Recently I reported, “To avert a possible catastrophe – this time set for February 2013 A dangerous asteroid heading to the Earth was spotted by stargazers three years after it had got onto its current orbit – scientists suggest confronting asteroid 2012 DA14 with either paint or big guns. The stickler is that time has long run out to build a spaceship to carry out the operation.” HOWEVER, a spaceship may not be necessary thanks to technology commissioned by none other than Iraq’s Saddam Hussein.

According to the Wikipedia

According to the Wikipedia article about the asteroid, "The asteroid will not impact the Earth on February 15, 2013."

If it actually does (the odds are 1:37E6; even the impossible has a probability according to quantum theory), it would release the equivalent of 2.4MT of TNT, but without the radiation effects, of course. This is slightly larger than an average hydrogen bomb, which means it's not a planet killer, just a city killer.

The US government already has very effective means sans spaceships to fight even planet killing asteroids. This is nothing to worry about.

That is the basis of Gurren Lagann and Getter Robo

Make the impossible possible.
