Gary Johnson plans first Media Buy (please donate)Submitted by legalizeliberty on Fri, 07/27/2012 - 12:12
The campaign for Libertarian Party Presidential candidate Gary Johnson announced it was planning to make its first major media buy of the 2012 election. The former 2-term New Mexico Governor has been frantically raising money this past week to pay for it. So far, contributions have been flooding in. But a spokesman for the campaign says they’re still $35,000 short and need to raise it by Monday.
In an email to supporters from Johnson campaign senior advisor Ron Nielson, he explains, “In the next very few weeks, the Republican and Democrat-controlled debate commission will be deciding whether Governor Johnson will have a podium on national television alongside Mitt Romney and Barack Obama.”
According to the rules established by the Commission on Presidential Debates, a candidate for President will only be allowed to participate in the nationally televised debates if he or she satisfies all of the following criteria:
•Candidate must be Constitutionally eligible.
•Candidate must appear on a sufficient number of state ballots to have a mathematical chance of winning a majority vote in the Electoral College.
•Candidate must have a level of support of at least 15% of the national electorate as determined by five selected national public opinion polling organizations.
