Ron Paul's Latest "Audit the Fed" Bill Passes Committee Unanimously

This morning, the U.S. House of Representatives Oversight and Government Reform Committee unanimously passed Ron Paul's latest "Audit the Fed" bill, H.R. 459.

The bill would eliminate certain restrictions that now exist on any audits done on the Federal Reserve from 31 U.S.C. 714, such as:

Audits of the Board and Federal reserve banks may not include—

(1) transactions for or with a foreign central bank, government of a foreign country, or nonprivate international financing organization;

(2) deliberations, decisions, or actions on monetary policy matters, including discount window operations, reserves of member banks, securities credit, interest on deposits, and open market operations;

(3) transactions made under the direction of the Federal Open Market Committee; or

(4) a part of a discussion or communication among or between members of the Board and officers and employees of the Federal Reserve System related to clauses (1)–(3) of this subsection.

Again, the above are the existing restrictions that H.R. 459, if it eventually passes the full House and then becomes law in unaltered or unamended form, will eliminate from Fed audits. By the time his last try at this got in some form into a final bill, even Ron Paul himself wouldn't vote for that whole bill.

Only the most corrupt!

Only the most corrupt people in Congress will vote against this bill.
The idea that some private bank controls the money of the United States and can do whatever they want, print how much that they want, and not tell Congress about it is totally ridiculous. This federal reserve system is a form of slavery. We need to see what they're doing and get out from under it. We thought we got rid of slavery in the Civil War. It seems now are all slaves.
We will do everything we can to make sure anyone who votes against this bill is never elected again, not even dog catcher.

Getting more than 34 votes in the Senate is always the problem.

In hard times, getting this to pass the House is easy.

It is getting anything done in the Senate which is always the problem.

Well, I hope they pass it,

Well, I hope they pass it, better than nothing. Good for him.

It would be nice to see him be able to chalk that up as a win after all this time, one against 434.

passed before the lame duck session?

passed before the 112th Congress and Senate reconvenes after the November election (aka lame duck session)? I won't hold my breath.

I think it has a chance.

I think it has a chance. Probably not in the Senate though. That's where the FoBankers really are.

This is very good news

Now what do you think will happen?

it will pass in July

But they will probably "water it down" before giving the green light.

Passing of this bill will be seen as a parting gift to Dr. Paul who retires from Congress in January 2013.

113th Congress

...will shred most of it and water down the remainder.

I can't imagine the House and Senate members

wanting to "give" Dr. Paul anything. If they did, they'd pass it, without amendments and unanimously AND they'd be supportive of his bid for the presidency. You know that won't happen. They'd be happy to have him just fade away. (That won't happen, either.)

As far as watering it down, I they'll all be purchasing flood insurance before giving it the green light.

You said it well
