Treachery in ArkansasSubmitted by Westfall on Tue, 06/26/2012 - 23:55
In my state, Arkansas, we Ron Paul supporters organized and took 6 delegates spots + alternates.
Our state Ron Paul coordinator, Monica Serrano, has given us many different and conflicting instructions regarding who to vote for on the first ballot. From this sent via email earlier this month:
"As for voting for Paul on the first round....that is completely up to you. I've seen several arguments for your right to do so, and at this point....I'm just leaving it in your hands to make the call. I'm sure you'll do what's best. :-)"
To these instructions also sent this month:
First, I need to KNOW that you will honor the pledges I had you sign which says you will vote for the person you are bound to....please promise me you will honor the promise you made when signing that pledge. Once you have confirmed this with me, will you PLEASE PLEASE send an email to (redacted) and your chairman and district chairman that you will honor the bound rules and you WILL vote Romney while in Tampa?
To this lovely threat:
Anyone who steps out of line (meaning voting for Paul in Tampa) will not have the support of the campaign, and likely not have the support of the AR Constitutional Republicans. I can promise, you will not have my support. I have great sway with many in this movement and I will make it my mission to prevent you from taking part in our actions going forward.
She then went on to CLAIM that the Ron Paul campaign wanted us to vote for Romney on the first ballot:
I DO know for sure the campaign does NOT want you voting Paul on the first ballot. JOHN TATE SAID SO... for the umpteenth thousandth time! He said specifically you would cause damage...here is what John Tate told Doug and Doug cced me
<< REDACTED Private email >>
When I contacted the campaign to verify this (I have every intention of supporting them--whatever their plan is), I got a response indicating these instructions may not have came from the national campaign.
Monica then completely flipped out and sent out emails to everyone in her "AR CONSTITUTIONAL republicans" group and many in the state party accusing me of lying, and other such unprofessional accusations.
She has further went on to claim our establishment Republican are "Gangster" republicans, and has vowed to use her AR constitutional republican group to unseat them and take over the party. To be sure, some of them are awful and need to go, but many in our party are professional and fair to RP people, like our state and my personal district and county chairmen.
The best case scenario has failed to communicate between delegates and the national campaign, causing great confusion and infighting...
The worst case is that she using the spirit of the Ron Paul movement to springboard her little AR-Constitutional Republican group (which takes some very different positions than Dr. Paul) into power at the state level, furthering her own lustful political ambitions.
I know Dr. Paul would never tell anyone how to vote, or pressure someone into signing pledges, or frequently change his position on who we should vote for, so perhaps it is the later case.
There are few things worse than a tyrant that comes bearing the banner of liberty, as a mere ploy to gain political power :/
