Becoming a delegate... a different approach

Rather than the "in your face tactics" that some employ, I decided to try a different tact.

I went to my local GOP website and saw who was the local precinct chairperson, then called. I had a nice conversation and said I wanted to volunteer for something. I asked how things worked and mainly listened.

I mentioned how crazy everything was this year, but never really talked about specific candidates. It was very friendly. I was told that most of the jobs were already taken, but maybe I would be interested in being a county delegate...... I asked how that worked?? ;-)

I was even told who I should let know if I was interested in being a state delegate . (hmm me?)

Here's the bottom line, if we want to convert people, we must act like them and become part of the group. It is much easier than trying to out-shout everyone. Most people at the local level are regular people, who have many of the same concerns we do.

Seek first to listen and understand. No one will listen to you if you don't listen to them first! We need to become the friendliest people and stop being mad all the time. Life is not fair sometimes, but a smile gets more than anger.

If we don't like the machine, volunteer and then change from inside. Voluteer for the Lions Club, Rotary, Elks and local GOP.... ect. That may not sound as glamorus as Facebook, Meetup and Myspace, but that is were the power is. Money is power and the older generation has more of it.

The good news is that when one volunteers, there is a human side seen on the otherside that makes it easier to understand what motivates. If it is not understood, the best salesman in the world will fail.

Just a thought.
