Harvard Study Finds Fluoride Lowers IQ - Published in Federal Gov't Journal

NEW YORK, July 24, 2012

Harvard University researchers' review of fluoride/brain studies concludes "our results support the possibility of adverse effects of fluoride exposures on children's neurodevelopment." It was published online July 20 in Environmental Health Perspectives, a US National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences' journal (1), reports the NYS Coalition Opposed to Fluoridation, Inc. (NYSCOF)

"The children in high fluoride areas had significantly lower IQ than those who lived in low fluoride areas," write Choi et al.

Further, the EPA says fluoride is a chemical "with substantial evidence of developmental neurotoxicity."

Fluoride (fluosilicic acid) is added to US water supplies at approximately 1 part per million attempting to reduce tooth decay.

Water was the only fluoride source in the studies reviewed and was based on high water fluoride levels. However, they point out research by Ding (2011) suggested that low water fluoride levels had significant negative associations with children's intelligence.

Choi et al. write, "Although fluoride may cause neurotoxicity in animal models and acute fluoride poisoning causes neurotoxicity in adults, very little is known of its effects on children's neurodevelopment. They recommend more brain/fluoride research on children and at individual-level doses.

"It's senseless to keep subjecting our children to this ongoing fluoridation experiment to satisfy the political agenda of special-interest groups," says attorney Paul Beeber, NYSCOF President. "Even if fluoridation reduced cavities, is tooth health more important than brain health? It's time to put politics aside and stop artificial fluoridation everywhere," says Beeber.

After reviewing fluoride toxicological data, the NRC reported in 2006, "It's apparent that fluorides have the ability to interfere with the functions of the brain."

Choi's team writes, "Fluoride readily crosses the placenta. Fluoride exposure to the developing brain, which is much more susceptible to injury caused by toxicants than is the mature brain, may possibly lead to damage of a permanent nature."

Fluoride accumulates in the body. Even low doses are harmful to babies, the thyroid, kidney patients and heavy water-drinkers. There are even doubts about fluoridation's effectiveness (2). New York City Legislation is pending to stop fluoridation. Many communities have already stopped.

Infant formula when mixed with fluoridated water delivers 100-200 times more fluoride than breastmilk. (3)

More information on fluoride's impact on the brain is here.

I spent about $275 on a

I spent about $275 on a fluoride filter. Why should I have to pay to protect my family from actions taken by the city council?
I'm thinking of suing them personally, not the city, for the cost.

I don't know of any filters

that get rid of fluoride. I thought the only 2 things you could do is reverse osmosis, or distillation.

i have

A berkey system with the black berkey filters on top and PF-2s on the bottom, they are supposed to get out flouride.

Money talks...

Either the actions of money speak louder than the words the spenders are using ("we're bombing for peace!"); or, the threat of financial trauma leads to the criminals listening and correcting their behavior. Either way, money can speak for us.

I posted, this past week, that I was going to talk to my local DPW. I haven't done this yet, and it's now a weekend. Monday. If we fluoridate, I will work towards stopping it. This would include first asking them nicely; then suing them individually. The DPW workers who are dumping toxic chemicals in our water supply are just as guilty as the workers under Hitler who were "just following orders," and we should be just as able to bring them to justice as in the Nuremberg trials.

If we're unable to (I remember reading, but cannot find in 5 minutes of searching, that there was a law passed circa 2003 that removed our ability to sue municipal water supplies for their additives), then I recall that great Kennedy quote (of course, look how it turned out for him...).

I love you. I'm sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.

Seriously.. Why should we

Seriously.. Why should we have to pay to get the toxic waste crap out of our water? We should be suing, that seems to be the only thing city governments understand.

a very simple suit to recover damages

1. purchase a water filtration system ( note that whole-house system is the only way to protect against exposure during hot showers )
2. send a bill to the local government water department head - be sure to bill for your time too...
3. if they don't pay, send a final 30 days notice with additional fees for the new time you spend and notice that lawyers fees will be added as they are incurred, plus additional late charges

note: do NOT create a class-action suit
note: do NOT enter into arguments about the toxicity of fluoride as this will become a never-ending nightmare of your scientists versus their scientist ... your government has no right to force you to take "tooth medicine" against your will, they do NOT have a license to practice medicine NOR are they carefully monitoring dosage and response as required of any practitioner who administers any medicine, and they FAIL to do proper "due diligence" by testing every single shipment of water additives before dumping it into your drinking water.

