Paul Delegate Purge Sparks GOP Civil War In Maine

BuzzFeed: Divisions among Maine Republicans deepened Wednesday over Romney backers' attempt to purge Ron Paul supporters — who the Romney camp fears could wreak havoc at the Republican National Convention — from the state's delegation.

Peter Cianchette, a Bush donor and ambassador, and Maine Republican National Committeewoman Janet Martens Staples Saturday filed a challenge to 14 pro-Paul delegates and alternates, as the Boston Globe reported. Both were listed as Romney endorsers in a campaign press release in February.

Today, 23 members of the state Republican committee signed on to a letter to party chairman Charlie Webster denouncing the move, and demanding Staples' own resignation.

"The recent actions taken by National Committeewoman Jan Staples against the Maine Delegation are destructive to party unity, blur our focus on maintaining Republican majorities in the Maine House and Senate and provide fodder for opponents in the Democrat Party to attack our candidates in upcoming races," they write in the letter, provided to BuzzFeed by a Maine Republican.

In a letter being circulated today, 23 state party leaders demand that top party figures allow Paul supporters to go to Tampa. Allegations of “a deal by Mitt Romney's campaign.”

Daily Paul losing support? By Reason Magazine

They claim we have lost 41% of readership here is that true. My facebook page is growing daily. I have over 20 groups linked to my site now. I think the movement is still growing. I am not sure about reason magazine now. Where are they coming from. Like Bush used to say you are with us or you are against us. We are the future. We will take over the Republican party one county at a time.

I wouldn't be surprised if

I wouldn't be surprised if traffic is down. This is the lull between storms. But I'd be surprised if anybody really gave up and went away. If anything they're still coming in, as Romney's exposure is tearing away at his reputation, while the press is starting to actually talk about the persistent and growing split in the party.

The primaries/caucuses and the state conventions are over. The national convention is a way out yet, and the activities there are concentrated around a smaller number of delegates and a single cluster of events rather than a substantial number of large delegations and separate battles spread out over the states.

I know I haven't posted much the last couple weeks. That's because I really had little to add to what was already here, and I'm taking advantage of the lull to take my own life off hold. (You may notice my punctuation is improving, for instance. That's a side effect of classwork.) But I'm still here, still checking in, still sticking wooden shoes in the Establishment's looms when I see an opening, still supporting liberty and liberty candidates in general and Ron Paul in particular.

In most wars there are sometimes pitched battles and sometimes quiet periods, while wounds are treated, troops are moved, gains consolidated and losses worked around, plans are made, and so on. The war isn't any less "happening" because most of the guns are being cleaned and hauled around rather than fired.

Dr. Ron Paul for 2012! Restore America Now. Not 2016.

So be it.

they dont know right from

they dont know right from wrong. sad.

AT ANY COST those who want to maintain the stautus quo

and despise any libertarian or constitutional reform within "THEIR" party are the ones who will try to purge such reformers out of the GOP to their own demise. Really! , do these people expect to have a win for Romney without any respect for the "Contitutional Liberty" people and our message? Do they expect us to support and vote for a candidate who won delegates through coercion and manipulation. Yet should Obama be re-elected , we will be blamed and further castigated. I have found that to even mention that we should only engage in congressionally declared wars gets the response of eye rolling and quick subject changing amongst these old GOP-pers. Unity behind the constitution is what we need, not unity behind he "we need to replace Obama with anybody with an "R" by their name.

With all due respect, I will no longer be a voting prostitute for Constitution rejecting harlots.

More pissed @ GOP

And honestly, I'm more pissed off at Romney and the GOP than Obama, and that's saying a LOT...because I see Obama as being pretty dang bad. FOX news conservatives have been focusing on the man Obama and not necessarily the principles that make him bad. We have to replace Obama because he's a communist! They say...but communism is only bad because it's a form of statism. You're just trading one form of statism for another, and being happy about it! It's a textbook example of a "false dilemma"

Who Would Ever Have Imagined Charlie Webster to Be a Hero?

Bravo to Maine and to the Boston Globe, which keeps telling it like it is because they know from their experience of him in Massachusetts that Romney is a crook!

THE GOP IS CHAOS... THEY WANT POWER AND ANARCHY!

Ron Paul fans want peace and stability through diversity.

If the Maine GOP wants to get their hands dirty let them... we all know where that road ends

A true flower can not blossom without sunlight and a true man can not live without love.

The Paul delegates must be stopped

If they're going to wreak havoc! Because Paul delegates are young anarchist Mohawk sporting hulligans who's only purpose in life is to cause strife and chaos in our orderly and civilized democracy. ( that's the inference with the opening line).

In truth of course, Romney and the GOP are causing chaos by spitting in the face of a fair democratic process.
Seriously? Stopping the vote counting at 85% wasn't good enough for you?

Don't forget...

Don't forget that the Paul kids are all pot-smoking, draft-dodging hippies. Absolutely 100% unpatriotic.

It is never wise to try to

It is never wise to try to stop an immutable force. Charlie Webster should be commended for standing up for the rules.

Ron Paul's Delegate Fight with the GOP...ME, MA, LA, OR

Ron Paul's Delegate Fight with the GOP, Aug. 1, 2012. Maine, Louisiana, Massachusetts, & Oregon. Reason.com, CNN, USA Today
http://reason.com/archives/2012/08/01/ron-pauls-delegate-fig...

Maine: ... in a state whose delegation Paul firmly controlled, Maine, a prominent Republican, Peter E. Cianchette, last week filed a challenge with the RNC to de-Paulify the delegation. He claimed, as the Associated Press reported, that “there were illegal votes at May's state Republican Convention, that a quorum wasn't present when votes for delegates were cast, and that convention officials violated party and parliamentary rules.”

These various challenges go before the national party’s contest committee in the next couple of weeks, and can be then considered by the credentials committee. What does all this state delegation tumult say about relations between the Paul campaign and the rest of the GOP? ...

Tampa... As Paul activist Trevor Lyman (he was... behind the famous Ron Paul Blimp in 2008) wrote in reaction to USA Today story:

The RNC is offering Ron Paul a location for his own rally one day before the actual convention. This is NOT a speaking role, nor any kind of role, at the convention itself. This is NOT an offer to influence the party platform, nor an opportunity to influence the debate. Rather, this is an offer to put Ron Paul and his supporters into a ‘Freedom of speech zone‘, a place where you’re allowed to protest and speak out, and that also happens to be at a location where no one can hear you.

Homeland security statement: patriotism is now considered terrorism.
I love www.isidewith.com shared it with everyone I know. If anything they realize its not just a red and blue idiot running for reelection.

Of course

I hadn't thought about it in that way, but of course the reason for giving Dr Paul a spot outside the convention is that the GOP decided that it was their limit and think it will calm the Paul delegates and his supporters sufficiently. They will not let him speak at the convention, it doesn't matter what happens, what rules they have to break.

Of course...

they probably gave him the smallest venue available, too.

"provide fodder for opponents

"provide fodder for opponents in the Democrat Party to attack our candidates in upcoming races"

the funny yet sad thing is, they are too blind to see that nominating ron paul would provide the democratic party with ZERO fodder.

The Establishment GOP Is a Fodder Mill

Not only is the GOP "presumptive nominee" an empty suit, Etch-a-Sketch, flip-flopping organized criminal of slapstick proportions, his notorious greed and obsessive money-mongering have failed to buy him either conscience or personality. Moreover, the now infamous farce of the 2012 GOP primary season has created the US election process (our #1 most important commodity worldwide) into a global laughing stock. And they are going to try to pin such catastrophe on the Ron Paul supporters? Ha! Typical!
