Did you get a thank you from the Romney campaign for a donation you did not make?
Submitted by blonduxo on Mon, 07/23/2012 - 20:40I did. I have been trying to find out how that could have happened.
I received this email 06/29/12:
My name,
Everyone donates for a different reason. And whatever your reason, your donation of $25 has helped our campaign get this far.
Now let's take it to the next step.
Will you match your donation? Help us build a winning campaign for Mitt by donating $25 today:

Thanks for your support,
Spencer Zwick
National Finance Chairman
I responded the same day: YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR FRIGGIN' MIND IF YOU THINK THAT I WOULD EVER DONATE TO THE ROMNEY CAMPAIGN.
PLEASE REMOVE ME FROM THIS MAILING LIST AND FORM SNAIL MAIL LISTS. HOW MANY FORESTS MUST DIE?
Last week on 07/11/12 I called the FEC at 202 694-1000 to customer service. I spoke with a very helpful young woman who advised that the FEC was only concerned with accurate reporting of donations and not with someone perhaps using someone else's name to make a donation. They would only be exercised if there was a reporting inaccuracy and they would have to wait until next quarter to determine if the reporting was inaccurate. And further, since it was less than $200 it would not be recorded as an individual donation but would be bundled so as to make it invisible or unable to be determined as to who made the donation. She recommended that I contact the Treasurer of both committees. She kindly gave me the contact info for the RNC and much to her surprise the information for the Romney Treasurer was left blank on her forms. How odd! A call to the RNC last week at 1 857 288 6400 revealed that no, per a Mr. Ned, my donations to them (The RNC, the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and the National Republican Congressional Committee nominal though they were) were not diverted to the Romney campaign. I called her back and she found a number for the Romney campaign 1 857 288 3500 (unusually similar to the RNCs phone number) which I called and left a message. No response. I called today 07/23/12 and left another message.
Today, as well, I checked the donation page for Romney and noted this disclaimer:
Contributions to Romney Victory, Inc. (“RV”) are not tax deductible for federal income tax purposes. RV is a joint fundraising committee composed of Romney for President, Inc. (“RFP”), the Republican National Committee (“RNC”), the official Republican Parties in four states (the Idaho Republican Party, the Massachusetts Republican Party, the Oklahoma Leadership Council, and the Vermont Republican Federal Election Committee), the National Republican Senatorial Committee, and the National Republican Congressional Committee. Proceeds shall be allocated by the following formula:
Individuals and non-multicandidate PACs - The first $2,500 will go to RFP’s primary account. The next $2,500 will go to RFP’s general account. The next $30,800 will go to the RNC. The remaining amount will be split evenly among the federal accounts of the Republican Parties of Idaho, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and Vermont, up to a maximum of $10,000 per committee.
Multicandidate PACs - The first $5,000 will go to RFP’s primary account. The next $5,000 will go to RFP’s general account. The next $15,000 will go to the RNC. The remaining amount will be split evenly among the federal accounts of the Republican Parties of Idaho, Massachusetts, Oklahoma, and Vermont, up to a maximum of $5,000 per committee.
Notwithstanding this allocation formula, a contributor may designate a contribution for a specific participant or participants. In addition, the allocation formula may change if any contribution would exceed applicable contribution limits. Contributions from corporations, labor unions, federal contractors, and foreign nationals are prohibited. Federal law requires us to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation, and name of employer of each contributor whose contributions aggregate in excess of $200 in a calendar year (RNC and state parties) or election cycle (RFP)
Has anyone else had this fraud perpetrated upon them? They very well could be stealing our names and using God only knows whose money to finance the Romney campaign!

You think that's strange!?
We received a Romney ad/ask for donation mail a few weeks ago. It was in the name of my spouses grandfather who passed away 23 years ago and we have only lived at our present address for a few years! Get that!?
Obama mails me.
I put a penny in the envelope and sent it.
