron Paul Warns Neocons, Hands Off Syria!

Before the US House of Representatives: Statement Introducing HR 5993, The Syria Non-Intervention Act of 2012

Mr. Speaker: The Administration is marching toward another war in the Middle East, this time against Syria. As with the president's war against Libya, Congress has been frozen out of the process. The Constitution, which grants Congress and only Congress the authority to declare war, is once again being completely ignored.

The push for a US attack on Syria makes no sense, is not in our interest, and will likely make matters worse. Yet the Administration, after transferring equipment to the Syrian rebels and facilitating the shipment of weapons from Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, has indicated that its plans for an actual invasion are complete.

This week there are even press reports that the Central Intelligence Agency is distributing assault rifles, anti-tank rocket launchers, and other ammunition to the Syrian opposition. These are acts of war by the United States government. But where is the authority for the president to commit acts of war against Syria? There is no authority. The president is acting on his own.

Today we are introducing legislation to prevent the administration from accelerating its plan to overthrow the Syrian government by assisting rebel forces that even the administration admits include violent Islamic extremists.

The bill is simple. It states that absent a Congressional declaration of war on Syria:

"No funds available to the Department of Defense or an element of the intelligence community may be obligated or expended for the purpose or which would have the effect of supporting, directly or indirectly, military or paramilitary operations in Syria by any nation, group, organization, movement, or individual."

This legislation is modeled after the famous Boland Amendments of the early 1980s that were designed to limit the president's assistance to the Contras in their attempt to overthrow the government of Nicaragua. Congress has an obligation to exercise oversight of the president's foreign policy actions and to protect its constitutional prerogatives. This legislation will achieve both important functions.

Mr. Speaker, the last thing this country needs is yet another war particularly in the Middle East. Even worse is the president once again ignoring the Legislative Branch and going to war on his own. I hope my colleagues will join me in standing up for our Constitutional authority and resisting what will be another disastrous war in the Middle East.

How little we are in control

How little we are in control of our own government and our elected represntatives, is this plan was created under Bush, and we change leaders, and the same faceless people go right on operating the military like nothing has happened.

This is how dictatorships are made.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

we have no business here, there, or anywhere--

*we* (ah, that ubiquitous term that is used for the shadowy movements of the so-called "American government")--

have no business:

in the middle east anywhere
in Europe
in Asia anywhere
in Africa
in South America

We have no business:

in the personal/private lives of any man, woman, or child in the world
in anyone's dairy
in anyone's garden
in anyone's home
in anyone's head
in anyone's body

We have no business paying for:

medical care
retirement (even though I agree with Dr. Paul about SS for now)

The only business the American government has ever had has been to protect the freedoms of those who live within the borders of the U.S. (and I'm not even convinced that includes Hawaii)--

and in that business *we* have been profoundly unsuccessful--

miserable situation--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

please add Central America & the Caribbean

June 29 2009 - US was involved in the military coup in Honduras which removed the elected President Zelaya by an American plane to Costa Rica, in pajamas and in the middle of night.

Mind you, it was 2009 - Obama Administration (Clintons lawyers). The unlawful President Lobo is now in charge, letting the USA build several new military bases in the country to expand the War On Drugs.

There are also projects for Charter Cities in the indigenous lands.

It happened in May this year.

Please share these news. Everybody knows about Syria. But this war in Honduras has been almost totally clandestine, now for 3 years, while the principles outlined by Ron Paul's legislature above also apply! And Honduras is much closer to home. Remember the Contras?

Ron Paul ... forever.

you are correct--

I was not being specific enough on this hemisphere. I know that the Caribbean (and Mexico and Central America) have experienced MUCH too much manipulation and interference from the 'government'--

I just left it out--

kind of figured that South America covered anything south of Florida and California/Arizona/Texas/New Mexico, including the Caribbean islands--

which is not the correct geographical term, of course--

Thank you for this information--

on Honduras; it is SO sad--

very nicely stated.

very nicely stated.

We have no business in Syria

Obama knows he wouldn't get the support by going to Congress since it's obvious our national security is not threatened in any way by Syria.

I am so proud of Ron Paul!!!

Add it to the taxpayers tab.

The tax payers are paying for the US-NATO globalization. This is not just another war. It is another step along the way to world conquest by the NWO.

Thank you Ron Paul for standing against this corrupt abuse of power!
