It's Raining, It's Pouring, The Old Man Is "Going To Jail!?"

Seriously? The government is claiming the rain as property of the state? Crazy!

(CNSNews.com) – Gary Harrington, the Oregon man convicted of collecting rainwater and snow runoff on his rural property surrendered Wednesday morning to begin serving his 30-day, jail sentence in Medford, Ore.

Get the story straight. He wasn't just collecting rainwater.

The full story:

He was not convicted for "collecting rainwater", but for damming up tributaries that flow through his property.

There are things here to discuss, but get the story straight first.

that's false

your facts are wrong...he had ponds on his property that were used by him and the government for various purposes, including the state taking his pond water to put out wildfires. He was not damming up tributaries, that is completely and utterly false. They were ponds that were filled with rain and snow. They have a valve in the pond and the state is going to force him to drain his pond(s). The pond has been there for years and years. Other people around him have the same type of ponds.

He did not literally take a tributary and block/dam it up to create a pond. He literally had a pond that just collected snow and rain.

If I was technically savy I would post the interview he and his lawyer did with Peter Schiff. You would change your comment real quick.

Id like to see everyone who

Id like to see everyone who lives in Medford bring lawsuits against the city for any water damage.

The guy was a dope anyway

If he wanted no jail time all he had to do was steal $1.2 billion like Jon Corzine.

I can't wait to sue my city

I can't wait to sue my city for the cost of a new roof, any dry rot damage, and new clothes every time I get mud stains!

the best way to teach these crazy statists a lesson is to beat them at their own game. Since they are claiming the rain water is essentially their property, then you might have a good court case when "their property" causes damages to your person, or your property. I would haul them into court the first chance you get. Good thinking!

Real issue?

Real issue; he's not paying the govt for water. Boo hoo boo!

Peter Schiff had a great argument against this

This guy should start suing the government every time it snows on his property to come remove it for putting the snow there. He should sue them when it's cloudy out since they own the weather for not allowing his yard to see sunshine. He said so many other things, but it was hilarious and true. If they own the rain, sue them for dumping it on his yard...he didn't ask them to put it there.

This opens a whole new pandora's box for government lawsuits if they own inclimate weather.

Now you have to post the link

Now you have to post the link to where Schiff said that.

Judge is a crook

What kind of Judge would send a man to jail for that?

Also where is the jury? Why wasn't this nullified

Laws turn men into criminals.

Here is another point

If the State owns the rain, does that make them liable for damages if it falls on my property and I don't want it too?

Peter Schiff listener???

Hilarious stuff...and true

I like him and did not hear his segment

But it doesn't surprise me. Sound like something he would say.

should bring charges of abuse of power against any so-called official who attempts to encroach on any citizen's freedom and liberty.

the state is the criminal--

rain barrels/ponds are a godsend to gardeners throughout the world--

it's hard to be awake; it's easier to dream--

Who would allow such a law
