In response to Eric Holder's assertion that, "We have no rights to possess guns," USA Today has a poll:

Oh so it is not USA TODAY

I think the constitution was as good today as it was in 2007.

This poll has been making the

This poll has been making the rounds in chain emails for years.

It appears that this poll is

My right to defend myself

Does not come from any govenment nor a constitution. They will make this declaration and that, but who will enforce these dictates?

poorly worded question

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 2nd Amendment doesn't "give individuals the right to bear arms"...

Rather, it affirms the fact that we already have that right, right?

Voted "yes" regardless, assuming that this poll was "dumbed down" for general consumption.

yeah, but if you vote no they will take it as meaning only state

militias have a right to arms.

Integrity means having to say things that people don't want to hear & especially to say things that the regime doesnt want to hear -RonPaul

The problem is the damn

The problem is the damn questions, because I SHOULD be voted NO that the 2nd Amendment gives ANYONE a "right" to bear arms, because it does NOT!!

Again, the 2nd AMENDMENT gives no one the right to bear arms.

This is the biggest problem in this country that people think you have constitutional rights.

The constitution gives NO ONE rights. It PROTECTS rights. That's it. It is applied to GOVERNMENT, not to the people. If you think the Constitution gives you rights, then if it is taken away you no longer have any rights. Horse crap! We have NATURAL rights and the constitution is there for the government t PROTECT those rights. That's it...

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

Oh, really?

"The constitution gives NO ONE rights. It PROTECTS rights."

How's that working out for us? I kindly encourage people to reconsider whether the constitution can actually protect your freedoms. All I ask is for people to think about the following questions: Can a piece of paper outlining the roles of a criminal gang actually keep it in check? What if once they have the moral legitimacy of "statehood," they decide they want to play by their own rules? What if that's doomed to happen any time you set up a limited government? Are these reasonable questions to ask?

My bad...that's actually Luke 12:47.

You are talking about

You are talking about something completely different. I was merely pointing out the PURPOSE of the Constitution, which is a contract.

Every contract has to be enforced by someone. If your premise is that the Constitution does nothing and we should just all take actions whenever and wherever we feel like it when there is a dispute, then that is a different conversation.

If you disagree with me on anything you are not a real libertarian...

Thanks for the response

...and sorry it took so long to respond. I haven't been on DP for a while.

I don't think the constitution does much at all. But I don't see how that would lead you to the next part where you wrote "we should just all take actions whenever and wherever we feel like it when there is a dispute". How does my lack of faith in parchment produce chaos?

Yes

It's a sneaky poll. You'd have to vote "No" if you understand anything about the Constitution. The right of the people shall not be infringed.

Exactly

Constitution is only a written set of rules to protect my individual birth rights. I seek not your permission and I respect your power, yet my final answer is still NO! False Compounding National debts used to justify any and every type of immoral act. Make claims of debt is you must but when you start pushing me around to collect we got a huge problem.

Point Well Made!

Absolutely correct, thanks for pointing out a very, very important distinction, one I should have caught. I know better and did not stop to analyze. Thank you!

I wonder if Holder will be as forthcoming as you in pointing this out?
