Rahm Emanuel’s dangerous free speech attack

Should government officials be able to block businesses from opening or expanding due to disagreement with the political views of the business’ executives? Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel evidently believes he should have this power:

The anti-gay views openly espoused by the president of a fast food chain specializing in chicken sandwiches have run afoul of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and a local alderman, who are determined to block Chick-fil-A from expanding in Chicago.

“Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values. They’re not respectful of our residents, our neighbors and our family members. And if you’re gonna be part of the Chicago community, you should reflect Chicago values,” Emanuel said Wednesday.

“What the CEO has said as it relates to gay marriage and gay couples is not what I believe, but more importantly, it’s not what the people of Chicago believe. We just passed legislation as it relates to civil union and my goal and my hope … is that we now move on recognizing gay marriage. I do not believe that the CEO’s comments … reflects who we are as a city.”

Both Parties Did It

Of course the neo cons did the same thing blocking muslims so it's rather funny to hear they crying about it.

It's never ok to block a business based on religious views be it christian, muslim, or any other religion. Just shows how messed up the two parties are once again.

Anyway time will tell. If a business wants to put their views in an open forum the consumer can vote with their wallets.

Rahm cares so much about jobs...

So much, that he'll try and destroy a company with over 1600 restaurants in 39 states, over 600 corporate employees, and Lord knows how many service workers, JUST because he doesn't like the personal opinion of one of the executives.

I never liked that delicious chicken sandwich anyway.

Go get em Rahm.

Chicago values - homicide

Since coming into office 13 months ago, Emanuel has been shouldered with a soaring murder rate. As crime overall has dropped in the city and across the nation, Chicago already has had 275 murders this year, according to CBS News.

Perhaps Mayor Emanuel should pay more attention to the homicide rate and less to which private businesses should be allowed to operate in his city.

soon as I saw Salon.com in the link, I KNEW it had to be

Glenn Greenwald!

Glenn, as an openly gay man, if anything one may understand even if he did not take such a principled stance. but nope, these are the moments where Glenn's principled integrity and consistency in adherence and respect for the Bill of Rights, shines through and through!

Thank GOD Glenn can still impart his wisdom through the ever oBUSHma-sycophantic post-GWB liberal 'alternative' MSM!

Glenn's one of the few truly brilliant people who write blogs in which he makes a point to answer his detractors in the comment section, rather in-depth, consistently! Gotta love a writer who's not afraid of criticisms. But even more commendable, he respects his audience enough to actually hold dialog with his haters.

P.S. LOL! for all the liberal eco nazis ranting about the corportist a-holes at BP, the first paid 'pop-slide' banner ad at Salon.com was from BP!

wonder how many liberals know that the faketarian Koch Bros are one of the biggest underwriters for PBS... not to mention, along with rest of BigOil.

their hypocrisy knows no bounds.
