'Audit the Fed’ bill advances in the House by voice vote

Wednesday, June 27, 2012

The House oversight committee voted Wednesday to demand a broad audit of the Federal Reserve System by congressional investigators — a major move that lawmakers said is designed to bring accountability to the murky workings of the independent central bank.

The bill was sponsored by Rep. Ron Paul, the Texas Republican who turned the push for an audit into a powerful presidential campaign slogan and whose criticism of the Fed’s monetary policy drew hundreds of thousands of voters into the political process.

It passed by voice vote, signaling the growing sense among lawmakers that the time has come for a full review.

“Clearly the Fed must be made too big to fail, and too big to fail requires a considerable amount of oversight,” said Rep. Darrell E. Issa, California Republican, who is chairman of the committee

Hope it helps!

It now moves...

...to the floor for full vote.

On June 27, 2012, House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform passed HR 459 (a bill to audit the Fed); the Bill now moves to the full House for passage then to the Senate then to the President to become law.

It is not over--this is an equally important stage and we cannot be asleep. Keep the pressure on!

Contact your House Reps., and Senators (Senate Bill S-202 is the Senate version of the Bill) and politely DEMAND they pass HR 459 and make it law.

We cannot sleep now. It is not over until we see it through--when the law passes, it would be a major win for America and Ron Paul.

Contact your House Reps., and Senators

I just emailed Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Joseph I.Lieberman and Congressman Joe Courtney of Connecticut. Go to www.house.gov and www.senate.gov to find out who your Senators and Congressman are. It was easy!

I also recommend using popvox dot com...

I have totally no affiliation with and I get nothing from this site I am promoting. I find it very useful in every respect and it has proved to be very effective so I'm spreading a good thing. In the popvox site you can read the actual Bill, get the status of the Bill, read endorsed and opposed comments, see a geographical distribution of opinions, etc. You don't have to go to the different Congressional House websites to voice your support; this is an all in one site (you do need to know the different House Bills #: House of Rep., is "HR 459", the Senate version of the bill is "S 202" [start by typing either Bill in the search bar; state your position; when finished with one, do the same for the other Bill]). You don't have to know your House of Rep's or Senator's names (yeah, let's move on) which is required when using the official Congressional websites. Popvox will automatically link you to your Congresspersons by your address which you'll need to provide (you have to provide this at the official websites too so there's no getting around this to make your voice heard). When you've completed registering your position popvox will send it off in a collected batch. I find this website more effective in communicating collective works than using the official websites.

Joe Lieberman

I can't stand that neocon. Personally I kind of think he cares more about Israel than America (I'm Jewish by the way). I have no idea where he stands on auditing the Fed but I would guess he votes against it because he seems to be a VERY establishment/status quo kinda guy.

I agree with u kevink...

Lie berman has sponsor Bills that totally work against the American people; I honestly believe he'll sell his mother if he could get something for her dead or alive. His record and actions in Congress is like a revolving door totally open for business of the selfish kind.

I say: if you can't make it better, don't make it worst!

I wish I could

But I won't because I know the answer...No! My state is screwed up royally and I hate it.

For The Power of The Republic!

So the Washington Times

So the Washington Times reports that Paul's push for auditing the Fed drew "hundreds of thousands of voters into the political process." While I am sure this is an accurate statement, I'll bet if you count the total number of votes that the GOP claims Dr. Paul has received, it will be significantly less than a hundred thousand votes and no where near the "hundreds of thousands" summarized here.

That being said, I'm super happy this is moving in the right direction.

the first paragraph could be left out...

Your last sentence is the one that matter the paragraph serves no purpose.

I say: if you can't make it better, don't make it worst!

No real purpose was intended

No real purpose was intended in the first paragraph. It was just a "comment" that the GOP and the rest of the establishment will change their positions depending on the benefit they receive.

You are correct, the last sentence was focused on the important part.

I Don't Think It Should Be Left TO GAO Solely

too much chance for corruption - they should tack on some outside, third party individuals with accounting experience. The Fed is going to start checking to make sure the books are cooked right- everything damaging won't have a digital or paper trail - and just in case Fed, Wall Street and Treasury insiders are hiding assets.

