Is not the VP supposed to be 'nominated' ?Submitted by barrister on Sun, 08/12/2012 - 16:05
This question is for those who are really on top of all the party rules: How is it we have come to the point where the man who is not even officially the presidential nominee yet (Romney) just gets to "pick" who the VP 'nominee' will be? Is not the VP slot also subject to the will of the people at the convention? This is all nuts to me. We went from a system that the Founders created where the runner-up in the presidential race automatically became VP, (and President of the Senate) to now, where the people have no voice at all in selecting the VP... At least, under the Founder's system, the minory who lost the Presidential race still had some representation at the Federal level. I think it was beautiful, and I do not understand why it was changed.
