If Ron Paul is ever to persuade the delegates in Tampa to nominate him

I am going to get down voted for this, but here goes anyway.

We will need to persuade them that he is favorite to beat Obama.
This is a very simple matter if the following caveat is followed.

Ron Paul will need to completely change his style of address and change the way he presents his arguments and policies.
He will have to write a speech beforehand. It will be a lot different to all his previous speeches.
He should collaborate with Tom Davis on how to put across a good speech.

Previous stump speeches (not Congressional) have been orated to appeal to Ron Paul supporters or those who are already considering Ron Paul.

These are not the non Ron Paul delegates in Tampa.
These people are not idealists.
The ordinary man on the street is not an idealist libertarian.

So just change the wording.
Note how many times the words, Liberty, Freedom, End the Fed, Bring the Troops Home, End the Wars, appear in this argument.

Ron Paul's Case for the Nominee

http://ian56.blogspot.co.uk/2012/02/ron-pauls-case-for-nomin...

‎1. The only GOP nominee who can beat Obama in November.
The only GOP nominee that can take a majority of Independents and take Democrats away from Obama too.

2. The only GOP nominee who wants to gradually reduce Fed personal tax to ZERO. WSJ's Stehen Moore says it can be done and "would be the biggest job creator in history".

3. The only GOP nominee who would cut Federal spending - $1tn cuts first year, balanced budget in three. Everyone else would increase the deficit and the National Debt would soar.
Rick Santelli explains the current Federal Budget
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CMsA-17bdP8

‎4. The only candidate, with a consistent track record going back over 20 years, who supports the Constitution.

‎5. The only candidate who predicted the housing bubble and subsequent collapse. And he did so 5 years before it happened. The only candidate who understands economics.

‎6. The only candidate who would create more friends for America. All the others would create more enemies.

7. Welfare payments would be more secure. With cuts to wasteful spending programs there is more money to meet welfare obligations.

Update 08/06

8. Ron Paul would immediately start to tackle the rampant corruption endemic in Washington DC.
He would wield the veto like a mighty sword on all those lines of Pork, discreetly hidden in bills.
Bridge to Nowhere - no more.
Subsidies for Nascar? No way.
The list of Pork passing through DC is endless. It can be stopped.

9. Bank fraud
Unlike Romney and Obama, Ron Paul would tackle the numerous cases of banking fraud.
Why have no bankers been jailed for the widespread mortgage fraud? The banks bought Obama in 2008, they have bought Romney in 2012.

10. Ron Paul can project a positive message
Let's take this country BACK to what made it GREAT

HOW did America turn from a land of optimism & the greatest creditor on Earth, turn into a nation of frightened sheep loaded with debt? Let's turn it BACK.

The Republicans are FRIGHTENED of the Democrats and the Democrats are FRIGHTENED of the Republicans. Let's join together and unite under the Constitution for the United States.

EVERYONE has been made to be afraid of a few lunatics without any clout. We defeated the USSR why is everyone afraid of a few radical muslims?
Do you remember the time when America defeated an empire with 1,000's of ICBM's aimed at US cities, 10,000's tanks, submarines, fighters, bombers? And you are now afraid. Of what?

Why not go BACK to a time when US was full of optimism & opportunity & wealth? Why NOT go back to the Constitution for the United States?

Why did the spirit of enterprise and we can do ANYTHING get replaced in America by sheep cowered by FEAR?

WHY do American's continue to re-elect the same members of Congress that have an 11% approval rating? Why NOT kick them OUT? Why not take the whip (veto) to them and the mountains of Pork?

Why don't Americans stop being supporters of Republican or Democrat parties and go back to being supporters of AMERICA and the CONSTITUTION? Let's make America GREAT.

11) Romney has ALWAYS been PRO Healthcare Mandate. (added 11:30 EST)
Romneycare was Romney's signature piece of legislation whilst he was Massachusetts Governor. He is PROUD of it.
Romneycare is 50% funded by non Massachusetts taxpayers. Do you like paying Ma's bills?

Romney urged Obama to adopt a national healthcare mandate as recently as 2009.
http://directorblue.blogspot.co.uk/2012/03/simply-delightful...

Romney defended Romneycare from Santorum's attacks during the nomination debates.
http://www.cato-at-liberty.org/romneycare-free-riders/#utm_s...

Romney appointed Mike Leavitt as his head of transition. Leavitt makes money from Healthcare exchanges, which ride on the back of healthcare mandates.
http://markamerica.com/2012/06/05/romney-appointment-evinces...

Romney will NEVER replace Obamacare (or he will replace it with minor tweaks). His own AIDE said so. He stood behind a podium which said Repeal and Replace.

P.S.
Not ONE policy has been changed. I don't want him to change a single one.
The message is entirely different to all his stump speeches though.
You might like his stump speeches.
Romney/Santorum/Gingrich/Breitbart/Palin/McCain/Kerry/Bachmann supporters DON'T.
That is why Ron Paul never got higher than about 10% in the primaries.
Put yourself in non Ron Paul people's shoes and consider what they are thinking.
Then present an argument that appeals to them.

