LASPAC: Gary Johnson gets 19% in nationwide poll

The Libertarian Action Super PAC (LASPAC) sent the appeal below:

We just conducted a nationwide telephone poll of registered voters. Here’s what the poll sounded like:

http://youtu.be/N0LWYdp4vP8

The results:
Barack Obama 56%
Gary Johnson 19%
Undecided/neither 25%

You may be thinking, “Why does that matter, since it doesn’t include the Republican?”

Here’s why it matters:

Gallup has been conducting presidential polls just like this:
http://www.gallup.com/pol...

Note the wording of their question:
“Suppose the presidential election were held today. If Barack Obama were the Democratic Party’s candidate and Mitt Romney were the Republican Party’s candidate, who would you vote for, Barack Obama, the Democrat or Mitt Romney, the Republican?”

It includes the incumbent, Obama, plus one selected challenger, Romney — and no one else.

Disagree..

You are conflating Gary Johnson with Obama.

But Obama was never a Governor. He had no track-record at all, so everyone who supported him was just projecting something in him, based upon his words, and his words alone. Obama was just an empty-suit then, and today he is the King with no clothes -- who brought about no change, and no reform.

But Gary Johnson has a real record. You don't have to analyze his words here. Just look up the many reforms, and innovations he brought about as Governor. Having a Presidental candidate with a solid record as Governor, and with an actual reform record, is a pretty rare thing these days. So that is very different, and I say, let's support him.

Gary Johnson endorsed Ron

Gary Johnson endorsed Ron Paul in 2008 and he told his supporters to vote for Ron Paul in the GOP primaries/caucuses this year. It's a complete joke to think Gary Johnson is just another Bob Barr. Not a chance in hell I'll be voting for Obamney this November.

He endorsed him for his own benefit

Did you read my post? Google Bob Barr. Bob Barr endorsed RP at CPAC. Then he took the LP nomination while RP was still in the picture. Same sequence of events as GJ this year. And just like Bob Barr, GJ is no real libertarian.

GJ =! BB

Gary Johnson is no Bob Barr. Gary Johnson is half Democrat and half Republican. He's with us when it matters, though he doesn't fully understand Libertarian philosophy he does realize that it's the Libertarian camp he falls most into. Gary Johnson is a far better pick than Bob Barr, but he's still a "practical Libertarian" pick. Ron Paul, on the other hand, is more an "ideologically pure Libertarian" pick. Gary Johnson is practical about what he can and cannot do, though he screws up most often on the issues of states' rights.

He's a significantly better choice than Virgil Goode or Mitt Romney or Barack Obama. He has a mathematical chance of winning the presidency. Given the opportunity to debate Obama & the GOP nominee, he'll siphon off enough votes to give the Libertarian party a fighting chance in 2014 & beyond.

Sigh."Gary Johnson is no Bob

Sigh.

"Gary Johnson is no Bob Barr. Gary Johnson is half Democrat and half Republican. He's with us when it matters, though he doesn't fully understand Libertarian philosophy he does realize that it's the Libertarian camp he falls most into."

What does that even mean? He doesn't "understand" libertarian philosophy? [BTW, please make your "L" lowercase as he certainly *does* understand what it takes to run as a Libertarian Party candidate]. Isn't it "kinda" important to understand the philosophy that you're supposedly passionate about? If you don't understand it, you can't really be knowledgeably passionate about it. And if you can't provide the necessary logic/knowledge when questioned about it, you can be easily swayed towards completely different perspectives.

Or are you fine with politicians telling you what you want to hear, then doing something different once in office?

"He has a mathematical chance of winning the presidency. Given the opportunity to debate Obama & the GOP nominee, he'll siphon off enough votes to give the Libertarian party a fighting chance in 2014 & beyond."

No he doesn't. Don't fool yourself. My wife, who is not as obsessed as I when it comes to these matters, but holds her own when arguing libertarian principles, hasn't a clue as to the existence of Gary Johnson. The *only* people who have any clue as to who GJ is are ardent RP supporters. And only a percentage of them will be interested in voting for RP vs writing in RP's name or simply staying home. And if *all* of them wrote in RP's name (instead of some of them defecting to Gary Johnson), RP *still* wouldn't get more than 10% of the vote. So why even bother with a pseudo-libertarian like Gary Johnson?

Hello, If the Libertarian

Hello, If the Libertarian Party gets 5% in November it would allow them on the a lot of states ballot automatic in 2013,14,15,and 2016! It would be great if this happen for the parties future. In the more other states it hard for minor parties to even get on the ballot to run. Like in my state of Pennsylvania we need to get at least 500% more signatures the Republicans and Democrats to get on the ballot in November. For example this year the R and D needed 3000 we need 20601. It differs from year to year and it is based on 2% of the most votes in the last statewide election. Also if the Libertarian Party would get 5% in Nov. we would get federal funding (that they ask you when you want to give to the presidential fund when you do your taxes.)

