That was actually really bad

I like his message. But the ad is low budget and does little to compliment the audio. It drags on.

However... The "one time" line is pretty powerful and just might work to capture a piece of the establishment fringe.

Explain to me...

how any liberty minded candidate could be against the message put forth by this ad.

The ad simply make the case that Gary Johnson has a much more liberty minded plan than either Romney or Obama. Can anyone argue that Romney or Obama is better on liberty than Johnson?

Most of those down-voting this thread do so only because they wish to keep the liberty movement splintered.

The R's and D's realize that Ron Paul has awoken ~20% of the electorate. These people are up in the air. As time goes on, it is becoming more and more apparent that these people don't like Romney OR Obama.

The only remaining strategy for the power brokers to pursue is to try and divide the movement and smear its vote over several different places - Romney & write-ins - and hope to hell that the Movement doesn't coalesce behind Gary Johnson.

If they do, Gary Johnson automatically has 20% of the electorate PLUS disenchanted D's and R's.

So Daily Paulites I ask again, who has motive to defame Gary Johnson?

I explain below and will explain again

Johnson's focus isn't on the principles that need to be understood if the liberty movement is to be viable in the long term. He only discusses policy issues, not big, all-important ideas....If his principles aren't sound he can be led, and will lead others, astray.

That's the original problem with the parties we already have. They have no principles. Just a bunch of nice rhetoric and endless policy suggestions to get themselves elected and reelected... Johnson isn't really breaking up this pattern here, is he?

Can 10-15% more be woke up by November?

It only takes 34% (minimum) to win an election. Think we can wake up another 10-15% by November?

I didn't watch the ad before but

now that I did, it is complete crap. This guy is nuts. His appeal runs: I will do x, and I will do x, and I will do x...He doesn't say the system is failed and immoral, and the people who have to suffer under it need to take control and responsibility....he says, let me make everything all right, you poor backward voter; just elect me and you can go back to sleep while I bring peace and prosperity.

The plea at the end sounds like a geek trying to appeal to good-looking female: Go out with me one time. Come on, your popular, studly boyfriends cheat on you. I'd never be like that. I mean, I know I'm weird, but you've got be getting pretty desperate by now. Just one time. I'll treat you right, you'll see.

But then, I could be wrong. It could be that he would ease people into libertarian thinking, after which they will gradually become full-blown Rothbardian anarchists, or at least halfway sane about the role of government...I just see that as a long shot. More likely, since he doesn't cite principles, only surface-level, practical arguments, he will compromise and compromise until his libertarianism is just another form of statism, and everyone will believe that is wht libertarianism is.

Under that scenario, it could be ultimately worse if Johnson was elected than if we get one of the other bags of shit in office.

Nice commercial... but

he will devote 4 years winning the war on drugs?

How are you going to do that Gary?

Reagan

He had the best Ad ever in 1984 imo.

ie. Its Morning in America.

No high tech needed and it was the best.

Wouldn't it be great to have

Wouldn't it be great to have a liberty President be able to show that same commercial after his first 4 years?

Amazing ad!

Just kidding. Gary Johnson's a dud.

We need to wake people up through bold action and loud statements of principle, not be limited by the controlled system and the political party paradigm.

When Gary Johnson comes out and says your whole system is garbage, your foreign policy, your welfare state, your big brother state....when he says let's trash it all and get back to basics....when he steps up, pissed off and defiant, and throws down the gauntlet, calls these people killers and thieves, I will become interested in him, and so will many others.

As it stands, he's just some drab guy with alternate policy suggestions.

...

youre absolutely right.
GJ wants to tweak the symptoms but ignores the diseases.

Paul is challenging the delegates and is about to make a move.
all he needs is IN, and hes won. Its very close and I think we would be amazed at whats going on behind the curtain.

anyway

GJ is more of the same we are fighting against. Hes a red herring.
and his campaign is in massive debt, sheeple do not know what a disaterous the "debt effect" has on a campaign. Cant secure credit and cant pay for any venues. but instead will mooch off of others venues. People mooch off Pauls name all the time. Then trash it when theyre thru

The goal is to attrace

The goal is to attrace people, not scare them off.

This has been an issue with Ron Paul. He occasionally says things that are true but scare people.

If you're an angry political junkie, it's nothing, but for Ma and Pa Jones, it just doesn't come across well.

We'll see how it goes, but I think the ONLY way you can sell libertarianism is with a soft touch.

Otherwise, it comes across as scary As it is, Johnson is taking a huge risk by saying he will submit a budget that is 43% lower than what we have now. Why? Because if we ACTUALLY did that, we'd start a mass recession. He is doing it because it grabs people's attention and shows his conviction to cut the government. But he also quickly adds that Congress will never go along with it.

Anger doesn't win elections.

Ignoring the pro/anti Johnson Issue

for the moment, where did you learn economics? You really think that cutting the budget by 43% would cause a recession? Like when spending was cut 60% after WWII? It seems to me we have a neo-Keynesian among us.

In a small private school.

In a small private school. You?

WWII was a special case. There was a 4 year period of pent up demand. People couldn't buy cars or appliances or any of those things because they simply weren't being built. So the drop in government spending was instantly replaced by a 4 year boom created by a massive need for new homes, new appliances, new cars, etc.

