UPDATE: RNC in Tampa Does NOT Start Mon. Aug 27th. It Starts the Week Before! Guest Passes Needed to Watch Committee Meetings

UPDATE: It has just been brought to my attention that delegates and guests who want to attend the committee meetings in Tampa will need guest passes that will be issued to committee members.

Each committee member will have a certain number of committee guest passes for their constituents, and only those people will be allowed in to watch the committee proceedings.

Texas will have several people outside these rooms, and are currently working to secure some passes for some of our delegates who will be in Tampa the week prior to the actual convention to attend these highly important meetings.

ORIGINAL POST:

At the request of some fellow DPers, I'm making this a separate post.

I want to make sure everyone realizes that the convention does NOT start on Monday Aug 27th but rather the week prior with committee meetings. Here is the schedule from Republican Party of Texas Deputy Executive Director Chris Elam. I'm having trouble sourcing this information, but it came in a direct email from Chris. Here is the best confirmation I could find from an official source which confirms the date of the Platform Committee meeting.

From Chris Elam:

The week prior to the convention (August 19 to 25), the following events will take place:

- Platform Committee at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina (Sun. Aug. 19 to Tues. Aug. 21)
o Welcome Reception Sunday evening with meetings on Mon. and Tues.

- RNC Summer Meeting at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel & Marina (morning of Wed. Aug. 22 to Fri. Aug. 24)
o All RNC members should plan on arriving either Tues. evening or Wed. morning

- Convention Rules Committee at the Hyatt Regency Tampa (Thurs. Aug 23 to Sat. Aug. 25)
o Orientation on Thurs., meeting on Fri. and Sat. if necessary

- Credentials Committee at the Hyatt Regency Tampa (Thurs. Aug 23 to Sat. Aug. 25)
o Orientation on Thurs., meeting on Fri. and Sat. if necessary

- The week of convention, is the first meeting for the Permanent Organization Committee Permanent Organization Committee at the Tampa Bay Times Forum (Mon. Aug. 27)

Bump, share, and show up!

For anyone that is not familiar with the convention process, ALL the real work happens in committee. The actual general assembly at the convention is the ceremonial rubber stamp. In Texas we had a successful convention because our delegates flooded the temporary committees constantly and made them know we were watching. Most of them fell in line with 100 eyes on them watching and recording their every move. We had packed committees everyday. It is important to flood these meetings with well-mannered, well-dressed, knowledgeable, and rules people.....if they let us in. Our team from Texas will have people there. Will your state?

SERVICE + HEART, RobHino nailed it, that's

RobHino nailed it, that's exactly what we did in Texas, became of service to the Convention officials and fellow delegates, offering our assistance free o' charge anywhere we could even imagine it was needed -- especially during the committee business -- and simply speaking from the gut... and most importantly, from the heart.

I would say that rather than focus on slogans or taglines that mention the goldman sachs' candidate by name, keep the focus right on DR. PAUL, as he IS the FRONTRUNNER, and we have the opportunity to keep reminding people of that, people are smartening up. Merge this with a hearty dose of "NObama!"

.

* Paul gets it ALL

* Dr. Freedom

* The DOCTOR is IN to SAVE THIS COUNTRY (from Fake Conservatives & Obama)

* Emergency at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue -- THE DOCTOR'S IN THE HOUSE

.

these may be throwaway examples, but you catch my drift. Brainstorm this way.

T-shirts

What about a t-shirt that has both Obama and Romney on it with the O having the Obama O and then having the circle with the cross out over both. This would be indication that neither is the choice and would not lead people to believe that you are for Obama instead of Romney if you just featured him. Maybe on the other side have Yes to Ron Paul.

Good Find

I told you all to watch for cheating by them changing times for each convention event. I told you get there very early whatever the event is and to stay sober and eat good so you are in top cognitive shape.
And above all do not tell anyone or write down anything revealing your intended delegate vote. Wait until you are inside with camera's.

Keepin' it real.

This needs to be on the front page!

All delegates, committee people need to be in the know about this schedule. It sounds really important!

betty

just to clarify...

