Republican Party of Texas Emails Dresscode & Schedule for RNC in Tampa

In case you were wondering, the RPT emailed out the dress code and schedule for the convention delegates.

CONVENTION ATTIRE

Let the packing commence...

August 10, 2012

Some of you have asked what to pack for convention. Below is a schedule of suggested attire for each convention session as well as some packing suggestions for the week. Special thanks to Executive Director Beth Cubriel, Finance Director Keri Mason and Victory Assistant Rachel Wilson for their help and input on the coordinations.

Monday: This is going to be the longest day as there are two sessions and we will not have time to go back to the hotel between the two sessions. As such, please dress comfortably and in business casual attire. Some suggestions – dress pants and a nice shirt, khakis with a polo. You might want to consider dressing in layers, as Tampa will be hot but the convention center will likely be cold.

Tuesday: Adams Insurance Service has graciously purchased Texas Flag polo shirts for every delegate and alternate and Texas Memory Systems has purchased very nice cowboy hats for delegates, alternates and guests. The shirts and hats will be distributed during registration. On Tuesday night, we suggest wearing the flag shirt and cowboy hat, for those of you who want to coordinate with the rest of the delegation. We suggest pairing the flag shirt with blue jeans. Please note that it is not possible to change shirt sizes or hat sizes - all of these items are already produced or in production. The RPT has provided the list of sizes to the vendors weeks ago from the information that you submitted, and are not coordinating any further actions with their production.

Wednesday: Vice President night at convention. We suggest for this evening to wear the blue, button up oxford shirt purchased for all delegates by State Senator Dan Patrick. This shirt is appropriately paired with khaki or tan pants.

Thursday: This is the final night of convention and the most formal. We suggest wearing a dark suit and white shirt or dark dress. The RPT has ordered SILK ties for men and SILK scarves (scarf measures 12" x 54") for ladies with the official Texas Delegation logo. You are not required to purchase these items, but they are a great souveneir and a way for you to coordinate your attire with the delegation. You can purchase these items for $35.00 each (CC processing fees extra) by using this convenient EventBrite form. The scarves and ties will be for sale for DELEGATION MEMBERS first, and then available to guests in Tampa if there are any remaining. If you are a delegation member who buys one before the convention, the items will be available to pickup at Saddlebrook when you receive your delegation "swag" on Sunday. Otherwise, they will be available for purchase during the week as well.

In addition to convention attire, there are some practical items that we suggest to include in your luggage:

Comfortable shoes: You will be on your feet during convention and also doing a lot of walking to and from the buses. We also don’t know how long you will be standing in line to wait for the shuttles at the conclusion of the convention session that night. Keep in mind that in large crowds and while moving around outdoors your shoes could get stepped on, staged or mudded. Please keep this in mind, as you may want to leave your Manolos at home! (Note from Chris: I don't know what Manolos are, but Beth thought it would be important to state.)

Small handbag for the convention center: The space at your chair in the convention center is going to be limited and lugging a large tote bag on and off the shuttle bus will quickly grow old. Therefore, we strongly recommend that you bring a handbag only large enough to carry your essentials. Don’t plan on being able to bring water or food into the convention center.

Vacation attire: Monday is a full day at the Times Forum but you will have most of the afternoons on Tuesday - Thursday to yourself for free time to sit at the pool, play tennis or golf, or to tour Florida. Please remember to pack clothing to accommodate your free time activities. And don’t forget your sunscreen!

Leave extra room in your luggage: Whether or not you plan to buy anything in Tampa, you will be given souvenirs from the convention with your registration. You will want to leave some room in your luggage to bring these items back to Texas with you.

I trust that this fully answers everybody's questions about delegate attire. These are the best suggestions of folks who have been before and I appreciate their input. Also, please remember that the clothing being provided is done so through the generosity of sponsors and we are grateful for their support of the delegation. As usual, I would kindly request that you only email back with questions on this topic if they are truly important - as packing, colors, and accessories that are not mentioned in this email are matters that are up to your discretion as individuals, and not the responsibility of the RPT staff.

Also, in recent days, I have been receiving as many calls from guests as I have from members of the delegation. I certainly don't mind answering questions for folks to be helpful, but I am getting bogged down with questions over items that have been already discussed either at our meeting in Fort Worth, or through email communications over the summer. I would kindly request your help over these hectic next three weeks to proactively communicate details with your guest directly instead of having them contact me. Especially since so many of you have made numerous changes to the number and names of your guests over the summer, this has been an extremely time-consuming activity to accommodate people who are not members of our delegation. I appreciate your cooperation on this matter.
