Judge Andrew Napolitano Praises Gary Johnson

The following is from a transcript of of an audio recording of Judge Andrew Naplitano's presentation at Freedom Fest in Las Vegas on Thursday (12 July 2012) afternoon. His presentation was entitled “A Government of Waste and Lawlessness.” Here are the comments he made regarding Libertarian Presidential nominee Gary Johnson:

34:30: “I’m going to really go off script for a minute. . . .

There’s really no script; there’s just a note telling me I’m talking too long.

(Laughter.)

There is a person in this room, who I must invite to the attention of everyone, because he has the courage to stand in front of the establishment and say, “Enough is enough!”

Whether he wins or loses in his latest quest to set you free, he is a figure of historical significance and profound contemporary interest. He was once called, “Governor No!” when he said to the legislature of his state, “You are not going to interfere with commercial transactions that are voluntarily entered into.”

Maybe . . . who knows . . . after this campaign, or the next one, he might be in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Former New Mexico Governor, whose sandal straps I am unworthy to fasten, who will speak here tomorrow (sic) at 10:30, Governor Gary Johnson.

(Gary stands, applause.)

That’s what we should be doing. Challenging the establishment, reminding them that there is a Constitution and a Declaration of Independence that put restrictions on the government.”

(Governor Johnson is speaking tomorrow — Saturday July 14th 2012, at 10:30 am — two days after Judge Napolitano’s remarks above.)

This is great news. Now former Governor Jesse Ventura and Judge Andrew Napolitano have commented favorable on Gary Johnson's campaign for President. The website is www.garyjohnson2012.com There is a moneybomb going on through Monday, 16 July to raise funds to buy advertising to help get Gary up to 15% in the national polls so he will be able to take part in the Presidential candidate debates. Your kind support will be much appreciated. Live free.

November 6th 2012 I voted for Dr.Ron Paul
"We must remember, elections are short-term efforts. Revolutions are long-term projects." ~ Ron Paul

Seems to me that you can.

Seems to me that you can.

Gary Johnson Isn't even a libertarian

And unless he read up a bit, changed his philosophy he won't be no mater how many times good old Ron Paul said he was. Not that I can imagine him saying that.

Till then Johnston's another non-libertarian offered up by the so called libertarain party. He's more of a Neo-liberal he couldn't name one "libertarian" author or book. Whist saying "I don't want to give the wrong answer" Pretty incredible, he can't even name a single book on libertarian thought.

http://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2012/06/how-libertarian... - Interview where at 22:20 Johnson cannot name a single libertarian author

If he knows the constitution he knows it wouldn't be his job as president to enter a war...

He hasn't read any Austrian economics weather he supports it or not he doesn't know a thing about free trade or real free markets or know what causes our economic bubbles, he thinks this recession was creation of the market NOT a government and Fed manipulation.

I'm not a no one but Paul, not outside the race for the nomination. Someone needs to fly our flag after Paul yes, we want this movement to last generations. Johnson just doesn't cut it for me.

"I'm a libertarian cause Ron Paul told me so" Come on man don't insult us even outside Dr. Paul's work MOST people on here are much more read up on libertarianism than Johnson apparently is. I don't know if I am a libertarian I lean that way but I have my own views, all I know is Johnson doesn't cut it for me.

At best the guys a protest vote... and I can think of some names I'd sooner write in before him, how about a few great authors?

You don't have to read to be

You don't have to read to be a libertarian. You simply have to THINK.

Ron Paul isn't a libertarian,

Ron Paul isn't a libertarian, nor a Constitutionalist except when it's convenient for him.

Johnson is a better libertarian.

Ron Paul

It took 20 Presidential terms

It took 20 Presidential terms to get us into this mess, it will take more than 4 years to get us out.

You can't do it without being somewhat pragmatic.

I do recall...

...Dr. Paul warning people in the debates that erecting a 'wall' to keep people out runs the risk of it becoming a wall to keep people in. I don't think you are representing his views accurately perhaps??

He has said that he wants to

He has said that he wants to bring home the military so we can concentrate on "protecting the border".

He also has stated loudly and quite incorrectly that immigration is a function of the federal government.

You can read about this in the Declaration of Independence. Also, Thomas Jefferson has some great quotes about immigration. And said that government should neither encourage, nor discourage immigration, but should welcome those that come here of their own volition.

Ron Paul actually tried to allow states to ban flag burning, saying that SCOTUS was "improperly" protecting our freedom of speech.

Ron Paul Tried to Allow States Rights!!! Are you kidding me!!

