Bloomberg: Consider banning semiautomatic weapons

By David Hill - The Washington Times

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg repeated his calls Monday for a national discussion of gun laws in the wake of last week's mass shooting in Colorado.

Mr. Bloomberg, an independent, said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" that he thinks the country needs to consider a new ban on semiautomatic weapons and find better ways to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill.

He also challenged President Obama and presumptive Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to clarify their stances on gun control, and deflected criticism from officials who say it is too soon after the shooting to discuss its legal and political ramifications.

"People say it's bad politics to address the issue, but I think they're wrong," Mr. Bloomberg said. "You ask one of the families, 'Is this the time to focus on how to keep other children from getting killed?' " I think they'd be on the side of do it now."

Is truly a pathetic individual following a truly pathetic agenda. There are so many bad things to say about him and his schemes that I will not even bother to go into details.

Mayor Bloomberg: Consider This:

...In the seconds it takes, for a crime to be committed......

...The Police...... are minutes away.

As a reminder:

NYers haven't forgotten this.

"Beyond the blackened skyline, beyond the smoky rain, dreams never turned to ashes up until.........
...Everything CHANGED !!

My solution...

start banning the weapons that do the most killing, such as, Nuclear warheads, nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers, war planes, attack helicopters, tanks, armoured vehicles, etc., etc., then stop all future funding of laser and sound weapons as well as direct energy weapons (*cough* 9/11) and so on.

Once that's all done, and if society is still completely effed up, then try going after civilian gun ownership. Trying to solve this problem by only looking at the small picture rather than the bigger picture, is like blaming the middle class for loosing their homes because they should have known that the banking system is corrupt.... wait, isn't that what they actually tried to do???

I'd love it if we could, but...

...it's not feasible. Ultra-heavy weaponry is necessary (well, aside from nukes) due to the fact that everyone else has ultra-heavy weaponry. The world is basically a perpetual arms race, and if a big, juicy country falls too far behind... well, you know what happens. There will *always* be tyrants with modern weapons, so the only thing we can really do is try to restore our freedom and protect it with similar weapons. Tanks, battleships, lasers, etc. are not inherently evil; the only weapon I can think of that IS inherently evil is the nuclear bomb, as its only purpose is to blow civilians apart. Even napalm, as brutal as it is, can be directed solely against hostile troops.

Wishful thinking

“directed energy weapons”…

Like TV remotes and garage door openers?

You got the tv remote right.

You got the tv remote right. Its a weapon of mass deception.

To climb the mountain, you must believe you can.

Lol close

WOW!....Nice Handgun Dawson..

Thanks for the link...

most people think "semi-automatic" means uzi

that you can just hold down the trigger.

but you have to pull the trigger for every shot.

is my understanding correct that bloomberg wants you to have to use a revolver and cock the hammer back between every shot?

The shooter could have instead driven a truck into

a crowded sidewalk.

Are we going to ban motor vehicles?

The reality is that when you plan for something months in advance you will probably find a way to get the hardware you think you need.

Ban vehicles? That's ridiculous

Just make everyone go through a body scanner every time they use the sidewalk. Because that'll make more sense.

if you ban it for the rest of the world too, including our own

police and military

miss the incident of police recently shooting at protesters?

fuking idiots

I can't believe they still support gun control

There is no way they can pass enough laws to protect people, it won't work. If a few people there would have had their own guns the outcome would have been different.

This guy is a moron.

Really, Bloomberg? You might as well say, "Hey, armed Americans! Join your local militia, 'cause I'm gonna start a civil war!"

Yes Bloomberg is a moron

Just a little aside, but you don't "join a militia" If you are of a certain age range (usually like 15-60) and capable of bearing arms then you ARE the militia. It is the definition of militia, and is why the 2nd amendment is worded the way it is i.e. militia is not a group, it is a group of individuals. There are no collective rights, only the collected right of individuals. The founders meant for this nation to have a very small (if any) professional military, and police did not yet exist as they do today. Law enforcement fell under a sheriff who was expected to deputize the militia as necessary to apprehend civil criminals. The military would be reinforced by calling up militia. To be ready and trained and to respond to such a call is considered a responsibility a all free persons capable of doing so. As usual we lose this argument because the left changed the definition of the word, and as usual we're not even arguing the correct point.

I try to keep that in mind, but it's easy to fall right back into the modern definition of "militia" in a discussion.