So there is a lot of reasons to vote for Gary Johnson in Nov. I do support Ron Paul he is the one that woke me up too the message of liberty, and also during that awaking I ran 3 times for office as the Libertarian candidate. I am not going to waste my vote on a write-in in Nov. if RP does not get the Nod.

Say what you want about

Say what you want about Johnson, but no harm can come from having a man who currently preaches the ideals of liberty to speak against Obomney on the stage. It doesn't matter if you want to vote for him or not.. our voices need to be heard in every debate.

Also, what about Rand and all the other people Ron Paul has endorsed? Are they exactly like him? No.. but they are our allies not enemies.

But he doesn't preach the

But he doesn't preach the "ideals" of liberty. He has no real understanding of them. His handlers advise him as to which surfacey "ideals" he can blather on about, but he's demonstrated no fundamental understanding/belief in them of his own.

Practical ideals

Gary Johnson developed his own set of ideas about what to do as governor. Many of those ideals cross over to traditional Libertarian philosophy. He's far more a libertarian than Mitt Romney is a conservative. He's far more a libertarian than Barack Obama is a liberal. He appears to have little interest for mental pursuits in political pursuits, but he has shown a knack for implementing minimal and cost-effective programs.

His focus is wrong, but his practical experience paints a different picture. I wish he'd drop the focus on "marijuana legalization": even as the basis of anti-authoritarianism, everyone's tired and many are offended. Raw milk (from cows & goats & other creatures) would be a far better case-in-point issue. Likewise, I disagree with his insistence on gay marriages. I want the federal government completely out of "marriage". I want these things to develop organically and for their meanings to be understood by those participating.

There you go again!lol

GJ is NO liberty candidate.

How can one be a liberty candidate when they choose to ignore the most important role of government? To protect innocent life where ever it may be found. That is one of the biggest liberty platforms there is. Everything "LIBERTY" is based on this particular platform of government!!!

How can one be a liberty candidate when they spend and run their campaign in MASSIVE debt and will leave the stage owing millions to small business owners and staffers? This is what he will do. He is in the red now and had his 15 mins 2 weeks ago. and continues to spend not knowing if he can pay back... what does this say???

How can one be a liberty candidate when they believe in foreign intervention, sometimes?lol
"Get the heck out of afghanistan!!!!, (but leave bases behind!)" GJ lololol..what???

Liberty? How about the role of the fed that Gary will not challenge??

What about balancing the NM state budget on the backs of taxpayers, when NM TAKES $2.45 for every dollar they SEND in???

Please tell me how Gairi can unwind this corrupt
government and five wars, and have the military behind him? There is no military support for Gary??? How will the joint chiefs respect his decisions to turn foreign policy on its head with no military experience???lol
are yall Gary supporters ON DRUGS?

Gairi has no real support, only
confused liberals who dont understand economics and dont realize the reason why Gairi is even on the stage..

Gairi is a tool, just like Bernie "sell out" sanders and dennis "airforce one" kucinich.
They NEVER stand by what they say and gary CAN NOT win with his campaign in debt. READ THAT AGAIN! and again and realize what that means.. Paul never runs his campaigns in debt, he has enough support and uses conservative principles which are MOST DEF needed to win ANY election as a third party or outsider.. duh? have u not learned ANYTHING from watching the MASTER!
This means gairi has NO tangible support and no MONEY!
It is a JOKE even a few Paul supporters are considering Gairi.
He is NO liberty candidate.
He lacks reasoning and study. He parrots Pauls talking points and commits himself to Pauls supporters, but has no message of his own,

no matter what his supporter may say to the contrary.

Intervention, empire, nation building are ok- sometimes???
liberty candidate? lollololol

I'm not very influential

But I bet I could bring it down to 18% without breaking a sweat.

On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and complete narcissistic moron.

Please stop wasting your time

Please stop wasting your time with Gary Johnson. He is not ready to be president. I don't vote for unqualified candidates:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTch7InkZjo

No enough is enough, all Johnson supporters, if they have morals, should be supporting Paul.

Watch the video, and stop posting things about the "lino" Gary Johnson. He hurts the cause of liberty. I do not want him in the debates, because he will hurt our cause.

So you think Obama or Romney

So you think Obama or Romney are more qualified than Gary Johnson, a two term governor and businessman, to be president? It is Obama and Romney who are the unqualified candidates, not Gary Johnson.

Absolutely!

The presidency is not about ONE man and HIS record or accomplishments.

While that is a factor in HIS being vetted, it is not the MOST important issue. It's "All the king's men".

I'm not just talking about who will be his VP, but his cabinate, who is in the house that actually backs him, and how well seated the central committes are.

Obama has Romney beat becasue Romney has empty seats, and Ron Paul Republicans are filling the vacuum, and they are NOT Romney by belief, but business only, and hopes to undermine his efforts.

