Texas Woman Arrested for Warning Drivers About Speed Trap

A Houston woman's attempt to save drivers from a speeding ticket landed her something worse: 12 hours in jail.

As she rode her bicycle home from a grocery store last week near downtown Houston, Natalie Plummer noticed police officers pulling over speeders. After she parked her bike and turned one of her grocery bags into a makeshift sign warning drivers about the "speed trap" ahead, an officer drove up and arrested her.

rhokeral enough of us have been intimidated during RP sign waves

I watched my best friend's son 14 years old have his RP sign stolen by an Iowa State Police officer.

He was not standing in the roadway and not hindering traffic in any way.

I was about 50 feet from this little boy and the cop was about to cuff him and take him to jail if I had not run over and stepped in to claim him for my friend.

The boy was doing NOTHING MORE than waving a sign on a 30 MPH road outside the Iowa Straw Poll.

When I approached the officer told me he had stopped because the boy was a danger to himself. WTF! The officer was pissed and grabbed the boys sign and drove off!!!

That is just one incident... Do you want to hear more?

By the way that happened in 2007 and that little boy is all grown up now and he was a RP delegate to the Texas State Convention this year 2012.

.

Good to hear that he's a

Good to hear that he's a delegate! So you ran across a jackass or more. Again, I would think we all should look at folks as individuals. I am an officer and I have never suppressed free speech or murdered anyone but according to some folks here I am a murderer and general suppressor of constitutional rights. Many people would respond with building walls and becoming enemies. Thus we are right back where we started, divided and conquered by the government. I understand that I am probably spinning my wheels but ones gotta try.

Tell 'em

I have relatives that are with LE. Not all do the things that the jackasses, pointed out in these cases, did. (but was the lady encouraging people to speed when officers were not there?) I wish there was a cop around, the other day when some young kid passed me, in town, on my scooter,(breaking several laws) when I was running the speed limit of 30mph. If you think that behavior is OK, then you don't deem my life important, either. It does not matter who is in the wrong in a motorcycle-car accident. The person on the bike is going to get the bad end of the deal! Some cops really are with us to protect and serve. It seems that it is the politicians that have caused the problems by mis-employing the police officers to suppress your and my voting. That makes me think that you and other, law abiding, officers are also being ignored, and given a bad name.

And remember, more speeding tickets are written when the economy is in the tank, like it is, right now. If you can't afford the ticket, slow down. And realize that you CAN be given a ticket for 1-mph over the speed limit. That is the law! I don't speed not because my little car won't do it. I don't speed because I don't feel like giving my money to the government, when I could prevent it, by driving the speed limit. I just hope that I don't get run over by some arrogant a$$hole who doesn't care whether or not he is endangering my life!

Thank you officer for your Ron Paul support!

Let's Boil this Down

Very simply, if the police didn't have quotas and put a first or high priority on making money (which is similar to being a prostitute); they would have considered this a helpful act!

What's the big deal? When you

What's the big deal? When you live in a police state you just have to expect these things.

We had a similar instance in Florida,

except the guy warning drivers parked his car a little further up the road, facing traffic... and flashed his lights at people. When the officers figured out what was going on, they came up and arrested him. He took it to court, and they ruled in his favor... saying that it was "free speech"! So now the police find themselves in a bit of a quandary, because there is now a ruling on record in Florida... saying it is free speech!

Guaranteed they were warned

Guaranteed they were warned by someone who passed her and avoided a speeding ticket. Society is nothing if not self destructive.

Texas is not the only state

Texas is not the only state that does this.

I know it was a spur of the moment decision with her, but she should choose her fights more carefully.
She should have went home and called a friend to video her.
Put on her American Glory T shirt or flag shirt, and grabbed her video.
Anytime one who goes up against law enforcement alone, with no caamera- WILL LOSE. She was challenging them, and should have chosen her fight more carefully, with a witness is all Im saying.
but this chic had guts and is a true blue real American.

I've met my share of Pa. cops that were less than professional.

I recall one time near Phila. the local cops placed their Vascar tapes across the highway. A woman jammed on her brakes skidded across them and tore the unit apart. She was subsequently arrested for destruction of public property. She did , after much time and financial loss, beat the case but to many cops the fact that you must expend resources to defend your self is their ultimate goal. I've been told on more than one occasion by cops that this is their mind set. You pay, they receive over time for attending court.

If not us than who?

i'm sorry. i'm cowardly as

i'm sorry. i'm cowardly as well. i'm hiding. i just have to feel tough to make myself feel better. those bloody nazis! some i know aren't meant for heaven. god, i'm desperate. sorry sorry. forgive my silliness. Now go buy lots of guns and gunsmith your own if possible. grow your food. have midwives and don't give your children to the government for anything, birth certificates, vaccinations, social security, etc. live outside of the system where we become our own anarchic system.

This is coming to a head soon. Bless bless, even people in texas, bloody boot lickers.

i'm voting myself down today.

i'm voting myself down today. but she was awesome. i grew up in texas, but am from pa. it is only appropriate that a woman will stand up for the rights of man in texas, only a woman would in texas. 'nuff said.

I warned other drivers just yesterday!

