I'm Farming and I Grow it!
Submitted by amitj78 on Fri, 07/06/2012 - 09:34Awesome parody video of LMFAO's "I'm Sexy and I Know it" song. These guys are great and spreading the word on the importance of agriculture in our society in a humorous way.

I have a number of raised beds, did the square foot system
It is turning out really well, but I think the square foot gardening system puts the plants way too close together. I did all organic using just compost and cow manure and its far exceeded my expectations. One thing I am planning for next year is an aquaponic setup. I plan on using the fish water to either irrigate the garden beds, or a pure aquaponic setup that recycles the water back to the fish. I have read about aquaponics but very few if any do it here in Mi, so I am a little reluctant to try it without some good advice as to how to set it up right. Thanks for the reply.
Get started with something, learn as you grow
Just get started with something, and you will learn invaluable information. And it's fun!
But look into permaculture before you get too invested in a particular way of doing things. Time, labor, and health saving techniques to be learned, for example at: permies.com

STAND WITH RAND 2016
Their little sister filmed it too
She was only 11, and she did a great job. Looks really good for an amateur video.

Polyculture > Monoculture
I empathize with farmers due to it being a hard life and an important function, but what was shown in the video is part of the problem. Mono-cropping leads to an abundance of specific pests, which leads to pesticide use, which kills off predators at a greater rate, only exacerbating the problem. Then there's fertilizer use and normal irrigation, leading to dead soil with all its minerals washed away, which is part of the reason people have more health problems than we used to -- nutrient and mineral deficiencies. Permaculture techniques are the way out of this "dead" end. End rant.
Kudos to the creators though.
No
disagreement here.
Our business has seen explosive growth in the aquaponics, and vertical gardening systems. They just opened a sustainability center here in Austin that we have a partnership in.
Part of regaining our freedom is breaking the grip of these companies like monsanto, and restoring these smaller farmer's market sub economies.
Unfortunately as long as most Americans can go to the supermarket and get their groceries cheaply and easily, then they wont ever care about the stranglehold that is currently in place. Some are waking up, but it seems much too slow a pace.
Fantastic!
Bump
woot woot for Farmers!!
and I'm NOT talking BigAgra farms - boooo! Save the family farms! Save Heirloom seeds! Tell Monsanto to go to h3ll with their suicide gmo seeds!

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--
I as well :P

try some brondo
its got electrolytes.
It's actually Brawndo
and it's what plants crave!

Won't that mess up the ecomony?
Drip emitters get too clogged with Brawndo ... I think it must be the electrolytes.