N.B. The GOP is going to come back with terrorism and Iran.

Terrorism
15 Americans died from terrorism related incidents in 2010 and 13 of those were in Afghanistan.
Taking a shower is FAR more dangerous than the terrorism threat.

Iran.
As above. We defeated the USSR who had 1,000's of ICBM's pointed at US cities, 10,000's tanks, submarines, fighters, bombers. And you are now afraid. Of what?

The CIA and Mossad say that Iran is NOT developing nuclear weapons.
Even if they did, what difference would it make?
If Iran ever did launch a nuke, say at Israel. What would happen to Iran? It would be obliterated by Israel's 200+ nukes.
The mad mullahs may encourage others to be suicidal, they are not so keen on the idea themselves. They would not do it.
What about the threat of Iran giving a nuke to a terrorist? That threat already exists, Pakistan has nukes and sold nuclear weapons technology to North Korea.
Again if Iran gave a nuke to a terrorist there would be a massive coalition formed against it. Once again the mad mullahs are not that keen on suicide.

Awesome basis for a speech!

Loved every word.

Thank you.

Too bad that Ron Paul is just an intellectual, and not a bold, daring leader.

I think our focus should be on local politics, like running ourselves. WE can be the bold, daring, intellectuals that our communities need. That is a very empowering thought!

ConstitutionHugger's picture

Dr. Paul said he's in it to win it.

And I take him at his word. I agree that he needs to change his stump style to appeal to the masses. His speeches are like college lectures. That is good- but most people don't have the attention span to absorb 60 minutes of lecture.
Most people don't want to learn. They want the boxes checked off on their mental list of what they want from their president when they listen to a speech.
Find out what is on their lists and check off the boxes. Don't try to educate them. There will be time for fireside chats later.

My guess as to what people want:

1. security
2. immediate needs met(jobs, social security)
3. beat Obama

Then state how Dr. Paul checks off these boxes and repeat it a few times just to make sure they got it.

Exactly!

You said, "They want the boxes checked off on their mental list of what they want from their president when they listen to a speech."

They want to know how a RP presidency would benefit them, AND YET, Ron Paul does not improve his delivery. It's like he has nobody coaching him or he doesn't want to "sell" his ideas to the masses.

Somebody needs to get through to him, or more than likely, he IS being "managed" by Benedict Benton, who doesn't want him to be successful.

Section 12 added on Abortion

Ron Paul's pro life stance, but it is a states issue according to the Constitution needs to be added.
Anyone want to word it?

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free."

That's not what he wants.

He doesn't want to be nominated. Period. He had huge rallies and was on the verge of gaining the momentum needed to force a brokered convention and then he quit with the rallies and quit attending the state conventions. For whatever reason a decision was made back in mid-April to end the campaign and not to push for the nomination.

You can't force Ron Paul to do something he doesn't want to do. He's an individual, and he has the right to decide that this stage of the movement is coming to a close and it's time to start preparing for the next stage.

Benton decided that

I believe in Ron Paul.
I believe he can still WIN.
I never said it would be easy.
I knew from the start all the forces lined up against us.

Romney has given us our chance.
We MUST take it.
Are you going to sit on your backside offering up defeatist posts.
Or are you going to HELP?

I said back in February that winning the nomination was by far the hardest.
And that it was always going to come down to Tampa.
Beating Obama is easier.

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free."

Section 3 updated Rick Santelli explains

the current Federal Budget

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free."

The delegates aren't that stupid....

...Paul doesn't need to reinvent his speaking style. All he needs to do is slow down and hammer home a few of the obvious benefits of a Paul presidency and I think the delegates will take note.

Freedom vs Tyranny comes to mind.

Repeal the Patriot Act.

He'd bring the troops home.

We'd make friends not enemies with his foreign policy.

Lower taxes.

Get rid of the TSA.

Mentioning these things, which are also popular among Democrats and 3rd parties, would become a reality with Paul as President would go along way towards Romney delegates changing their minds and voting for Paul.

You are thinking like a Ron Paul supporter

not a Romney/Gingrich/Santorum delegate.
(Or like the man on the street.)

If you want to persuade, you have to resonate with non Ron Paul people.

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free."

except dems and 3rds won't be at the convention.

. And OUR delegates aren't stupid - it's the others that need persuading.

Exactly

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free."

Section 11 added

This is a great post

with a lot of good points...gets my up-vote!

Ron, all I ask is that you

Ron, all I ask is that you please don't refer to all of your supporters as
'the young people'---gahhh!

Aside from the fact that you have supporters of all ages, what a way to discourage potential delegates from seeing your point of view.

LOL

I always cringe when he says that, every single time Dr. Paul says that, because that is just what he is doing: Alienating my generation and so many others.

Thanks for the suggestion. Sure hope someone close to him reads it and clues him in on it.

Good post

change does not mean changing his message or who he is. It just means using the speech to try to win, instead of trying to educate. I love that he ususally tries to educate, even when others wouldn't. But this is the moment to go for the win.

That is excellent, Ian.