Harvard: This is not the first study w/ such a conclusion

Neurotoxity of Sodium Fluoride in Rats, Dr. Phyllis Mullenix, Harvard University, published in Neurotoxicology Journal, 1995

On October 24, 1996 Dr. Phyllis Mullenix spoke about fluoride at Clark University in Worchester, Massachusetts. She was a Harvard University Professor.

For more information on fluoride and water fluoridation visit the website www.MaeBrussell.com. Go to the "Articles, excerpts, and notes" section.

      Medication to stupefy rats by.

During the 1990’s, research conducted by Harvard toxicologist Phillis Mullenix showed that fluoride in water may lead to lower IQ’s, and produced symptoms in rats strongly resembling attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Just days before her research was accepted for publication, Mullenix was fired as the head of toxicology at the Forsyth Dental Center in Boston. Then her application for a grant to continue her fluoride and central nervous system research was turned down by the US National Institute of Health (NIH), when an NIH panel told her that "fluoride does not have central nervous system effects"(Griffiths 1998) http://www.mdjunction.com/forums/anxiety-disorders-discussio...

What kind of toothpaste

what kind of toothpaste do you use without fluoride?

You should also avoid

You should also avoid glycerin in your toothpastes which most all toothpastes, including flouride free, contain. The glycerin, according to some critics, coats the teeth and inhibits the saliva's natural remineralization effects. One should also take k2(mk-4) suppliments and/or get it from natural sources as well as supplimenting with FCLO. More info can be found in Ramiel Nagel's book http://www.amazon.com/Cure-Tooth-Decay-Cavities-Nutrition/dp... based on the teachings of Weston Price.

My son's first adult teeth recently came in without enamel and I am trying this protocol on him. I just started a week ago and I think I am seeing a positive effect. If we are successful in reversing his enamel hypoplasia and strengthening his teech with this protocol, I will make a main post because this is a fascinating topic I think many here on DP will be interested in.

You could just go bareback.

You could just go bareback. In fact studies have shown that brushing w/o toothpaste gets teeth cleaner. http://nydailynews.healthology.com/dental-health/dental-heal...

Bert's Bees

is a great tasting fluoride free toothpaste. trouble is only a few places sell it, but you can easily find it online.

My wife uses. Toms of Maine tooth paste

Toothpaste w/out fluoride

I use one from Tropical Traditions that uses coconut oil and some other things. Coconut has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties. There are actually quite a few toothpastes without fluoride. They are usually online or in healthfood type stores.

If you really want to help your teeth this is the best thing it involves eating right. Your teeth are made of minerals and eating a certain way demineralizes them. If you eat right you can remineralize them.

I belive

a brand called Tom's Toothpaste is made with all natural ingredients and of course, no fluoride.

Tom's was gobbled up by Colgate® . Colgate added fluoride.

Tom's® was gobbled up by Colgate® . Colgate added fluoride. http://www.tellinitlikeitis.net/2011/08/no-fluoride-toothpas...

One very popular brand of fluoride free toothpaste is Tom’s of Maine. While Tom’s of Maine does offer no fluoride toothpaste (Check label), the company sold out 84% of their company to the major toothpaste company Colgate-Palmolive in 2006 for a million dollars cash. By the way, Burt’s Bees® is now owned by Clorox®, so just because a company purports itself to be small, natural, personal and environmentally conscious doesn’t mean much once they’ve sold out to big corporations...

American Dental Association: Stop promoting the fluoridation of public drinking water

link: https://www.change.org/petitions/american-dental-association...

I strongly oppose water fluoridation

But I question the validity of this study. Any epidemiological dealing with IQ (a tough and controversial criteria to measure begin with) and fluoride exposure is going to be flawed to a certain extent. I wasn't able to find access to the actual published research (which I will definitely read in detail) but it seems to me this is on the weak side. Interesting, but weak.

