Ron Paul: Making History

0 votes

On May 30, 2007—not quite 4 months ago—something unheard of in U.S. politics occurred. Congressman Ron Paul, not invited to the Iowans for Tax Relief Forum in Ames, Iowa, held his own event next door. Within one week, he attracted more attendees than the Tax Relief conference and stunned the Iowans. This was the opening salvo of a campaign that would chart new territory in U.S. political campaigns.

Through word-of-mouth and internet support, Congressman Paul has gained more attention than any other candidate. As a result, he has more Meet-Up groups than any other; and is the most-searched candidate on Google. As well, Congressman Paul's message of freedom has inspired astonishing grassroots activism: supporters make their own banners, signs, T-shirts, videos and songs about Dr. Paul. When was the last time so many disparate individuals and groups came together to do something like this? Never. That is why this campaign is historic; the actions of the Ron Paul supporters are unprecedented in U.S. political history. No candidate has inspired this kind of support, ever.

Much has been made of the diversity of those who support Congressman Paul, and it is significant. The young, the old; bikers and grannies, people of different races and political backgrounds all find common ground with Dr. Paul’s message of freedom. As well, those who were formerly apathetic (if not discouraged) about America’s political future are leaping from their beds to support the Paul campaign. We are kindred spirits, bound together, as Lincoln said, “by the better angels of our nature.” We are not merely supporting Congressman Paul; we are striving to save our Republic.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. ~ Abraham Lincoln, Gettysburg Address.

At the moment we are in a civil war. It is a war of ideology; of the ruling elitists and the controlled media against those who seek freedom from tyranny. The destiny of our Republic is more at risk today than it was in 1863, and that is another reason why this campaign is historic. As most know, the mainstream media embraces the candidates they are told to embrace, and they shun those they have been instructed to shun. But, interestingly, this only seems to make Ron Paul's support grow, much to the frustration of the opposition. They have never encountered a Congressman like Ron Paul. That is because he is not one of them, he is one of us.

The ruling elite, and their controlled media, are formidable. They have money, power, influence and they are unscrupulous. Seemingly, they have everything they need to win, and they may prevail. But they do not have the consent of the governed; they do not have the Constitution, and they certainly do not have the hearts of the people.

That is why it is so important to keep up the battle cry of freedom by wearing Ron Paul shirts, hats, pins and so forth when out in public. Take flyers or cards along and hand them out to every supermarket cashier, every barber, every gas station attendant, every librarian, every person to whom you say good morning. I have yet to meet a person who did not respond favorably to Congressman Paul’s message of freedom. We have one chance, one year, to really help Ron Paul make history.

Ron Paul: Making History

Zenpiper,

Your are so right. Wonderfully stated. Those are, indeed, the stakes.

Thank you, and God bless you.

Ron Paul Revolution Ignites Republican Fever

....While come other top tier Republican candidates are beginning to realize that the need for change message is working for the Democrats, Paul has been preaching that sermon since the start of his campaign. The large number of dock workers that showed up for his appearance is a testament to his potential, considering that perceived front-runner Rudy Giuliani chose the ferry as his mode of transportation to the debate location.

Redstate

Perhaps you should post this article over at Redstate, where they are calling Ron's supporters liberals again.

It always amazes me that they can call him a liberal, yet at the same time, attack him with all the usual right winger-type sins they can thing of.

The worst is saying he's got an ego or is a fraud.

Here is the most honorable and genuine man that most any of us know.
These folks see the support and apparently are scared.

I can't think of any other reason for the vitriol.

Redstate

.
I post there from time to time, and it's the same bunch of close-minded idiots.

Richard Brookhiser (CFR from National Review) just engaged in pointless Ron Paul name-calling. But what can one expect from the CFR gang? They are running scared. They have never experienced quite such an onslaught from Paul supporters and do not handle it with grace.

Other sites are a little more friendly. Slate is a pretty good one.

Thanks for the idea though. Maybe I'll write something funny for Deadstate.

Making History

I completely agree that Ron Paul movement is making history to return our country to a Constitutional Republic.

Thank you for your inspiring post about our movement.

Just one point, which I would like to comment with no intention to hurt in any way the spirit of your text, which I greatly support and appreciate.

Abraham Lincoln is a bad example to illustrate our cause. He has tried to suspend Habeas Corpus.

"During the Civil War, Lincoln appropriated powers no previous President had wielded: he used his war powers to proclaim a blockade, suspended the writ of habeas corpus, spent money without congressional authorization, and imprisoned 18,000 suspected Confederate sympathizers without trial. "

from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_lincoln

Ron Paul policy is the opposite of one from A. Lincohn and exactly in line with policy of our Founding Fathers.

Please, refer to our Founding Fathers, such as Thomas Jefferson or Benjamin Franklin to inspire us next time.

You are correct

.
I wasn't aware of all of Mr. Lincoln's misdeeds; but this man was in a wartime situation, under extraordinary pressure to keep the union together as best he could. Nobody is perfect; and, in the cool light of hindsight, he may have handled things differently. Who among us has no regrets for an unfortunate word or deed? This is not to excuse what he did; but to factor in the context. Most of what he did and said was for our benefit. And, frankly, I don't know of any U.S. president who didn't make monumental blunders.

Lincoln

I wouldn't refer to Lincoln's atrocities as "blunders." He deliberately and maliciously sent armed troops into the offices of newspapers that disagreed with him. The troops, on Lincoln's specific order, smashed printing presses and arrested publishers and editors. Thousands of newspapermen spent the war locked away in federal prisons, without charge, without court hearings, without access to council.
Lincoln also ordered the house arrest of the entire legislature of the state of Maryland.
He also deported a Congressman for daring to make a speech in Congress opposing Lincoln's policies.
When Sherman "marched to the sea" burning everything in his path, shelling towns and cities with women and children still in them, he was acting on Lincoln's direct order.
If there is anyone in government today who resembles Lincoln, it is GW Bush. I wouldn't identify our movement with either of them.
Ron Paul is, thank goodness, about as far from Lincoln as one could ever hope. He is the Thomas Jefferson of our time.

You may be right.

.
You obviously have looked into Lincoln's actions far more than I have. I still like the guy. If you can find a suitable quote of Jefferson's to replace the Lincoln quote, I will be happy to use it.

Ron Paul may be similar to Jefferson in some ways, though I don't think he ever had a slave named Sally.

The worse war in American history to oppose what?

Lincoln trampled the constituion to prevent the Southern States from going there own way. Ron Paul has said that the South had every legal right to leave this Union, for it was founded as free union. We are a Union of free states, and states have every right to leave at any time. There is nothing in the constitution that forbides this.

you failed to mention how awesome neocons are

Zen Piper, that's all fine and dandy, but you fail to mention that neocons are the best. Every revolution from the past until the future combined will never be as big as one good neocon agenda. Put that one in the zen pipe.

Ron Paul is not a neocon. He doesn't have much of a central plan. He is into personal liberty. That is ultra un neocon.

"You guys are disgusting doing what you are doing. Where is your patriotism? How are you supposed to support troops when they are home? Do you want to make them see their families?"

Neocon F. Dweeb

Well said

Hot DAMN, zenpiper. That was a GREAT post! I think I'm going to have to copy it for my site (if you don't mind)! Nicely said, nicely said.
