WASHINGTON (AP) — Chairman Ben Bernanke could offer clues Tuesday about whether the Federal Reserve is poised to take another step to jolt the sluggish U.S. economy when he appears before Congress.
Bernanke will give his semiannual report to the Senate Banking Committee and to the House Financial Services Committee Wednesday. His testimony comes as job growth has slumped, manufacturing has weakened and consumers have grown more cautious about spending.

Investors are hoping Bernanke will signal another round of bond purchases is on the way. The purchases seek to push down long-term interest rates and encourage more borrowing and spending. The first two rounds triggered powerful rallies in the U.S. stock market.

The economy was already sputtering when the Fed's policymaking committee last met June 19-20. At that meeting, the Fed decided to extend a program that shifts its bond portfolio to try to lower long-term interest rates.

Theft by the Fed

The Fed runs a Ponzi scheme that hides a trillion dollars a year by the FRBNY handling of funds from the Treasury auctions that legally belongs to the US government. Ref. http://www.scribd.com/doc/48194264/rip-off-by-the-Federal-Re...

Is Bernanke sabotaging Obama?

Or has he finally realized that low interest rates are counter productive?

The only thing I can guess is that he has given up on driving bond prices up further, instead working to drive up the stock market to make people feel wealthier before the election. But such an effort to drive up the stock market would be kept secret out of necessity.

So if the stock market explodes and doubles before the election you can figure that his effort to get spending moving when people cash out of their stock market profits.

If the stock market doesn't move up or actually moves down, then I would say Bernanke has thrown in the towel to help the Republicans, and make Obama look even worse than he is, if that is possible.

"Bend over and grab your ankles" should be etched in stone at the entrance to every government building and every government office.

The closest I could find

was a text version. Still would like to find a video though.

The

Zionist Jew banksters strike again. Just like before 1913. They have returned with a vengeance. They want to destroy America just like they have destroyed Europe.

I've never seen

Bernanke look gaunt and besieged, his demeanor is usually "the cat that ate the canary". Questions from the committee are also the most pressing I remember of any Fed chair. Could Washington finally be answering the wake up call, here at the edge of the precipice? One would think the fed audit has a chance of passing without underhanded last minute changes.

I think as a back-up plan I could settle for RP as Fed Chairman

Though I am still holding out hope about the convention and I don't think Romney would have a prayer of beating Obama.

If Romney promised that he nominate Ron Paul I would consider at least voting for him (though I wouldn't donate even 1$ to the Romney campaign as I don't think he would follow through on the promise) or at least not actively trash trash him.

The Fed Chairman is the most powerful person in the world. This was stated by Ron Paul directly in End The Fed. With control over the money machine, RP might be able to indirectly stop the war machine without the presidency. He would also immediately stop the bailouts and audit the institution. Why couldn't he?

I would also enjoy reading Paul Krugman have daily conniptions with Paul at the Fed helm.

Fed is private

The Federal Reserve is a private company. They aren't going to allow an outsider to run their company. They choose a nominee, and POTUS presses the rubber stamp.

Replacing Timmy tax cheat Geithner at the Treasury would be extremely useful. The Treasury borrows the money from the Fed, runs the IRS, and also happens to have a mint for making coins.

I agree

Thought it wouldn't happen. This is like chess. Paul is a powerful asset and he has to be positioned well. VP would be pointless. But of course having Ron Paul in control of the federal reserve would kill Romneys presidency. No war with Iran, no bailouts for his big bankster buddies. But of course Romney or Obama's next four years will be dead anyways. It will finish off the two parties.

But I could support Ron in charge of the fed. Yes it is a very powerful position, more than VP ever would be. VP is powerless figure head post. You have these people screaming for him to be VP. I have been thinking about Ron Paul as head of the federal reserve. I like it.

Yeah if Paul was put in charge of the federal reserve I could vote for Romney then. But I wouldn't do it for Romney or the GOP. I would do it for the American people and because of Ron Paul.

Wish there was a way we could get this message to the GOP.

All I'm going to say is that

All I'm going to say is that I think having a Ron Paul in some kind of office is better than having a retired Ron Paul

I see a "retired" Ron Paul traveling from cost to coast

lighting brush-fires of liberty wherever he goes.

He may be more effective in that role than in some bureaucratic office in DC.

That is also another good idea

Ron Paul could run around on the outside and take potshots at everyone in DC. He could make their lives miserable if he was aggressive about it.

I See That As Well

...and that may well be why there is some unspent campaign money.

He may, in fact, be given GOP money to tour the country and bring in Republican votes....while really using the platform to spread the real message...the one that will enable us to have hope during the days of devastation to come. People will understand the history behind the devastation...as well as the future to work toward.

Most of these *freedom*...*liberty*..speakers on the circuit get $2,500 speaking fees plus expenses. A Dr. Paul would use such fees for one purpose only...to spread the REAL liberating message.

Whatever happens in Tampa...Dr. Ron Paul is not done! Ever!

It is a love fest.

We all want progress, but if you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive.

Congress: When did you learn about the LIBOR manipulation?

Bernanke: uhhh..i...uhhh.i learned uhhh. um the.. uhh.. when the media reported it.

Can't help being reminded of Eric Holder

We're so "lucky" to have a media that stays on top of things ;)

Is it just me or

is this the second time I heard Ben say our first goal is to do no harm. Either Ben is reading Mises or Ron Paul told him something during their breakfast.

Where is Ron Paul??

I don't see Ron. How did they manage to keep him off this committee.

ROLL TIDE

As previously posted by Michael Nystrom (See Below)

Ron Paul will be there tomorrow

its the senate commitee not

its the senate commitee not the house

my bad

Oh never mind I see the other post that says Paul will be there tomorrow.

ROLL TIDE

Bernanke's words don't match his body language.

Maybe it's just me but Ben appears to be shaking in his boots. His voice sounds so strained and almost quivering. He may be trying to convey confidence but I'm not convinced.

Thank You

Thank you for the thread. I am watching it live now.
