Power grid goes down for millions of Americans as Mother Nature reminds us all to get prepared

(NaturalNews) Mother Nature has a way of interrupting our lives with not-so-subtle reminders to pay attention to reality. Over the last 48 hours, a blistering heat wave has swept across nine U.S. states, causing the power grid to fail for millions of residents. Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has declared a state of emergency.

"Millions of people across nine states were reeling without power Saturday to deal with thermostat-popping temperatures after fierce thunderstorms pounded parts of the Midwest and Atlantic Seaboard," reports CNN.

The power is off for LACK OF MAINTENANCE AND NEGLECT.

The big power companies have learned how to use minor natural disasters to go to congress and get major grants for new infrastructure paid for by someone else.

This is now a pattern of deception that undermines national security while enriching those who are already charging us excessive rates for energy.

Welcome to America's version of a fascist state.

.

Speaking of Excessive Rates

Have you encountered the increased rates for "peak time" usage? Between 2pm and 8pm local the electric companies charge more for your electricity! Why? To discourage people from using their air conditioners. Which means they want the elderly and very young to die of heat exposure. Many elderly are living on social security, which means that they are always BROKE, so they don't run their air conditioners because they know they can't pay the higher rates. Then when they die the electric companies will charge the next of kin.
If the electric companies really cared about their customers they would REDUCE rates during the 'so called' peak times for the elderly, and they know who those people are.

It was a "Derecho": Land Hurricane

Something new in weather...(at least to me) a Derecho... (pronounced deh-RAY-cho)

"...According to the National Weather Service, a derecho is a gigantic wind storm coupled with thunderstorms. These are as powerful as tornadoes, but they don't twist; they drive in a straight line. They're described as land hurricanes because they have wind gusts of at least 58 miles per hour and higher...."

Small town MD.

Still without power. Been keeping the fridge going with a small generator.
Hot Hot Hot here too.
Everyone is back up with power except my small block. Huge tree took out allot.
House two doors down from me has power, but theirs comes in from the other direction. The guys worked out here over 14 hours until they ran out of materials to continue repairs. Said someone would be back today to continue, but I think that was just a feel good comment.
Unplugged the fridge and freezer to get on here and catch up with the DP.

I love my country
I am appalled by my government

no power in my small town either

Pepco said by friday...yikes!

I booked a room at the hilton near the airport on hotwire for 62 dollars a night. That heat was killing me.

Funny thing during the last

Funny thing during the last hurricane that hit Virginia last year. My power didnt go out at all. Before this it had gone out every single time we got hit by a large storm. Hasnt gone out at all since either. The power company said they had implemented new tech to help keep the power on, didnt expect that they actually meant it though. haha

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

I was raised in SE Texas

and never had A/C or a phone until I was an adult. Nowadays, whenever possible, I try to enjoy fresh air. Open a window (A/C recycles germs). Air Conditioning is only a century old and mankind made it that far without it. People need to quit being 21st century wimps. Man-up.

mankind hasn't routinely been

mankind hasn't routinely been around 105 degree weather since we were apes in africa

we were never apes in africa

that is propaganda...

if after watching this you still believe we started as apes, then i have no more comments.

as far as the power grid going down- i knew last night that "something" was going on... something big... and i cannot wait until it is made public!

thank goodness for RP so that we will have a starting point when the fake government is gone!

knowledge is power....................

Long Live ....

Air Conditioning !!

Seriously, I feel badly for those affected. Hopefully many can make it out to the beach for camping where it is cooler.

Virginia Beach is beautiful as I remember, take advantage of the summer ...and the scenery !!

Either that or migrate to the basements like the Portugese do lol

I got one of those battery operated Coleman hand held fans. It is good for a night if you don't mind getting new batteries for the next day.

donvino

I sympathize

We do have to remember however that it wasn't that long ago that there was no such thing as air conditioning!

You can get

solar powered chargers and rechargable batteries. As long as you have sunlight you can keep an extra set charged.

Thanks

I will look into the chargers and batteries.

I know that many do not want to hear this but....

There is NO "mother nature"
Sorry to burst any bubbles here!

How do fierce thunderstorms relate

How do fierce thunderstorms relate to blistering temperatures? Don't the thunderstorms have some kind of cooling effect?

Freedom is my Worship Word!

Latent heat of vaporization.

it is 970.3 BTU's per LB for water.
any other stupid questions wise guy?

The hurricaneish storms that ripped through md/dc

knocked out power for millions of people. Pepco has alerted me that I am not going to have power for a week, during record heat. Mother nature very quickly lets us know that we are at her whims. I have lived here my whole life and have never seen winds come through as high as they were last night. We are having a taste of what sh!t might look like when it hits the fan over here.

It was foretold what was coming! No one wanted to listen. He was banned for going to far. LoL! He , I was telling the truth. Now the cow eats the cabbage or we KILL the cow. It is the killing of the cow that saves HUMANITY. The Cabbage is what saves us.

History kills, or History saves. It is up to you. I am no longer BMWJIM, I am JIMR1150GS2.0

Life is just a circle if you don't freaking learn. I saved the seed. I saved the lead. I saved the silver in too much moderation. My dreams tell me 2012 is the NEXUS of all that is GOOD or ALL that is EVIL!

It's not just Mother Nature anymore

Governments are actively involved in modifying the weather on a large scale. Which means we are bound to have large scale consequences.

I have been thinking about posting a thread about A/C systems.

a LOT of people are getting seriously ripped off. the "new" "freon" is not new, Puron, R-410A. there is just a LOT of confusion in the general area of HVAC/R. should I?

Would be helpful!

Please do!

If we deny truth before your very eyes, then the rest of what we have to say,is of little consequence

It wouldn't

It wouldn't make any difference. On RP fora, you're preaching to the choir, and nobody else wants to hear the facts.

But go for it - you have nothing to lose!

Freedom is my Worship Word!

do you know that "freon" is not a substance?

it is a brand name. DuPont.
they are cleaning solvents for Christs sake!
and yes, I DO have something to lose, someone could get hurt if I don't word it correctly.
you must live up north where cooling is not a real issue.......
YOU are the type that irritates me. I bet you know ALL about how a cooling system works, I meet jerkoffs like you everyday.
A/C is getting so expensive for a reason. I am not nice to people like you anymore, go ahead, look down on me. after all, I am just a stupid parts changer, right?

Yes!

Put it in the Science and technology forum.

In other news, we had a not

In other news, we had a not so subtle reminder here in Southern Indiana. I was in Bedford for an errand, where I believe it was over 100, and the city water was on a 'boil order'. No drinking water from the tap. Combine that with the weather, and you had an utterly awful day. People were driving to stores in droves to buy bottled water and ice, moreso than any other day this year...

Edit:I shudder to think what would happen if the power was down at the same time as well. The boil order may have to go around more on word of mouth, and with lack of clean water and electronics to get 'cool' water, it could have been disastrous. It's times like these that I realize how utterly reliant most people are on society. It has, to no surprise, doubled my efforts to make myself live 'off the grid'.

I used to live in

I used to live in SouthernEastern Indiana and have friends going through your heat wave and drought. Now I live in Virginia and have family going through the heat wave and electricity failures. I'm saying my prayers. (Of course, God has already produced a miracle from the power outage by frustrating a phone banking meeting for Mitt Romney!! lololol.) Glad to hear from a fellow RP Hoosier!

Give ear to my prayer, O God...
