That's pretty clear

They don't care about the law. Any questions?

Gee, shocking.

Next step will be arresting

Next step will be arresting people for "crimes" before they commit them. An "amazing" algorithm will be able to determine your intent or something. I don't think big brother is prophetic it is an inevitable result of the general direction of progress. Believing that freedom is the result of control leads to the conclusion that absolute freedom is a result of absolute control.

I was surprised

So, who are we waiting

for, Joe Sixpack? The novelist is saying it's a good beach read, and hopes we learn something. Are we planning to wake up about the time the new NSA facility comes on line? Shouldn't the Congressmen who approved the funding be arrested and tried? How does a 2 billion facility designed to violate the 4th amendment, suddenly become a "concern"? If we don't put these people in jail, are honest people of good will going to find themselves in jail?

Nice!

Wow.

It is all falling in to place one piece at a time. The big picture...police state.

"Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters." Benjamin Franklin

The good news is that they

The good news is that they will cave in from extending themselves so thin as RP likes to remind us, and they can't possibly keep track of that much info all at once.

Yes and no.

The piece counters your point exactly. In fact it is this very issue of efficiency that is being addressed even now. As was stated by the guests themselves the NSA is actively working on automated programs that would remove the very need for manual searches. This would free up a lot of agents to do even more dirty work. Not to mention the algorithms that will help identify individuals that meet what ever characteristics are specified. They don't need to track the entire mass of data when they can use highly sophisticated and effective filters to catch only what is desired. I don't mean to be impolite but I must say that it is this kind of "wishful" thinking that has allowed so much to happen that is detrimental to our freedoms. The complete instatement of a police state has been coming in steady, unceasing steps of a tyrannical march. 9/11 perhaps offering the greatest opportunity for great leaps towards total control of the people. And let's not forget the gruesome reality that if there are too many folks to fully suppress and enslave, then a reduction in numbers is a viable option.

If, however, you mean that the overextension of themselves is one of a financial nature then I wholeheartedly agree. As I have stated elsewhere, when you have lots of food on the table you have lots of problems. When there is no food on the table, you have one problem. - Old Chinese Proverb say.

Then again, as I muse amidst the typing, I wonder if a financial crisis on a global scale would only help to further the globalist agenda. In any case it all reeks of Orwellian boot stomping. Not to mention the simple fact that actions already taken by the NSA are a violation of our rights already. And where is the outcry? Thus the water gets a bit warmer and the frogs supposes that the bubbles only mean that the pot has gas.

In short, this good news is only bad news made to appear as a slightly better alternative in the light of the absolute nightmare.

Some of us have known this for a long time

And typically, plenty of people laughed at it.

"Would never happen here" "That's paranoid"

What is it going to take?

Hmmm...

what is going to take? For many, a curfew and some heavy armor rolling in the neighborhoods with halogen lamps, microwave emitters and a 50 cal.

Others, a black bag and some zip ties in the middle of the night.

You and I, about fifty news stories ago.