Iam mad

I just saw that a rep from Maryland, my home state and a Democrat Elijah Cummings supported an amendment that would prevent auditors from taking a look at internal board discussions. This is an outrage. I have never been so annoyed and angry. It was defeated but still I am PO. He should be jailed or worse as well. I am glad it was defeated. Maryland is a horrible state and I hate it. We have idiots like that running the place. I hope the liberty movement marches through Maryland and burns them all out.

Elijah Cummings didn't just support it,

he sponsored the amendment that would have gutted the bill.

Cummings also doesn't think

Cummings also doesn't think Holder did anything wrong in regards to Fast and Furious

Now - Write To That Elected Representative

I dont like that line

Issa said, about the fed being to big to fail. It is not! Unless it is sarcasm and meant in an ugly way. The only people that are too big to fail are the American people, who deserve much better. We deserve more than failure. Chop the feds head off.

Hold on everyone!

This is not Congress, this voice vote was in a committee meeting that was essential to get it to the House Vote! From some of these comments it seems we might be thinking Audit the Fed passed the House and is moving on to the Senate. Not yet. This was the first step and praise the Lord, we made it through committee. Now everyone remember to email your address book http://www.chooseliberty.org/auditrphf2.aspx?pid=0620p and post this far and wide so every single Congressman gets inundated with emails demanding he support Audit the Fed. An overwhelming vote would make Senators sit up and take notice. Because write now, we've only got 20 co-sponsors in the Senate. Pray and lets do our part. This isn't over - its just begun! House vote coming soon in July and upon passage, Senate will vote after that.

Easy as 1,2,3...

It will take you about 20 seconds (or less if you're a fast typist) to fill in your first name, last name, email and zip code. That's it – and it will go straight to your Congressman. http://www.chooseliberty.org/auditrphf2.aspx?pid=0620p . With our economy falling in shambles around us and the Campaign for Liberty being so organized and making it so easy for us, we've no excuse not to do our part: namely, take the 20 seconds to send it to your representative and then email this to every American citizen you know. Don't forget to pray daily for Audit the Fed's success through both houses of Congress and the Executive Branch.

Please note that the link is sending to your one Congressman because the vote is first in the House. However, it sure wouldn't hurt to call the Capitol switchboard at 202-224-3121to also urge your two Senators ahead of time to become co-sponsors to Audit the Fed.

There's no guarantee

that the Senate will even vote on the bill.

S. 202 is stuck in the Senate Banking Committee chaired by Senator Tim Johnson of South Dakota. For all we know, he can sit on the bill and do nothing.

That's why we need all our supporters in South Dakota to pressure Senator Johnson to bring S. 202 up for markup in his committee.

Sen. Rand Paul

has pledged to advance Audit the Fed in the Senate and force a vote. If we could get 400+ co-sponsors in the House, it would send a powerful message to the Senate!

Named Ali already sent me that on facebook. I liked the page and shared it twice. Also if there is a way anyone can call your reps about this and tell them they better vote audit the federal reserve get it out on facebook. I am sure there must be a facebook group or site setup for this kind of thing. Contacted your senators and congressmen about this is very important. Email, call do whatever. I never have, I just may for this.

This is great

But will be meaningless if no action is taken against the federal reserve. I mean Bernanke and all the former heads should all be arrested and jailed or put to death for what they have done. Just like in that short film American Dream when the crowd hung the banker. I mean don't get me wrong, this is a big step, but will be pointless if no action is taken against the criminals. Anyone recieving money from the fed should be arrested as well, I mean the greedy bastards on wallstreet.

All RPaul supporters helped that through...

Our vocalization and passionate support gave those inside Congress who were afraid to speak a brave voice.

The proceeding video...

Now it should go to the floor for a House vote.

Everyone please contact your House Reps., and Senators and tell them to past the Bill and make it law. This is not the end; it just passes Committee so it mya be presented to the House for general vote.