Personally I think the ethical approach to ending public water fluoridation is superior to the scientific case. Mass medicating the public through the water supply is the epitome of unethical. That should be the end of the debate. It is a shame we even have to conduct these difficult epidemiology studies to find a link between fluoride exposure in the public water supply and neurodevelopment in order to stop this unethical practice.

What does this have to do with getting delegates

to Tampa or with Ron Paul?

Why does the moderators on this site waste space on the front page for something like this?

Are the moderators going to post studies for everything that's harmful? There's a long list. How about sugar? They put that in kids' school lunches.

Oh! I should have known. It's because Alex Jones thinks Flouride is part of a New World Order conspiracy for mind control, right? And somehow the Elites weren't able to prevent this study from being leaked out of the control grid. I almost forgot this site was taken over by the Jones movement.

Give us a break

This incessant whining doesn't get delegates to Tampa either.

Was it just another chance to use your division card?

if you keep drinking that stuff

... you'll become so stupid you won't be able to find Tampa on a map let alone vote properly. I reduced my fluoride exposure and roughly 4 months later I noticed my mind was sharper. I know of many other anecdotal observations similar to my experience including several accounts of improved dreams, sharper thinking and better mental clarity. "Brain fog" is a documented effect of both fluoride and bromide exposure. Have you noticed any "brain fog" amongst Americans lately? I sure have ...

How have you reduced your flouride exposure?

Would you please share the ways you are reducing your consumption of flouride?

It seems high time this was addressed at local levels in government.

the history of fluoridation

Properties of fluorine

Fluorine, a yellow gas (18), is the most electronegative and the most reactive chemical element. It reacts with nearly all organic and inorganic materials, even with gold and platinum. Hydrogen and fluorine react with explosive violence. With water, fluorine forms hydrofluoric acid and ozone. A jet of fluorine from a pressure container reacts with human flesh and can cause extremely severe burns that are very difficult to heal. Mechanisms of tissue destruction include destructive oxidation by fluorine, thermal damage from the heat of reaction, and tissue poisoning by HF formed. "HF is formed by the reaction of fluorine with moisture on the skin. HF is a protoplasmic poison with great penetrating power and causes deep-seated burns that heal very slowly." Even the salts of fluorine ("fluorides") which collect on the inside of pipes, valves and other equipment are extremely dangerous when inhaled or ingested, therefore "every precaution should be taken to avoid breathing or swallowing them" (19).

Fluoride kills neurons...

Fluoride is a neural toxin. It affects not only brain function but also can affect reproduction as well.

In short, it should HAVE NEVER been added to the water supply. It does not make teeth stronger.

The NAZI's used fluoride to sterilize parts of the population. It also gives a "dumbed down" effect too which is another reason the Nazi's used it. Makes it easier to control a population by making them more docile than not.

Here's an interesting article on it:

In short, fluoride IS A POISON, and is a poison at ANY level. Just depends how much damage it will do based on how much exposure you receive through your lovely local water system if you have city water. The idiots who put this crap in the water HAVE NO CLUE about the dangers of it. They "do as their told" and think that those of us who know how dangerous it is to fluoridate the water are the nut cases.

There is no minimum daily requirement. Less fluoride is better.

When measuring fluoride consumption, zero is best.

☠ Fluoride ☠ is toxic waste from industry. Its toxicity is between lead & arsenic.

Keep perspective

Here's the abstract. http://ehp03.niehs.nih.gov/article/fetchArticle.action?artic...
"Results: The standardized weighted mean difference in IQ score between exposed and reference populations was -0.45 (95% CI -0.56 to -0.35) using a random-effects model. "
So we're talking about less than a 1/2 point drop on a IQ scale that has a mean of 100. In an observational nonrandomized study, I think it'd be a mistake to draw too much evidence of harm from this result.

Those are standardized mean differences

The difference between groups is 0.45 standard deviations, not 0.45 iq points. There's about an order of magnitude difference there.