I'm not a Keynesian. That is a slur used against anyone who recognizes that you can't lay off millions of unproductive bureaucrats if there are no jobs for them to do.

True economists aren't Austrian or Keynesian or any of those things. They look at cause and effect. Keynesian ideas are simply a tool set for fixing certain problems. If there is a recession and there is no demand due to lack of employment, then it is certainly possible to borrow your way out of a recession, as long as you create new jobs and paychecks that have a multiplying effect (hardly possible with everything being built in China) and that have secondary benefits (faster, more efficient roads, development of the internet).

And, yes, if we suddenly cut spending by 43%, it would create a huge implosion in the job market, both privte and public, raise unemployment to painful levels and generally cause a whole lot of pain with secondary issues such as MORE people losing their homes and more ripple effect.

Fortunately, that won't happen, Congress won't allow it, even though we do need to so something.

What I would prefer to see is a Federal hiring freeze. No replacement of personnel. Let the private industry pick up the slack. And freeze spending in all agencies, ensure that all savings from the hiring freeze are fed back into the system in order to reduce the deficit. Continue this for approximately 15 years and we will have zero debt without the inevitable recession a 43% cut would cause.

My goodness, $1.6T is the direct equivalent of about 40,000,000 jobs. You'd seriously just toss those out the window and think it wouldn't cause a recession?

"Annoyance is step one of thinking"

I would not be eliminating $1.6 T of wealth

I would simply be removing it from political control and transferring control of this wealth to the market. The reduction of the burden of political control of this wealth would stimulate the economy, and growth would result.

While there could be a recession caused by reducing inflation and increasing interest rates after many years of the opposite, this recession would happen inevitably when market actors wised up to actual conditions. The difference between experiencing this now and later is that if done now, the recession would not be as severe or long lasting as if it were done later.

Actually, no, because the

Actually, no, because the money is being borrowed, so we will simply borrow less and the $1.6T will come directly out of the economy in lost contracts and lost jobs.

Now, some may be recouped, a tiny portion of which could be recouped by reduced regulation or enforcement, but I wouldn't count on it.

Yes, it would spare the cost of repaying it later, but in the meantime, there would be a massive hole blown out of the side of the economy, which certainly would be bad right about now. Borrowing is the only thing keeping the economy going, which is just sad.

We could sell off a lot of government property to help make up the differences, however. A massive bake sale so that we could ease the transition and pay the bills.

Who cares?

He was done when he started.

"Johnson asserted that he could win the race if he could raise $50 million – a fraction of what President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney have raised already."

Hell will freeze over before Johnson even dreams to raise a tenth of that.
He should just go back to climbing rocks or smoking his bong or whatever it is he does.

He has no discretion and is an arrogant fool for asking for Pauls blessing and then stealing most of Pauls key points and acting like they are his and making statements that he is the only one with these ideas ignoring Paul.

Ron Paul stole Thomas Jefferson's key points. There is no copyright on the truth.

Johnson has been espousing these things since the 90s, back when Ron Paul wasn't even in office.

Johnson is more of a social libertarian

Social libertarians tend to fall into full blown anarchy easier.
Ron Paul is a fuseisim or libertarian republican.
They see people as individuals and they believe in free markets. They follow the Austrian school on economics whitch means no FED at all. They believe in defense and the sovernty of the states. Liberty is the main goal and that leads to prosperity. Private property and private business ownership.

Gary Johnson's libertarian leaning will result in a break down of states rights. Social libertarians have a strain of Marxist and communist schools of thinking and still follow the fiat system to a certin extent. They still believe in free markets but they don't believe in any kind of monolopys because any corporation that starts to centralized any kind of authority is bad thus getting rid of private ownership of large corporations. Big business become owned by states and the public

After researching Gary Johnson no thanks
It's Berry Goldwater , Ron Paul constitunial liberation all the way for me.
End The Fed

Also, he really is NOT a

Also, he really is NOT a social libertarian, he is more of a common sense/pragmatic libertarian.

He came to it through running a business and governing. Having to deal with legislation/taxation and having to balance budgets and run a state. No better foundation than that, not even "fancy book learnin'"

Well, you can argue all of

Well, you can argue all of that in theory, but the fact is that any libertarian minded anyone is a step in the right direction and it would take decades to wean Americans and the economy off government. So I'm less worried about the style in which it happens and more worried about someone that will have an effect AND show it works, thereby having people begging for more.

Gary Johnson can absolutely do that. He has a 60% approval rating going into his second election.

I'd rather see Paul

I'd rather see Paul as president. People will get to confused and mix Johnson's views as Paul's views.
It is true any form of libertarian is better then what we have now but a lot of people are still to dumb to be able to separate the 2 views. The world I not ready yet for a full blown libertarian society. The school systems have seen to that for sure. Paul's views a so much more pure and maybe One day we can live in a pure authoritarian free society without borders and without war. I'm still rooting for Paul.

I sense some

coat-tail riding.

I don't know of anyone who has stuck their neck out for priniciple more than Ron Paul. No compromise.
