We have been lied to for decades. What can we do?

I have been speaking with my dad, he is 65, about how the media lies to us and that he should stop watching the propaganda. He said he knows, it has been this way for decades and told me to watch "Reefer Madness" which was filmed in the 30's. It is on Netflix, and YouTube. I couldn't make it through the whole movie, but WOW, I can't believe the BS they spewed then about marijuana and it's effects. Basically, the gist of it is that if you smoke pot, you start to laugh uncontrollably, then comes dangerous hallucinations, space expands and time slows down almost stands still, then comes monstrous extravagances, loss of power to control physical emotions, leading to acts of shocking violence and ending in incurable insanity.

Anyway, he is saying to me "what can be done, with something as big as this (the few elitist)? we have no control and haven't for 100 years." I feel like he has given up the fight against suppression and feels this is a no win situation. He is awake now, but feels helpless. What can I tell him? I don't want him to just conform, I want him to fight.

Just a little bit longer now

Here's some things you may not be aware of that could give your father a ray or two of hope. Under the premise of going local and stopping all interactions with the banking / media / global oligopoly complex, you can just know that the more they make illegal, the more independent and robust our new solutions will be.

For example, I don't worry so much about the SOPA/PIPA/ACTA game because I know of 4 really good and a few fairly good competing technologies that can come online in mere months to circumvent the existing internet. My favorite uses existing cell phones as hacked hot spots to supply wifi so we can all communicate through a mesh that's not controlled by ICANN, DNS or the telecommunication companies.

For example, I don't worry about the raw food / gardening crackdowns of late because I know of a few technologies soon to be available to everyone which makes home food better in every single way (from convenience to cost to health...) than getting it from a store. Other things are 'in the works' for things like meats and dairy but they won't have quite the benefit list.

Another example, I don't worry about the media lying to all of us everyday because I know people working on a system that will put them into the "oh, I remember those guys" category by bringing astounding new access to truth, archive, opinion and convenience to the masses.

Another example that I don't worry about is water because I know of systems that exist now for $1500 to make your own purified water (8 cents/gallon), systems that are under a year away that drop that to .4 cents and systems that are around 1 1/2 years away that purify ocean water for .002 pennies per gallon on a massive scale.

Other examples pretty much round out the list of what people need and most of what they want. I don't think more than 1% of them have any public awareness whatever at this time. Some require a little more time or money or both but they are all proven, done and in existence. They are just waiting to get going while staying away from that thing that allows banks and competitors to control them - debt. Make no mistake however, the next 3 years will be the greatest 'change' in all of human history.

As to what others can do? Promote the idea of local and get the good doctor elected. That will smooth out and speed up the transition.

Great ideas below

Another suggestion. Nicely print this Dylan Thomas poem on a piece of paper, draw illustrations around the edge - things that have meaning for you and/or your father, and post it on the refrigerator where he'll be sure to see it. Of course, given a reference to "old age," you'd have to let him know that he has NOT yet reached old age; it's a metaphor for it NEVER being too late to at least try to make a difference. (If you think he'd like the movie Dangerous Minds, there's a good message for all ages there related to this poem.)

Some Things The Gov't May Try To Impose Will Prove Unenforceable

There are many laws on the books that the government simply is unable to enforce. This was clearly stated in our Declaration of Independence:

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness... We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us."

It is my belief that because American's collectively have more personal firearms than any other country on earth, there will be anarchy before the government could ever think of possibly seizing control over the masses. They will have to find a way to get the people to give up guns before they try anything serious upon the majority of the people. Which of course, any attempts at this seen as serious would lead to intense civil unrest and quite possibly a civil type of war, whereas those who decide to carry out illegal, unconstitutional, inhumane orders given by the government, I'm sure will likely find a gun up their a$$, or in their face at some point when they decide to try to enforce their orders on the true patriots who won't back down and will insist on fighting to the death for the cause of liberty... I wonder how many of these types are left in this country?

More and more, it appears that people are just simply ignoring laws that make no sense. Also remember, if the government tries to take someone to court over a stupid law, a person has the right to use jury nullification.

At some point, people just start to ignore what the government demands if it starts to become too ridiculous, like nowadays for example. Many just simply find ways around the laws. For example on the Obamacare mandate. Some people may just decide to claim less income to avoid the penalty "tax". Like your dad, he knows what's up and he's known for a long time - he's not stupid. He'll listen to the fake news probably just to see the latest on what they are trying to shove down our throats.

Why have so many done the equivalent of kicking their TV's to the curb? Because they just don't want to even hear about it anymore, and many of those same people can care less about who gets elected because they plan on either not following or getting around the stupid laws anyway...

No matter how long it's been...