This unscrupulous following of the constitution is unacceptable!

The second amendment only applies to congress and the 10th guarantees states rights.

Maybe the constitution should be amended to protect all speech? but until then that's how its written and the federal government can't trample over the constitution as it's the U.S peoples only sanctuary from the invasive Federal government.

You don't understand the 14th

You don't understand the 14th Amendment then.

Why is Ron Paul allowed to throw out immigrants?

did Thomas Jefferson say anything

about the federal government forcing states to accept foreign invaders? did he have any thoughts on the federal government subsidizing foreign invaders through the use of force?

"The two weakest arguments for any issue on the House floor are moral and constitutional"
Ron Paul

Nope. But he sure didn't

Nope. But he sure didn't advocate anything like what Ron Paul advocates uparmoring the border.

ok hopefully this will pin folks down.

pretty simple question here, so please do not dodge!! i tried to summarize my question and folks still dodged it below!! I fully support Ron Paul and worked to sweep ron paul 100% in denver in my precinct and district with help of many ron paulers at the district level:)

Why dodge the question.
If Ron Paul is not the nominee. why are you going to vote obamney over Gary Johnson, that should stop the wiggle wiggle wiggle!!!:)

all i have seen so far is folks dodging the main question. please stop dodging or just say hey i will write in ron paul because they count write-ins in my state or i will write in ron paul and they will never count my vote in other states or I will vote obamney over gary. It really is not that complicated!! why all the dodging?

THANK YOU BIGT for answering my simple question. Now see if the rest can follow with actually answering the question. it is like dp dodge ball

Ron Paul 2016

If nothing comes of the delegate...

...strategy, I will go from there. Personally, and it is my belief from my own experience and what I have seen in this election cycle, I believe the voting is fake. Everyone else can choose to believe otherwise, but that's just me. I've seen enough BS going on for too long, and the only reason I will vote, is because it will give me a voice in speaking with others. That is the first question people will ask you when you talk politics with them, "well, did you vote". If you say no, they will refuse to even give you the time of day.

If Paul's strategy doesn't come through, I am wise enough to study the alternatives on my own. In 2008, I chose Chuck Baldwin. I didn't make that choice until Paul himself said he was OUT...completely.

In the primaries I took my sticker that says "my vote counts" and wrote on it to say "does my vote count?" and wore that everywhere! Was a cool way to get a few conversations going!

No matter how this turns out, let's respect each others choices. We are on the same side...we all need to remember that!=)

ok seriously folks, please explain why, instead of voting down

if your not going to write-in Ron Paul in states where they count them and then vote obamney!!! Then you must fear a Johnson/Paul Ticket. I really want to know why you would vote for Obamney over Ron paul or Gary Johnson. Are you suggesting folks do not vote? Or are you suggesting folks vote romney and why? or are you suggesting vote for ron paul in a state where they will not count write-ins and your vote will never be counted!

The only logical reason to vote gary down in comments or threads is you love obamney or your voting for Ron Paul in a state that does count legal write-ins! first reason not acceptable, second reason is reasonable and acceptable!

please folks help me help you pin this down now:)
what are you afraid of? saying you love romney? you love obama? Is it that hard to justify why your voting for obamney over ron paul or gary??? I have been totally honest here. I will vote Ron Paul if the gop gives me that option or i will vote Gary Johnson over obamney.

Ron Paul 2016

I will not vote for someone...

...who does not champion the protection of ALL our unalienable rights: Life and Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness (keeping fruits of labor). Gary's stances on abortion and drones/war make me think he does not share Dr. Paul's views that protection of all Life is foundational to Liberty.

You are not listening to the people below who keep telling you they will not vote Obamney. I will not vote Obamney either. You forget that Dr. Paul endorsed the Constitution Party candidate in 2008. Maybe he'll do the same this year? I think I'll be more inclined to support someone in that party than Gary Johnson. You didn't include that in your list of options.

options were open and ready

options were open and ready for folks to explain clearly! Thank you for your answer. I just wanted to know who folks are going to vote for if ron paul is not the gop nominee. folks were to busy attacking my idea of a Johnson/Paul ticket or arguing over ron paul vs gary which was not the question. I know there are plenty of 3rd party options. I want to hear what folks are doing.
I personally support Ron Paul and will be supporting Gary Johnson in the general to get him to 15% so he can be on the stage to debate and argue the liberty movement so we can move forward. I clearly will never support obamney. i have no issue with folks voting for ron paul in states that count the write-ins legally or folks voting 3rd party if the votes are actually counted.

many folks below did not answer the question i had actually! big t and you have, thank you. I will now arrow down to see if the others did! ps ron paul is not perfect nor is gary johnson but far better then status quo obmaney. We all have our reasons to support someone. I wanna hear who the anti-gary folks support if ron paul is not the nominee.

