Today Is The 75 Year Anniversary Of Marijuana Prohibition

Today is Thursday, August 2nd, 2012 - the 75 year anniversary of Marijuana Prohibition which was enacted on August 2, 1937.

At the time when the Marijuana Tax Act was passed the the government said there was an epidemic of marijuana smoking. They estimated the number of people smoking the plant at 100,000.

Today, after 75 years of spending tens of billions of dollars to arrest over 20 million people who have served a collective TWENTY MILLION YEARS IN PRISON, they've managed to get that number down to 80-100 million people who have tried the plant, 20-40 million regular users and 10-20 million daily smokers.

This war is insane. Many people called for an end to the war in Iraq. Many are calling for an end to the war in Afghanistan. Soon, many more will call for an end to this war as well, this grave injustice called marijuana prohibition.

I'm sure all of you believe that the time is now to consider a different approach than what we have been doing and that throwing people in prison for a plant is violent, wrong and immoral.

By the way, I'm still standing strong for Ron Paul in 2012!

THC gets all the attention from non-knowers.

Just look up cannabidiol. What an amazing compound. And no, I don't advocate synthesizing/isolating cannabidiol as the answer. (Already been done.) It's the synergy of all the compounds---those that we know, and those that we don't---which gives the plant it's properties.
And here I'm only talking about the medicinal purposes!
What a waste. What a shame.

My Ancestors Were Hemp Farmers

Just thought I would add a video I made a day after the first video. It's a good video but it only has 42 views and I think it deserves more. (Probably 10 of the views are mine haha.)

Here's one I'm pretty sure I posted already but I don't think anyone actually saw it, it's me telling the story of the first person in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania to be arrested for the crime of "marijuana". He was an 81 year old hemp farmer who had no idea that it was illegal. He was arrested on July 5, 1938...

One last short video, of me giving my book, Hempstone Heritage to Mitt Romney on June 16...

Click. Viewing. I love

Click. Viewing. I love grass roots media. I only got 300 views on my Herman Cain "florida straw poll intro video analyzed", but I'd have still made it.

It's who you reach.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

Cool. Thanks Man

You never know when you make a video if you're going to get 50 views or thousands of views. It's true that it's who you reach but I still always hope for as big an audience as possible.

Last week I quit my job. Actually, I put in three weeks notice. I intentionally timed it so that my first day of freedom from my job was on August 2, the 75 year anniversary of marijuana prohibition. Now, I am diving headfirst full time in trying to promote my book, hemp, Ron Paul and the overall campaign for liberty.

This might all end in personal disaster for me. In 8 0r 9 months I might find myself flat broke and scrambling for a job again. I have to do it though. I had to break the chains and drop everything. There's a freakin REVOLUTION going on and I want to be a part of it. To me, that's way more important than being a wage slave at this time. I might fail financially but I'm going to make it count and I WILL be heard.

Next month I've got a gig in Philly at the Hemp Heals Music Fest with Cypress Hill, Sublime, Pepper, Bong Hits For Jesus and The Manic Low. I will be speaking on the main stage in between one of the bands and I will be at my friend Shawn Patrick House's Hempzel stand helping him to sell his delicious pretzels made from hemp seed and my book Hempstone Heritage.

We'll see how it goes. I'm only going into my 5th day of freedom and have been somewhat suppressed by a cold. I'm getting ready to try to put something together that I think will be very positive. My goal is to educate as many people as I can, to make actual change and to hopefully benefit from that change. The last part is the least important though...

Probably your ancestors were

Probably your ancestors were hemp farmers too. Ok, that cracks me up for some reason.

But of course, canvas didn't use to be made out of synthetics. Maybe - who knows. I figure they were small farmers without looking at the family history book.

mid-14c., from Anglo-Fr. canevaz, from O.Fr. canevas, from V.L. *cannapaceus "made of hemp," from L. cannabis, from Gk. kannabis "hemp," a Scythian or Thracian word. Canvas-back as a type of N.Amer. duck is from 1785.

Not sure where the duck came from in that word history.

And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor.

End the BS. End the War on Drugs. Our time is now.

Regardless of whether you are for or against marijuana, I think it is clear that we can all agree that incarcerating "criminals" for possession of a substance that in a neighboring state is legal is absolute BS.

I for one am a huge advocate in alternative natural remedies and know full well the potential of allowing people to use a medicinal herb that has 0 deaths recorded and can cure so many illness it's not even funny. I've lost many friends and dear family members to cancers and the like knowing full well that if we had access to this item, everyone would still be alive today.

Many of you have already known about items like:

This awakening and movement cannot be NOR WILL IT be stopped. The establishment will crumble.

Dr. Paul will win.

So be it.

It's hard to believe I've been a criminal for that long. And Pop said I'd never be a success at anything.

I've never smoked pot in my life...

but still - LEGALIZE IT.

40 years of moderate cannabis

... smoking later and I feel GOOD!!! People who try and guess my age often guess 10 - 15 years too low.

With over 2,500 strains there's a cure for what ails YOU. Cannabis is an amazing herbal remedy for a wide array of illness. Cannabis protects your hippocampus from damage caused by fluoride. The real reason it's been outlawed for the last 75 years is because it makes you SMARTER and more aware of government fraud and malfeasance. The corporate pesticide-toxin-complex doesn't want you to know how you can reverse their calculated eugenics policies through nutritional herbal wellness strategies. They want you "third-eye blind" and slowly dying. It doesn't have to be that way.

