Disqualification flap mars RNC convention run-up

The Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., is about two months away and already some jockeying has begun to try to induce delegates to switch allegiance.

Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson is courting supporters of Republican candidate Ron Paul, hoping the shift in commitment will give his campaign momentum, U.S. News and World Report reported.

While libertarian-leaning Paul wants to influence the convention, set for Aug. 27-30, by collecting delegates during state conventions to be a force in Tampa, Johnson's goals are different. Johnson, who also sought to be this year's GOP presidential nominee, wants to make a strong showing in the November election.

Johnson has been granting media interviews to gain attention for his ideas and has bumped up his travel schedule.

He has also released a new video in which he urges Democrats and Republicans to back his candidacy.

"Take as many votes as possible away from the people in both parties keeping us in a state of perpetual war, increasing unsustainable debt, record joblessness, and a bipartisan economic death wish ruining America for 330 million of us," Johnson said in the video.

If...

If Gary Johnson was in the Republican debates - early on, how is it that he is running as a Libertarian?

Do not the 'sore loser' laws prevent this, or is it yet another law for some, but not others? Is this not the reason Dr. Paul will not run third party?

Regarding Palin: I believe we are watching in real time the rise of the third party, which will be controlled by the powers that be from its' inception.

IMO...If Ever There Was

...a candidate not in it to win it...it is Gary who left the Repub Party in order to do exactly what he is doing. Attempt to take the bite out of Ron Paul people who understand that the only route to liberty left to us is exactly what we are doing.

We are the crack in the Republican Party stronghold attempting to return it to its roots and better. The Libertarian Party was taken over some time ago to use as a tool. IMO, the intellectuals in it don't care as long as they can continue being intellectual and meanwhile the operatives within it along with dupes and sell-outs outside just follow the Koch CATO blueprint ... Elitist Crony-Corporatism for the overlords and the UN for us slaves.

There are no rules for TPB...who has the money makes the rules.

The GOP controlls the LP

The LP was created in 1972 for the conservatives who didn't find the war on drugs conservative. The LP is about as powerful as a fraternal orgainzation (actually My Grange has more members than the county LP), and the issues are selected and vetted by the GOP, who looks for potentail candidates, and when they can't find them, they install one from the GOP. This years it's GJs turn to give war on drug voters a voice and a choice, and best of all, to divide the rEVOLution so people will not focus on RP, but look to GJ as the second choice.. take the fight out of folks.
