Half of US Counties Now Considered Disaster Areas

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Nearly 220 counties in a dozen drought-stricken states were added Wednesday to the U.S. government's list of natural disaster areas as the nation's agriculture chief unveiled new help for frustrated, cash-strapped farmers and ranchers grappling with extreme dryness and heat.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's addition of the 218 counties means that more than half of all U.S. counties — 1,584 in 32 states — have been designated primary disaster areas this growing season, the vast majority of them mired in a drought that's considered the worst in decades.

Counties in Arkansas, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wyoming were included in Wednesday's announcement. The USDA uses the weekly U.S. Drought Monitor to help decide which counties to deem disaster areas, which makes farmers and ranchers eligible for federal aid, including low-interest emergency loans.

This is why us farmer's who can not afford big losses purchase

crop insurance, which is already federally subsidized and very affordable. The Government can declare areas of disaster if they wish but there should be no more government programs for those who are willing to take the risk of planting a crop without hedging their bets.

Ah, but climate change is

Ah, but climate change is still a myth no doubt.

Anyway you don't fix this by the government helping out people with loans, making them stay longer ruining the local ecosystem further, causing more drought and have them chase the pipe dream of staying there and running succesful farm.

you can't print water.

I doubt you can find a single credible source

that denies climate change, since that is normal on our dynamic planet. Always has been, always will be so long as the planet exists.

true

There's no such thing as balance in nature.

This was mentioned at my church...

a few weeks ago. The message was on how America has drifted away from being a Christian nation and how America was benefiting from every direction, to today when our President of the United States won't let mention the word "God" in anything he says and how the curses are upon our nation.

He said the worldwide rainfall hasn't changed at all, the rain is just missing the United States. Anyone who wants a copy of the message let me know... VERY nice message everyone should hear.

God controls the weather

The Bible is where you will always find the truth!

If you read in Psalm 107:33, 34 you will see that He sends drought for the evil that is in the land:

Verse 33
He turneth rivers into a wilderness, and the watersprings into dry ground;

Verse 34
A fruitful land into barrenness, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Not anymore. The military

Not anymore. The military industrial complex controls the weather now.

Blessings )o(

Tell that to God

:-)
Ya know, they remind me of the people back in Babel.
They too, thought they would be like God and so they built that tower.
Who won out in that situation?
Who can fight against the Lord and prosper, the Good Book asks?

What utter fools they are!

" In Thee O Lord do I put my trust " ~ Psalm 31:1~

Welp, looks like they're pulling it off.

This whole weather control thing, I mean.
So 'till god does something about it, looks like the joke's on him. Then once he does, no one will be around to care, huh.

Declaring Disasters and State's of Emergency

makes it easier for city, state, and federal agencies and officials to get their hands on "emergency funds" AND for a bonus it also makes those funds much more difficult to track.

When Federal or State gov't's operate in a "State of Emergency" or are officially declared "disaster areas" it allows the government's to use money bugeted specifically for a particular program to be used however the hell they want. On top of being able to use any funds for anything, under a "State of Emergency" or an officially declared "disaster" the accounting of the funds is totally different than it is under "normal" conditions.

Where and how emergency money is used does not have to be documented or "justified" like it normally would. It becomes one big single accounting entry in the county's financials...like Summer 2012 drought - 50,000,000 instead of itemizing where the 50 million was spent. Sounds like an invitation for fraud I know... but, this method of accounting would ONLY be a problem if Government Agencies or Government officials could not be trusted or had a history of corruption and massive waste.

Think about this everytime there is a bad storm anywhere in the country. You will begin to notice that the government is very quick to declare disasters and/or other forms of "emergencies".

There is a very good reason why they are so quick to make offical declarations...and beleive me, it's not out of their concern for the people in the striken area. It's just the government "never wanting a serious crisis to go to waste" -Rahm Emanuel

When you read about these declarations...you can be assured that the public purse is fixing to have some well connected hands grabbing fistloads of loot from it.

That's right

It "officially" opens floodgates of cash

So the whole time the drought

So the whole time the drought is happening in the mid west...Louisiana is getting flooded.
What happened to Monsanto's drought resistant corn/soy/garbage? Maybe if our whole ENTIRE food system wasn't somehow created out of corn in the first place this would not be an issue. Maybe they should plant grass and feed the cows that. That would be what they are supposed to eat.

Greed = Karma.

If this keeps up

than maybe it is Global Warming.

No water is leaving our planet or atmosphere.

