Calling DP Lawyers: Questions about Federal Workers and CCWSubmitted by Ranger_Will on Wed, 07/25/2012 - 19:04
As a federal employee working inside a federal building I'm still not clear as to what employees are allowed in terms of Concealed Carry Weapons.
It has always been my understanding that you cannot have a firearm inside any federal facility.
Be aware that I handle large amounts of cash each day and as the economy continues to worsen I can only wonder how long it will be until a bad guy from the local area (which falls below the poverty line) will put one and one together. We are also very often harassed by some extremely irate tea-cons that see me as nothing more than some pawn of King Obama (clearly the don't know me). I've been yelled at about everything from taxation, to Agenda 21, even the REQUIRED photo of the POTUS on display.
Adding to this, we recently had to go through the process of laying off a terrible former co-worker, an ex-Marine (no disrespect to our brave military guys) that believed he'd been injected with nano-machines during Gulf War I...definitely out there. He would often yell at people about very simple things such as cups accidentally placed within his "zone," about "all those things" we said "behind his back," etc. One gal in particular is convinced he'll come marching in some day with a shotgun and kill her.
I've discussed these issues with my fellow employees and there is a growing concern with them about this as well. One already has a CCW permit for the state in question and keeps their weapon in their vehicle throughout the day...not a bad idea really. However, it would take crucial minutes to run out to the car, remove the gun, and then bring it back inside (if that would even be legal) to neutralize the threat in question.
As things stand currently I carry a knife on my belt (which I'm not really trained to use), but would feel much more secure truly armed.
Thanks in advance to all you wonderful people here on the DP!
P.S. I should note that I am NOT a federal peace officer and do not already carry a service gun. Also, the state is Virginia.