...that we have been lied to, one cannot deny that even in the 70's this country was so different. I would encourage you to have your Dad share as many stories of the past...the good stories of what some of our freedoms were like...to as many young people as he can. One must be hungry for freedom in order to fight for it. If you don't know what it is your missing...what can you fight for? Your Dad is much more valuable to the future than he realizes! He has experience and wisdom to share with others! Just in doing that alone, it will give him a new spark! Tell him we need him!

Your dad is right

Although I will never give in to the total control that is being forced upon us and I will never stop speaking the truth, I do not kid myself into thinking that the direction of this world is going to change. Even the enlightened followers of Dr Paul fail to accept the scope of deception that has taken place.

Yes your dad may be able to do more but do not judge him because if you make it to his age and see that nothing has changed for the better then you will have judged yourself.

We live in a society that was dreamed up long ago. We drive freeways, live in neighborhoods, work for corporations in cities and towns that were dreamed up and planned by men. For this reason we are forced to live under the authority of men and we cannot be rid of their authority unless we rid ourselves of their societal influences.

There is another way to be free but that requires acceptance of truth and the "Truth shall set you free".

I feel for you

when it comes to your Dad. My Father is the same way. He is 83 and while not a staunch Paul supporter like I am voted for him in the primary and general last time and did and will this time also. He is not an activist and will argue with me for the sake of arguing but still believes the same as I do.

I think he is saddened by what has happened to this country over his watch and is just waiting to die because there is nothing more he can do. It breaks my heart. I know I am also older and will fight until my last breath but probably will leave it to my children to continue on the fight and they will win. I do see some progress now but it will take decades to undo the century that has caused this.

It amazes me that the more they outlaw, the easier it is to obtain.

The point my dad made by having me see this film, was that propaganda has been going on here for a hundred years. We all know that smoking a joint doesn't make you go insane, nor does it make you turn into a cannibal that eats faces off. But this is now their reason for the guy in Florida who was shot eating the face of a homeless person.

Next will be the guns with this UN treaty.

...they still read the paper. But everyone knew it was 100% lies, that it was what the party and government wanted you to know. Therefore, the opposite was true!

I.e. you could still get the truth out of the newspaper, it's just the opposite of what was reported.

The USSR is a good study as to how this may progress

The people lost so much respect for their totalitarian government it became the brunt of jokes. One I remember is: Two Russians were standing in line to get their share of Vodka, the one said to the other "I am going to shoot Gorbachev" A few weeks later the same two found themselves standing once again in line together. So the one said, "I thought you were going to shoot Gorbachev" The response from his comrade was "I sure would have but the damn line was too long"

When these politicians continue to play the same games, like promise to give the people "free" stuff from the "government" rather than argue, boo, debate or in anyway take it serious, if the people start laughing and making jokes about them, you will know its near the end.

Help him make a small difference

in an area of his interest.

Lead by example. I'm in your dad's age range, and I've been hearing, "There's nothing we can do" all my life. You can't tell him; you have to show him. Work local. Pick an issue and go. he'll come around amd maybe help you in an agenda21 meeting or something.

Get out there and fight the good fight for Liberty, and when your dad asks why you bother, since nothing will change, tell him it's because you have to live with yourself.

I do fight the good fight

Everyday! Lots of people on DP know how much I do. I just don't know what he can do. He is a disabled vet, he does two things, doctors appointments and eats. He is a RP supporter, he just thinks there is no use anymore, and I feel like he is not setting a good example for his grandchildren by giving up.
Actually, he just responded to an email I sent him, Rachel Maddow's show from last night, basically saying you will only get info that the MSM wants you to know. He replied with "How can I help, is there a petition I can sign" Uggh, can you picture me pulling my hair out right now?

Being a disable vet, he could be having issues with

depression, a bit, maybe. I never doubted that you are out there doing whatever you can for our cause. I just thought if your father asked you why, that would be the answer that would strike a chord with him.

Is your father able to get out to the VA Hall and hang with other veterans at all? That might be something he could do. Just talking to others in his age group (and especially older) veterans about Dr. Paul's positions would go a long way in waking the older vets up and getting them to support our fight for Liberty. My husband is a lot older than your father and is a veteran, too. He knows the issues and agrees with Dr. Paul all the way. He cannot do a whole lot, but he got out there and did whatever he could to support our cause.

Don't know if you saw this a while back but, maybe you could send the link to your father. It might help you to get through to him.

For many people Leviathan is too big to

confront directly. But each of us can act locally to make a real difference: educating our neighbors, assisting local self sufficiency and resilience, community gardens and making sure urban chickens are legal, aiding in parent coop schools, sharing skills, etc.

And others of us are working day and night to

put in place systems that support all of your suggestions, making them virtually the only logical choice for people in the very near future.

Local everything will kill global everything if done on a large enough scale. Our goal is to multiply that scale. :)
