Families of Americans killed by drones file suit

The families of three U.S. citizens killed in drone strikes in Yemen last year, including militant cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, filed a lawsuit Wednesday that accuses top CIA and U.S. military officials of violating the constitutional rights of those killed.

The lawsuit, which was prepared in part by the American Civil Liberties Union, represents the most direct legal challenge yet to the Obama administration’s decision to kill U.S. citizens in counter-terrorism operations without open due process measures or scrutiny from courts.

Kudos to the ACLU. They got it right. And too many people

forget that al-Awlaki was an American citizen. And is due all the rights under our Constitution.

While we still have it.

Why the distinction?

5th amendment states: "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation."

The only qualification for the stated prohibition is being a PERSON. National origin is no excuse for murder. I know it seems "worse" somehow to many Americans, but I see no merit to that view. Any human being has just as much right to his life regardless of citizenship. I know you are not saying it would be fine otherwise, but I think that distinction is common and baseless, so I wanted to point it out.

Don't let Muslims immigrate to the US, problem solved.

You're not paying attention

Ugh! Quite disgusting. Have you not noticed the steady shift from the government boogeyman being the Muslim extremist to the domestic extremist? Have you not read the Missouri Information Analysis Center report from 2009 declaring Ron Paul and Chuck Baldwin as linked to domestic extremists?

Please rethink your premises on what the war on terror is truly about. It's not about protecting us from Muslims, but about power and control. If you disagree, present a logical argument.

Wasn't that already tried with the Catholics?

In 1642, the Colony of Virginia enacted a law prohibiting Catholic settlers. Five years later, a similar statute was enacted by the Massachusetts Bay Colony.

Very ignorant statement

It shows you lack a historical perspective.

There was a time when America was looked at as a great place by the average Muslim. This of course was before we started killing hundreds of thousands of them, before we started covert wars trying to pick who would lead their countries and so on. You see, much like many of the original settlers who came here to escape religious persecution, many Muslim's came here to escape to a place where they could be Muslim - but in a manner of their own choosing.

Trial

I'd give it a 1% chance of reaching a trial. This crap never reaches trial because the Administration classifies the evidence top secret, far above the security clearance of the opposing lawyers, their clients, or the jury.

The US Justice system is a

The US Justice system is a joke

Lets Hope Americans Aren't Stupid

Hopefully people realize the ACLU is defending due process and not terrorism. I feel like Americans lost their critical thinking ability. And Bill O'Reily will get on the tv and act outraaged the ACLU is defending this guy and everyone will eat up the spoonfed opinions.

That's Why....

That's why Bill O' The Clown makes the big bucks. Up to about 10 million a year now I think for his hard work and service to the American people.

Yeh

like when he gave that kid who's dad died in the WTC all that grief. If you see that interview it will make you want to shoot Bill in the face. The audacity of the MSM to use the pain of a the victims families as justification for war - yet silence those very victims who do not agree with the war.

Insane.

Excellent post!

Excellent post!
