Sounds Like Rob Portman, (R-OH) is NOT down with S.202

First post. I've been a lurker for a few years, but this reply from Senator Portman made me need to join. He thinks the "independence" of the Fed is "critical." Ohio folks, let the man know what you think.

Received this in response to my query regarding S.202 with Rob Portman's office. Actually got a better reception speaking with the folks in Sherrod Brown's (D-OH) office--although I don't think either of these guys would support S.202.

Email below.

Dear Timothy,

Thank you for contacting me to express your views about auditing the Federal Reserve. It is good to hear from you.

As you may know, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2011 (S.202) was introduced in the Senate in January of 2011 and was referred to the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. The legislation would enact an audit of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System and of the Federal Reserve banks, followed by a detailed report to the Congress.

The Federal Reserve is an independent agency that formulates our nation's monetary policy, manages and regulates banks, and provides a patchwork of financial services to certain financial institutions and the federal government. However, the extraordinary actions in response to the recent financial crisis and the lack of transparency in the Federal Reserve's monetary policy continue to invite scrutiny.

While I believe the political independence of the Federal Reserve's monetary policy formulation is critical, I recognize that the recent extraordinary interventions by the Fed raise legitimate concerns. Though I am not a member of the Banking Committee, I will certainly be mindful of your concerns should the bill come before the full Senate for a vote.

Thanks again for taking the time to contact my office. For more information, I encourage you to visit my website at www.portman.senate.gov. Please keep in touch.

At Least You Got A Response

. . .I didn't get a response from either one of them - or Reid.

Hmm - must have been something I wrote? ;)

It's just a form letter. . .I have enough of those already.

Im from ohio as well

I have contacted Portman as well but havent got a response. I emailed him after contacting Steven C. LaTourette, I believe his term is up soon and if he doesnt vote on this bill he will have to be dismissed indefinitely. I explained that in the email as well and also he always has this pitch line that hes for ohioans. Well sir as an ohioan I am requesting you do your job for ohioans not yourself interests. As you know guys he thinks he will be vp for romney which I dont think he has a chance either does romney.

I am surprised that you are

surprised by the NeoCon Rob Portman's behavior. Didn't you know that Rob Portman is a proxy for the Bush family? Portman is also a tool for AIPAC and of the very highest order.

I hope in four years we can send Rob back to the private sector....he is a very very bad man, but, he is not a stupid man. Portman seems very mild mannered and rational...that is an act...he is a hard core force for tyranny...Don't be fooled!

Just Like Liberal Sen. Voinovich - Sen. Portman is a RINO

Why else woudl Portman be in contention for the VP slot of the "presumptive" GOP Presidential candidate Romney?

I called Portman's office shortly after the passage of the Audit Bill in the House and his assistant did not know Sen. portman's stance at the time.

Here is a peak at who Sen. Portman is beholden to....I mean his campaign contributors. http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/summary.php?cid=N0000...

Sen. Portman, the Fed has never been an independent agency,

it has always been a government sponsored monopoly.

If you want the Fed to be independent, repeal the legal tender laws and pass Ron Paul's Competition in Currency Act.

Give the Fed true independence to succeed or fail in the market.

What a zinger!

Perfect response. Send this refute back to him.