These disaster areas are defined as drought. Lack of rainfall. Some rain must fall. Drought police have as traveling job. They have to find work somewhere else on rainy days.

Federal loans

I had a friend who was a farmer during the Carter administration was approved for one of these low interest gov't loans, obviously incredible foresight and responsible behavior by the feds, didn't put any restrictions on its usage. He applied for the highest most ridiculous amount he could get and poured it all into high return, at the time, CDs.

He bought a plane with the profits, calls it his "welfare" plane...

The real criticism is

The real criticism is directed towards the low interest farmers only loans going out in the first place.

What if you could direct below market interest loans, even no interest, to any business venture you or your family owned? Oh wait, thats what the saints who own the federal reserve do...

Ha, then the charge us interest on that loan... All in the name of stability. Thanks guys!

I am not currently a saint, but I would submit an application.

Pending sainthood, I would see about finding me some of those free loans.

Those running the banking racket make loans out-of-thin-air to loan to government & any blame fool they choose. Innocents are fooled. We are lead to believe we must pay back what was originally made of nothing.

Re drought, I'd like to see a comparison of the consequences of

different farming methods, namely: 1) genetically-modified crops (using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides); 2) non-genetically-modified crops (using chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides); 3) organically-grown crops; and 4) biodynamically-grown crops. I don't know, but I'd expect that within these disasters area the worst hit, i.e., those requesting the most federal aid, would be GM crops (using chemicals); non-GM crops (using chemicals); organically-grown crops; and biodynamically-grown crops.

Organic crops perform 100% better in Drought conditions

In my neck of the woods in Nebraska pretty much everything is GMO and unless it is irrigated it is pretty much toast.

Thank you so much for those links/pictures!

I'm not surprised at all how dramatic the difference is. Pretty amazing, huh! All those chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers kill the micro-organisms in the soil, affecting (among other things) friability. From the documentary "One man, one cow, one planet," re b-d farming, I'm aware of the serious problem of compacted soil in India from GMO crops. (And when soil is compacted and then it does rain, it runs off... new problem: flooding!) Given the obvious collusion between the gov't and Monsanto to prevent food from being labeled, given so many problems connected with GMO's, I'd have a REAL PROBLEM with federal tax monies helping to promulgate a practice PROVEN to poorly withstand drought - akin to another corporate bailout: a known RISKY practice where they keep the profit when things are running smoothly then rely on the government (taxpayers) when the negative consequences kick in.

P.S. I love the Rodale Institute.

You might enjoy following Grain Place Foods Inc.

on Facebook.
http://www.facebook.com/GrainPlaceFoods
they post allot of good information concerning GMO crops and foods on Facebook on almost a daily basis.

Grain Place Foods is the oldest organic farm in Nebraska..they have been farming organically since 1978 and now have farmers on board all across the midwest and Canada. :o)

Nice story... three generations of farmers

Thanks, candance. It's a great site. Of course, now I'm in the mood for homemade cookies!

Is it coincidence that Texas went through the same

thing JUST LAST SUMMER..Around 70 days of 100 + degree temperatures.
Now the EXACT SAME THING IS HAPPENING in the main food production areas of this country...I don't believe in coincidence. Watch "What in the World are They Spraying" by G Edward Griffin..Ties into electromagnetic radiation, metal particles of which aluminum oxides and barium are being dumped right over our heads by the ton...You might look into Dopplar radar, Nexrad, HAARP and of course cell phones...Why do you think all these cell phone antenae stations are surrounded by 8 ft fences and razor wire...Electromagnetic substations for weather modification was my first thought. Anyone ever hear of the inventor of the cell phone ?? Seems he / she'd be as visible as Bill Gates, but that's not the case ??

Just one last kick in the nuts, then a final deathblow

Inventors & first users of the cell phones are many.

Invention is a many splendored thing.

Martin Cooper's cell phone invention may be the most talked about innovation on the planet... Currently, there are more cellular subscribers than land line phone users in the world. As the father of the mobile phone, Cooper improved communication by adding an important aspect—freedom. ...

Cooper had a vision for a personal wireless communication system. An idea he admits was inspired from watching Captain Kirk [Enterprise Commander] speak into his communicator on the Star Trek television series.

April 3, 1973 ~ The First Cell Phone Call: Martin Cooper... placed the first public telephone call on a portable cellular device. He called his competitors at AT&T's Bell Labs to give them the news of his cell phone invention.

To make the call even more exciting, he phoned them from the streets of New York City. Cooper made several calls that day...