Ron Paul 2016

Being anti-abortion is not a

Being anti-abortion is not a libertarian position.

But if you're really a neo-con, vote for Romney. Problem solved.

The Constitution Party people don't have any clue about the Constititution.

According to the LP platform maybe,

but not according to logic.

I hold Dr. Paul's views...

...on the importance of protecting Life; evidently you do not. If that makes me not your pure libertarian then so be it. I never aspired to be given your stamp of approval. I'll stick with Dr. Paul, thank you.

That's ridiculous calling someone who is pro-Life like Dr. Paul a neo-con. :) Gary Johnson's foreign policy is closer to being neo-con than Dr. Paul's (mine as well).

BTW, there are a couple of

BTW, there are a couple of things.

1. I AM pro-life.

2. Both Gary Johnson and I believe that Roe v Wade was bad Constitutional decision making.

3. Gary Johnson has said that he will appoint justices that would most likely view Roe v Wade as something in need of being overturned.

4. His decision as a MAN is that he shouldn't be telling WOMEN what they should do, considering he will never have to make that decision.

5. Ron Paul himself couldn't end abortion without a minimum of 8 years of Presidency and probably not even then. It is a multi-generational battle.

6. Gary Johnson as governor signed laws ending late term abortions.

That's fine, but don't run

That's fine, but don't run around proclaiming to be a "liberty" person.

Ron Paul wants to enforce the borders like a good Neo-Con.

And he wants to jail you for burning the flag. Is that Neo-Con or what?

Your abrasive attitude...

...will not win hearts and minds to Liberty or to your libertarian subgroup. But maybe that's not really your goal?

So you're the only one

So you're the only one allowed to have an abrasive attitude?

I've found that people who are abrasive don't change their minds by engaging them intellectually. The abrasiveness is a defense against people who might try to persuade them with facts.

Fight fire with fire.

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty." - Thomas Jefferson
"Annoyance is step one of thinking"
"We're all in the same boat, it doesn't matter if you like me"

There was nothing abrasive...

...in my reply to SpeciallyBlend explaining how I might vote. You chime in calling me a neo-con because I'm pro-life and then insinuate that I'm not part of the Liberty movement because I agree with Dr. Paul's views (not through cult of personality, but through happening to align philosophically in that and most other areas.) :) That's ridiculous to make that leap of associating all pro-Life people with the neo-con label....and abrasive.

But yet you're the same type

But yet you're the same type of person that says that Johnson isn't good enough because he's not a "real" liberty candidate.

People are divided on the issue and it's hard to defend forcing women to give birth or jail them and then claim you're part of the liberty movement.

Society needs to grow up a whole lot more before we can get rid of abortion, so let's try to grow up first, shall we?

"Timid men prefer the calm of despotism to the tempestuous sea of liberty." - Thomas Jefferson
"Annoyance is step one of thinking"
"We're all in the same boat, it doesn't matter if you like me"

I didn't say...

...that GJ is 'not a real liberty candidate.' I just think there are BETTER Liberty candidates than him, who also value the unalienable right of Life in the way Dr. Paul, Judge Nap, etc. do. If you try to press forward with candidates who do not hold protection of Life as a priority, then the Liberty coalition Dr. Paul has enjoyed will suffer major fractures. You might not like it, but it is true.

Actually, though, you and I and Dr. Paul probably agree on first sending the abortion issue back to the States. Dr. Paul has mentioned that federal-level efforts are a good goal (for instance at the South Carolina Pro-Life forum this past January), but that allowing States to decide in the interim would save many lives in the meantime.

I don't think we should get

I don't think we should get divided on the issue. I can argue pro-life or pro-choice all day long and do, depending on who I want to annoy ;^)

I'll give you an example. My friend was past 40 and she decided to have ONE baby. Her first had Down's syndrome. So she aborted. Her second is perfectly healthy and a gorgeous 6 year old.

Had she had the first baby, she'd have never had the second.

So if you use birth control or even if you abstain from sex, you are denying human life. You're basically "pre-aborting" a child. The arguments both ways can be taken to the extremes of insanity and that's what happens. The further you take either argument, the more insane it gets.

But either way, we can't ban abortion in the US without starting a civil war. We have to grow as a society and a lot. Education is what it's going to take. Not a quick legal fix that causes society to blow up.
