Proposal: "Patriot Plank"
Republican Party 2012
At the Republican National Convention of 2012 we propose:
Whereas It is the responsibility of the Electoral College to vote and determine eligibility for office of both President and Vice President we ask the Electoral College of 2012 to verify the Constitutional legal qualifications to serve of each Presidential and Vice Presidential Candidate.
Please pass this commentary to as many American patriots as possible:
Article 2, Section 1 of the United States Constitution states " no Person except a natural born Citizen or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President ; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States. "
Few it seems realize that the Electoral College is a fourth branch of government, appearing once every four years, whose sole constitutional purpose and standing is to select the President and Vice President and certify their election and eligibility according to the above laws. The framers wanted non-government-citizens to make up the Electoral College to encourage independent thinking. Federalist Paper #68 explains the design of the Electoral College by the Constitution's framers:
" And they have excluded from eligibility to this trust, all those who from situation might be suspected of too great devotion to the President in office. No senator, representative, or other person holding a place of trust or profit under the United States, can be of the numbers of the electors. Thus without corrupting the body of the people, the immediate agents in the election will at least enter upon the task free from any sinister bias. Their transient existence, and their detached situation, already taken notice of, afford a satisfactory prospect of the their continuing so, to the conclusion of it... This end will be answered by committing the right of making it, not to any pre-established body, but to men chosen by the people for the special purpose, and at the particular conjuncture."
In other words to faithfully execute its functions, the Electoral College was to be insulated from the winds of political favor. This year for the 2012 election I am a presidential elector for one of the two major political parties. I am not beholden to any public office or elected official. My duty is to the American people.
In 2008, the Electoral College, which certainly has standing to do so, did not ask for birth certificates to verify both President, and Vice President eligibility. In consequence a national debate simmered over the last three years concerning President Obama's strange refusal to release a full form birth certificate bearing Hawaii's official seal to put his issue to rest. I view President Obama's position as one that should not have occurred in 2008, and should not be allowed to repeat, one for which the Constitution provides a remedy. A repeat failure by the Electoral College in 2012 to verify eligibility would make a mockery of government by constitutional law.
When called upon to discharge my constitutional duty, I will insist that all candidates for President and Vice President be required to provide a birth certificate that satisfies United States Constitutional requirements and that will stand up to strictest scrutiny. All controversy, debate, revelation, and court decisions prior to the election will not diminish the need for this requirement. Should a candidate fail to provide the information requested, I will execute a lawsuit based on elector status, and standing to gather such needed information. Past attempts to bring this issue before the Supreme Court have been dismissed, because of lack of standing, although it is not their policy to comment or advise.
I call on the electors of all parties in all fifty states to come forward and take their stand for truth by demanding the truth of each candidate. Our duty is to the American people to respect the Constitution. No Senator, Congressman or political candidate has standing to address this issue. These questions must be settled by the Electoral College this year and in all future presidential elections. This was part of the original intent and design of the Electoral College. The eyes of the nation turn to us on this one issue. Electors must start immediately with early, private, timely preparation, and legal counsel to defend the Constitution of the United States. As a body of government , equal in status to the Supreme Court in these matters, we will have standing before the nation, and the court. Truth will be the light by which the whole world will see that our flag still waves over the home of the brave, and the land of the free.