Obama has more seats filled, the Democratic Party is larger, occupies more jobs in government.

GJ has no seats in my county for one. There are 92 registered Libertarians in my county of 24K registered voters, 30% Libertarians voted for GJ.

So based on this, I would say that Obama and Romney are more qualified and credentialed, where GJ has major problems in having people to back his issues if he were to become president, which he will not, and he will be lucky to achieve 3% of the vote.

Watch the video then ask the

Rand Paul 2016

It's really a shame

that this site has been hijacked by the Johnson supporters. Don't get me wrong, great guy, great ideas. If Dr. Paul doesn't become the nominee, fine, have at it with the information regarding Johnson, until then we are supporting Ron Paul for president. Is there no other site to discuss Johnson, no libertarian sites? Is it that one is unaware of the divisive nature of this topic. Is it that one has lost hope in the chance that Dr. Paul win be the nominee? What is the intent behind the constant updating of Johnson information? Does one feel Johnson will run against Obama for POTUS? Is one trying to show us that there are other freedom minded people in the world and one of them has the last name Johnson? Please explain, maybe we can go back and forth a bit and get to the bottom of this. Please don't respond with the freedom of speech thing, it is not relevant to my questions.

Enonesoch

I guess I'll answer your

I guess I'll answer your questions for fun.

There are other libertarian sites, but since we were all already here due to supporting Paul, it seemed a good place to stay and interact with like-minded people.

People like you are making this divisive. I don't see this as divisive at all. I support Paul AND I support Johnson. There that was easy. If they were both on the ballot, I'd vote for Paul first though.

I have as much hope as Ron Paul has chance in securing the nomination. I always reserve some hope, but I have seen zero evidence that the RP Revolution has gathered anywhere near enough delegates. Just being realistic.

The intent behind discussing Johnson is a combination of vetting and showing realistic people that Johnson is a good backup plan for furthering our movement. Some agree, some don't. I really don't see a decent second plan.

Uh...Johnson IS running against Obama as POTUS - most likely unlike Ron Paul.

If you all continue to vilify anyone who is not Ron Paul, this movement dies in August. Perhaps no one is as knowledgeable about libertarianism as is Paul - but they still offer a MUCH better alternative for us freedom lovers than Obamney.

“If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.”

I don't think Gary Johnson

I don't think Gary Johnson supporters are "hijacking" the site - unless by hijacking you mean "Ron Paul supporters who are planning to support the next best candidate should Ron Paul fail to get the republican nomination."

You don't keep cheering for the horse that broke its leg in the second last lap of a race - even if it is your favorite horse...

“If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.”

You, Ashman

and others have proven time and time again that you are not Ron Paul supporters, and know nothing of his policies, Austrian economics, or monetary policy.

I see an assertion. I see no

I see an assertion.
I see no evidence for your assertion.

What have I said that "proves" I am not a Ron Paul supporter?
What have I said that shows I know nothing of his policies
What have I said that shows I know nothing of Austrian economics?
What have I said that shows I know nothing of monetary policy?

“If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.”

Yeah why don't they wait until after Tampa to voice these ideas.

The only thing is has done is to undermine support for Paul. They should have respect for the Paul campaign until we see what happens after Tampa.

Lord Acton, Lord Chief Justice of England, 1875 - "The issue which has swept down the centuries and which will have to be fought sooner or later is the People v. The Banks."

I see the point they're

I see the point they're making.. but I hope they see that it falls kinda flat and makes them look pedantic. This stuff won't draw voters in. Remember how the smartest kid in school always got picked on, right?

Of course

More of this nonsense. Why is this on the front page? Is there a movement to drive down the traffic on the site? I don't care about meaningless polls. How about the one that we helped put money up for to put Paul against Obama? I am more interested to see how that shows up.

I agree

This site is not about the Principles and Teachings of GJ, its about the PRINICIPLE's and Teachings of Ron Paul, True Freedom, AND Austrian Economics.

I have no support for Johnson because he does not make the End of Federal Reserve his number one goal.

Ron Paul didn't come up with

Ron Paul didn't come up with libertarianism, you know?
Principles and teachings? Is Ron Paul the 2nd coming of the Messiah?
Ron Paul is just well-read. He is a supporter of the libertarian message which was thought of and written about before him and during his lifetime.

Just curious. When the FED is gone, where do you envision money coming from? Private banks? Congress? The Treasury? Gold and silver appears for everyone?

Why is an Australian so invested in this anyhow?

“If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin.”

Your "Im Australian"

angle does not work to discredit me in the eyes of Ron Paul supporters, as we understand that this system of monetary control is global.

There are Ron Paul supporters all over the World, and we all support the END OF THE FED!

Just Curious, do you have any understanding of Monetary Policy? Is this John Ashman back from the dead? He didnt know shit about economics or monetary policy either.

Why are you such an Ignorant American is more to the point?