Most/all of these events are not for the general delegates. You have to be on one of the committees to participate.

My understanding is that...

My understanding is that credentialed delegates, alternates and guests can attend the committee meetings although only delegates and alternates can testify or participate. I'm trying to get clarification, and will confirm once I find out from a good source.

I can't beleive President Paul didn't mention

this in one of his recent video blogs from his back porch. I didn't know about the dates myself, but I'm not a delegate. I'm just 1 of the million or so patriots that will be in Tampa to support President Paul and become part of history. REAL History!

GO PRESIDENT PAUL. PEACE!

"if they let us in"

If not, why not have thousands of supporters outside, wearing T-shirts and signs that say:

"Romney = McCain Part 2"

"Just say NO to Romney" (with the "o" in Romney an ohmamma symbol)

I would do everything in my power to influence them to not vote for "Robme." I would not fall in line and support him no matter who asked.

It's highly....

It's highly unlikely that you'll be able to get a t-shirt like that anywhere near any of the facilities.

What people have to understand is that in 2008, there were Secret Service watching all our delegates, EVERYWHERE they went. This is not exaggerating. We have plans and volunteers in place in case any of our people get arrested, like who's going to bail them out and if they want to be bailed out or not (BTW, if you get arrested and plan on fighting your arrest, do not get bailed out. It'll make your case more solid. Of course if you're a delegate, you need to be on the floor to vote!). Some of our people had RP signs and t-shirts confiscated by Secret Service in 2008 and this wasn't even at the official hotel.

Yeah, if you can't wear an

Yeah, if you can't wear an Anti-Romney T-Shirt then wear one that says the following:

Cthulhu for President
Why Choose The Lesser Evil

:-)

Haha. That one had me laughing out loud.

Delegates

are one thing. Supporters are another. I hope there will be thousands of supporters that will be in all of the places that the "non-Paul" delegates will be. I think everywhere they go they should see something that makes them question what they are about to do.

I think that we need to make the "non-Paul" delegates think, before they act. Many of them seem soft on their support of Romnney already. What could help change their minds? That would be my goal.

Hey Jefferson!

I've followed your comments for several years as a lurker before I signed up here at the DP. You and Treg!

We had a meeting this past weekend to start initial training for our delegates and we tossed around a few ideas.

One was, "Mitt Ain't It".

I firmly believe if all our delegates and supporters keyed in on some catch phrase that told the right story to brand Mitt Romney as unelectable, as was done with RP, that we could cast some doubt.

That little bit of doubt is what will make people act I think.

I also believe people fear the unknown. And I made it a specific point at our meeting to address this concept, because you touch on it too, but in the way that I'm concerned about. You said, "I think everywhere they go they should see something that makes them question what they [RP supporters] are about to do?"

This is the same kind of mentality that was built up before our Texas Convention, that Ron Paul supporters are planning to take over the convention. There was so much gossip from the establishment type, and you could tell they were all nervous and defensive. We ended up doing the exact opposite. Not taking over, but helping out everywhere we could, getting involved, working with people, etc. Read about it.

So rather than the non-Paul delegates wondering what we're going to do, I think we should just be upfront, and tell them exactly what we want to do...that is work with them to nominate a real conservative, since Mitt Romney cannot beat Obama.

Maybe

I didn't communicate my idea properly.

When I state that I want the non-Paul delegates to "question what they're about to do," I mean that I want them to question THEMSELVES as to what they are about to do.

I want to create doubt in their minds that Romnney will win, (because I think he won't) and somehow show them the RP is the ONLY conservative choice.

I think we should brainstorm about signs, slogans and T-shirts that convey a very refined and powerful message. There shouldn't be a TV camera in Tampa that doesn't have someone with a sign (or T-shirt) in front of it saying something like "Mitt aint it," or something to that effect.

Ooops! Gotcha!

Yeah, that way makes sense too!

Here's a bump

It seems like this would be an excellent opportunity to try and reach the GOP. I hope people will develop a strategy for getting a message to them.

I still like the Nancy Reagan style "Just say NO" campaign against Romnney.

"Just say NO to Romney"

Bump!