In Colorado, there are two choices for legalization to vote on November 6th: One is a regulatory nightmare devised by Democrats bent on removing what little choice you have left over your own body. The other measure is a libertarian option with limited regulation and limited taxation :

this old person who has never smoked a thing . . .

anything, ever--

just discovered recently that the rare illness he/she experiences (chronic, not terminal) used to be successfully medicated (prior to the prohibition) with cannibis tincture.

So, yes, I'm on board. I always was from a purely libertarian perspective, but like the person below not with regards to human life (unborn OR born)--

but now I have even stronger reasons to join the outcry against this insane war--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

jaseed's picture

" I'm still standing strong

for Ron Paul in 2012!"...Great News, Hempstone!

I'm pro-choice for just about everything,
but not pro-choice to abort a human being!
And not for putting a totally corrupt flip-flopper in The White House!
Take away the state smoking bans in bars, restaurants...a choice between patron and business owner and this should include cannabis.

“The God who gave us life, gave us liberty at the same time: the hand of force may destroy, but cannot disjoin them.”

– Thomas Jefferson

The one thing you should consider...

I am ALL for freedom, but you've got to realize that 2nd hand smoke is dangerous, just as 2nd hand cannabis smoke causes contact high. When your in public and your smoking everybody around you inhales it and thats not a CHOICE they have. Again I am all for liberty to do as one pleases, just not as long as it forces something on another or harms somebody. 2nd hand smoke hurts peoples health, and some people may not want to be somewhere you are and be forced to get a contact high.

I feel you should be able to smoke cannabis or any other plant, but do so on your own property.

No You Can't

Ive been around MJ since the 1960's and 70's. You Can Not get high from passing second hand smoke. I agree that it can be a nuisance and you realy shouldn't bother anybody with your habits. But getting high from beig around smokers....not gonna happen.

No matter where you go...there you are.

the fact is that it does not . . .

always have to be smoked to get the positive medicinal effects. Some people do find smoking to be better; others cannot smoke anything (lungs react), and even others find that the benefits from tinctures are very good--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

I remember seeing somewhere online

up in Canada where you can buy some sort of device that will block most of the tar or whatever from getting in your lungs.

I'd rather use the liquid . . .

from the plant--

for some of *us* it's not the tar, it's the condition of the lungs meeting smoke of any kind--

the inhalation process--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Hold on here

For one you are correct that inhaling smoke of any kind is not positive. Marijuana smoke is not as bad, however, there are a couple things that need to be pointed out. For one, it is virtually impossible to get THC from second hand smoke. The only way it would be possible is if it was an extremely small, like a trunk of a car and unventilated area and it was purposeful where the inhaling party did not take the smoke into the lungs and the second party was almost mouth to mouth to inhale the full smoke immediately. Impossible in a bar setting on accident. Contact high is a myth. Furthermore the safest way to use cannabis is using a vaporizer which does not produce any smoke at all. So indoors at a place they could restrict it to this if they so chose. Also don't forget that it can be consumed in foods, teas and a variety of ways not involving smoke.

Most importantly- and I firmly believe that this is Dr. Paul's view- it should be up to the individual owners of each establishment on whether or not they would allow smoke of any kind on their premises. That is what property rights are all about. There is no one forced to breathe second hand smoke as there is no one forced to go to those places. If an owner saw business was down because of people not wanting to breath the smoke then- that is not only property rights but the free market working- and that owner may make a different business decision.

Lastly, when you say that you should only be allowed to use marijuana on your own private property you are not addressing the injustice of these laws. Do you really believe that if someone is sitting beside a lake that is not their own property and smokes a joint they should face criminal charges? If I am at an concert and want to eat a marijuana brownie should I be arrested because its not my property? If someone is not growing it themselves then they have to cross public property to even get it for medical or recreation reasons. There is no law that stops people from walking out of the drugstore and taking their prescription meds which are millions of times more harmful to the individual and puts society in much more harmful situation and there shouldn't be for cannabis either.

ah yes, a vaporizor.

I was trying to remember what device thing I read about and then I read your post. I just responded to 1988vote before I read yours.

Man your making allot of good points. lol I was wrong. Someone else "put me in place" yesterday on something similar. I wasnt thinking about these things you say when I made my comment. When I said on your own property I was really talking about the smoke part of it floating into someone elses face because that infringes on their rights. At the same time your point about property rights would invalidate my logic if the property owner allows it.

i appreciate

humble response. I certainly do not look at it as putting you in your place, but good conversations has changed my views on many things, most things! I am pretty confident, however, that Dr. Paul has given me countless views that will stick.

Yes, I have heard of that--

and for some extreme cases of pain that would be necessary for those who can't handle smoke--

on the other hand there are some conditions (mine happens to be one) that would respond happily to the tincture, just the herbal extraction, as with so many other herbs--

why complicate things in MY case, anyway?

But, thank you, yes--I know someone who has used a vaporizer for intense pain--

I believe there are those who don't want it known that cannibis is, after all, just another (but powerful and unique) healing herb!!!

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

most people are not humble

most people are not humble enough to admit when they are wrong.

but, being able to listen/learn helps us to grow and be better. more power to ya!