I saw an unmarked unit hidden at the bottom of a long hill just waiting for cars to speed downhill...so as I climbed I flashed my lights at everyone for about a mile. I could see their brake lights on through my door mirror, so I know I helped some folks to not write a check to the Reich.
Speed traps are NOT about speeding, law enforcement or reckless drivers...it's about revenue.

As I've noted here recently,

As I've noted here recently, in my town the number of officers on the streets actually writing tickets is the highest I've ever seen it. They really want to keep their jobs, regardless of the economic havoc for the citizens of our state.

Vacant homes equals less property taxes. Decreased home

values equals no ability to increase property taxes. Poor economy means people buy less which equals less sales tax revenue. The main functions of a police beat cop is to write crime reports after the fact and generate revenue for their municipality.

speed trap

Imho, she was exercising her freedom of speech. Reality is, though, if you do something to tick off a cop, 9 time out of 10 you're gonna end up paying for it. Arresting her for this is over the top, though.

On the subject of flashing lights to warn others - It wasn't that many years ago when it was commonplace to see folks warn by flashing their lights. Nowadays I seldom see it. I've also gotten some strange looks from other drivers when flashing my lights to warn. Which, instead of flashing high beams, like some do (and which I don't care for because can momentary blind oncoming driver), I blink my lights off and on a couple of times. One blink (turning off and back on) is signal to semi-trucks that they've fully passed you and can safely change lanes, multiple blinks for speed trap ahead.

typical hpd behavior

a 12 hour stay in the downtown Houston jail is normal from my experience many many years ago. in that 12 hours waiting to see a judge they keep you awake and moving every hour or so from cell to nasty filthy cell all day all night. it's not by accident it's by designed. the goal of the police is simply to get you into that system where they know their buddies will abuse you regardless of the outcome of the initial false charges. she can expect to be strip searched several times and interrogated several time by different departments. hours of questions about anything from your medical history all the way to where your grand parents live and how much your car is worth (they want to see if it's worth stealing) etc etc. her charges like mine may be dismissed after a long battle and $1000's of dollars spent on lawyers fees but the "contempt of cop" sentence has already been carried out.

p.s. the public defenders work for and with the state to screw you and move on to their next victim of the state as fast as they can. they've got their tyranny down to a science.

If they're stupid enough to

If they're stupid enough to speed they deserve a ticket.

Take your ritalin, put down the cell phone, and pay attention to the goddamn road.

If the cops gave a shit

About public safety, they would be fine with someone holding a sign that makes people slowdown. But since this is in fact about revenue, they are more worried about extracting fines.

Go to any elementary school and see for yourself.

The police car parks in a location AFTER motorists drive past the 15 mph school zone not BEFORE. It's certainly not about the public safety of our kids or they would be slowing motorists down before reaching the school zone, not after.

Speed limit signs do exactly

Speed limit signs do exactly that.

Right. Because holding a

Right. Because holding a sign...THAT makes people slow down, just like only having speed limit signs does the trick.

The fear of getting a speeding ticket is what keeps down the reckless behaviour.

This woman shouldn't have been arrested for it. What the cops should have done was pull her over, and tell her "because you did that, we are going to move the speed trap to another location and are going to be twice as tough. So you will be responsible for all those extra tickets we hand out. Next time, let us do our jobs".

Or, they could say, "you know, there may have been someone speeding or texting behind you. And we may have caught him and fined him. And then the next time he is out driving, he is a little more cautious. But thanks to you, he escapes the fine. And maybe the next time he drives fast, or texts while he drives, or changes lanes hazardously, he gets into an accident and ends up causing multiple deaths. You would then bear responsibility for that."

Those who believe in liberty

Those who believe in liberty do not believe in preemptive punishment. Speeding, etc. should not be a crime unless someone is harmed. By arresting someone because they might cause harm in the future, you are opening the floodgates of tyranny and giving up on liberty.

The problem is, if you kill

The problem is, if you kill someone while driving recklessly, that person is dead.

Having preemtive punishments in place is supposed to drive that down.

I could also that that those who really believe in liberty do not believe in any laws. If you want to kill someone, kill them! If they have a problem with it, they will come after you!

By killing someone, you take

By killing someone, you take away a natural right. By "speeding", you take away no rights unless you harm someone.

Speeding is not necessarily reckless

driving. Many locations require slower speeds than the signs and many are ridiculously low to simply generate fines. It's a racket. Reckless people don't pay attention to them anyway.
I have no issue with speeders. I get over and let them pass. Maybe they have good reason. It's not my business.

do their jobs? you mean

do their jobs? you mean finance your slavery. Judge Napolitano and i agree that a crime wasn't comitted; i.e., there was no victim, so how could there be a crime.

lawrence

No, cops are supposed to

No, cops are supposed to manage traffic and identify reckless driving.

You realize, that if it was completely revenue based, that cops would be pulling over anyone that went over 60mph? Or every single day they'd have a cop watching the carpool lane...or they'd be pulling the "walking pedestrian" trick all the time. But they don't....

Like I said, she shouldn't have been arrested; read what I wrote. So no crime. But the cop would have been justified in pulling her over and explaining why what she did was dangerous.