Tell those Romney delegates what they want to hear without going off message. I think you can also come up with a way to throw in Obamacare/Romneycare - we need a one-two punch in there, too, to bring the Santorum/Gingrich delegates on board.

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.
James Madison

Yes definitely

Healthcare mandates and Obamacare/Romneycare hit a raw nerve with Andrea Saul comments and caused widespread derision of Romney and/or his campaign amongst GOP ranks.

So Obamacare/Romneycare needs inclusion.

"In the end, more than they wanted freedom, they wanted security. They wanted a comfortable life, and they lost it all -- security, comfort, and freedom. When ... the freedom they wished for was freedom from responsibility, then Athens ceased to be free."

The RNC is feeling a bit queesy.

They're beginning to realize they may have shot themselves in the foot by pushing Romney through the primaries at all cost. Ron Paul people are certainly disenfranchised. They've ended up with a dog that can't hunt. Mitt's your stereotypical politician who may look good on paper, and in the boardroom, but he just doesn't "connect" with people. The street smart, smooth talking Obama, will dismiss him with out breaking a sweat. There is only one way I see Obama being defeated now, and it's not going to happen. That would be to have Ron Paul as VP, and at least, embrace the idea of auditing the Fed. As I see it, the RNC is "DOA".

alan laney

Those are all great talking points, but

What needs to be addressed is not going to be addressed, and that is the "secret government", or the Council of Forein Relations and the global corporations with their area councils (CEOs of the global corporations working with the elected at the top, and our Governors, past presidents of both parties, the U.N., and MSM, who are overpowering both major parties and destroying the careers and silencing those who believe and stand for the Constitution.

The 5%, who have money and power that can make and break people, are operating on another level to force their choices of candidates and issues on the people, as our government is in transition from a government of, for, and by the people, to a global government of, by and for the 5% and their global corporations, which of course includes the federal reserve bank (perhaps preparing to morph into a global reserve bank).

Being that these people are more powerful than any elected official, and that some are elected officials, Ron Paul represents wee the people, and his silence is what has kept him in the race, yet segregated, as his event is supported by the RNC.

The 5% are sending their influence to Tampa, with plenty of money and MSM stars, and political movers and shakers, who will be at those high priced dinners, manning the seminars and conferences and funneling the delegates to vote for Romney. Any mention of Ron Paul will "alert" others that you may be a problem that money can't buy, so one will find themseves marginalized, treated poorly to the point, that if you crack, well, then you're a crack pot and a danger and need to be removed.

This is not a rational, reasonable, kind, compassionate, considerate event unless you are willing to be a pawn for the NWO.

Ron Paul is my political leader in that I take his actions to be lessons for my own political survival. I will be very interested in what Ron and Rand have to say while in Tampa, where I expect Romney to win, because that's who the 5% have chosen.

Furthermore, I think it will be important to respect Ron Paul's delegates and what they are up against. Many here refuse to join the GOP because their distaste and loathing of the party is more powerful than Ron Paul's request we all join. The delegates are going to be in the belly of the beast, and I am going to be praying for them, that they come out ok, because it's no place to become a hero. It's not going to happen, and to think it will, especially if you did not join the GOP, or become a delegate, is unreasonable.

I agree with what ronpaul1fan

said. The issues you raise are not for the next President of the United States, Ron Paul, to raise at his nominating convention. As Ian noted, Ron Paul needs to stress how he alone can beat Obama, how he will take command and be a leader by beginning to bring our country back to its founding principles by being fiscally responsible and eradicating anti-Constitutional legislation.

If Tyranny and Oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.
James Madison

I too agree with ronpaul1fan

Ron Paul can stress those issues and he may light upon them, but what I brought up is THE problem, and what he and Ron Paul Republicans are actually up against in Restoring America.

Ron Paul Republicans are THE heirs to Ron Paul's message and we have a huge job to do, and many fronts against us and even among us, the only thing that seperates us is the fact we are Republicans (on the front line).

Off Topic Question

Good Morning Granger, Last week I was reading a comment you made about the town you live in and how yall have some kind of exchange dollars in that town. Can you tell me more about the way that works when you have a few spare minues. Thanks :)

Hope this helps

GOOD MORNING TO YOU bear!!!

http://campfire.theoildrum.com/node/5158

Thanks!

Do you like the idea? Do you use them? Does it work well? Is it beneficial as far as you can tell. I talk with Josf alot about competing currencies and I had never even heard of them before talking with him. Thanks :)

Yes I like the idea

I live in a very special place in the world where we not only dare to think outside the box, but act outside the box. That money is coveted, and worth more as a articfact than it's value, but we know we can do it, and we are educated about it.. there are other alternatives.. we also have wooden nickels for example.

In the old days, the lumber company didn't pay notes, but you got company script.. so there's always been one form or another of mendo money.

.

.

Thanks Granger :)

Thanks Granger :)

Sure thing bear!!

BTW, I happen to think that the cash back or value dollars offered in stores, for example, "Buy $15 of such and such and get $5 reward bucks" and the "reward bucks are printed on the recipt" are a form of legal tender.
