From the Desk of Convention CEO William D. Harris
We are now less than 100 days away from the start of the 2012 Republican National Convention, when we will formally nominate former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to be the next president of the United States.
Earlier this month, more than 450 media representatives descended on Tampa for our Spring Media Walk-Through, held at the Tampa Bay Times Forum and Tampa Convention Center. The media received an update on convention planning and got their first chance to examine and begin configuring their workspaces. A team from our general services contractor, Freeman Company, was on hand to take custom orders from media outlets for everything from office furniture to walls and dividers. Official telecommunications provider, Bright House Networks, was also on hand to take orders for media attendees’ voice and data needs.
Earlier this month, we announced state delegation hotel assignments. Whether along the beautiful beaches of St. Petersburg or Clearwater, near a scenic golf course in Palm Harbour or in the heart of downtown Tampa, all of the delegations have been matched with superb accommodations at one of the approximately 100 convention hotels across the area. Thanks to the many great hotels and resorts in the Tampa Bay area, we were able to accommodate each delegation in a single hotel, without splitting any of them up. You can click here to see the full list of assignments, and for more information, be sure to read “100 Days and Counting,” below.
By making full use of social media, we’re going to make the 2012 Republican National Convention the most accessible event of its kind. Users will be able to visit our official website, www.GOPconvention2012.com, friend us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter or circle us on Google+. Whether at home in Albuquerque or on the front lines in Afghanistan, anyone with Internet access will be able to watch streaming video, receive news or interact directly with newsmakers, convention officials and the delegates themselves.
We have also launched our “Convention Without Walls” app on Facebook, which allows users to share their convention experiences, stories and streaming video. I invite you to sign up for the app at www.conventionwithoutwalls.com, and share it with your family and friends.
I am amazed and proud of what our team has accomplished since hitting the ground in the Tampa Bay area, but there is still much more to do. With your continued feedback and support, I am confident this will be the best Republican National Convention yet – a great springboard for Mitt Romney’s march to the White House.
