Social Security Administration To Purchase 174 Thousand Rounds Of Hollow Point Bullets

First it was the Department of Homeland Security, then it was the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and now the Social Security Administration is set to purchase 174,000 rounds of hollow point bullets that will be delivered to 41 locations across the country.

A solicitation posted by the SSA on the FedBizOpps website asks for contractors to supply 174,000 rounds of “.357 Sig 125 grain bonded jacketed hollow point pistol ammunition.”

An online ammunition retailer describes the bullets as suitable “for peak performance rivaling and sometimes surpassing handloads in many guns,” noting that the ammo is “a great personal defense bullet.”

The synopsis to the solicitation adds that the ammunition is to be shipped to 41 locations within 60 days of purchase. A separate spreadsheet lists those locations, which include the Social Security headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland as well as major cities across the country including Los Angeles, Detroit, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Denver, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Seattle.

Hollow point bullets are designed to expand as they enter the body, causing maximum damage by tearing apart internal organs.

I Just Called SSA,and Waited 20 Minutes to Speak to an Agent

She, of course, hung up on me as soon as I explained the situation, and she would not/could not believe anything I said. Upon asking me where I was getting my information, and upon hearing the word "Internet," she talked down to me as if I was a crazy person.

Politicians will use war as the scapegoat for the coming economic crash in order so that they can blame the crash on the war, on the other country, and avoid being blamed themselves. It might not be the very next crash if they are able to delay again, but when the big crash hits that will be the one they use war as the scapegoat for.

My guess is that Iran will be that scapegoat. When they know the big crash is going to happen and cannot be avoided that will be the start of the war.

Chances are this is why Syria has been targeted lately, with governments such as UK supporting rebels in that country. Syria was/is allied with Iran.

The bigger threat, though, is Russia & China. Russia has released statements several times in the past few years announcing that they would consider any attack on Iran as an attack on Russia. China's energy future is directly tied to Iran, so who knows how China would react when Iran's energy infrastructure that would be used for supporting China is threatened. Pakistan & India are also relying on Iran's pipeline as well.

So, when the crash is on our doorsteps the US or Israel will attack Iran. The crash will anger many people in the US and around the world. Politicians in the US will blame our crash on Iran. Politicians around the world *might* blame the US for the crash. Russia might move to defend Iran. China might move to defend their energy partner. I doubt India or Pakistan would get involved, but Pakistan does have plenty of reason to be unhappy with the US with all of our attacks on their soil without their permission over the past 4 years.

We might find ourselves in a significant war against multiple world powers if things unravel badly.

their receivers are much more tough/thicker (designed to handle heavy sustained machinegun fire/recoil) and the barrel is much thicker than the typical AK pattern rifle, as well.

The round in question is a .357 SIG

not to be confused with a Magnum round. This round is on par with a standard S&W .40 or 9mm. Being a hollow point - any vest will stand a good chance of stopping it.

If it was a Magnum - even if it did stopped the bullet - you would probably still be so incapacitated it wouldn't matter. You would probably have a few broken ribs - wind knocked out of you etc.

... 9mm pistol ammo, yes. If you are lucky, even larger ammunition.

However, an military round (5,56 NATO) will pierce right through the vest. And if you are very unlucky, so will the vest make the bullet yaw which increases the damage dramatically on your body!

When I did the military service, Swedish, so were we taught to aim at "hard spots" (like bones), because this will increase the probability for the bullet to yaw.

Is that anything like the 9 mm or 5.56 nato to which you refer? The vests I've seen/heard of on the teevee are Kevlar, and it looks like one of them would eat a hollow point for breakfast, depending on the muzzle velocity. I imagine it might still hurt a bit.

.357SiGs are bottle-necked cartridges

based on a necked down .40S&W, the current de facto LE round, which was necked down from a 10mm parent case.

as for the body armor question, most higher rated pistol ammo armor will stop .357sig ammo; anything rated to stop .44magnum should stop any pistol caliber size below that, each manufacturer lists what they're rated for.

but, almost ALL centerfire rifle cartridges will rip through ALL current soft-body armor designs. The ones the military use have armored plates rated to stop .308/7.62NATO, 7.62x39mm AK47 rds, .30-06, and 7.62x54R SVD/Dragonov/Mosin-Nagant rds. Even then, they can't take sustained fire to same spot.

aside from the notion that a whole bunch of illegal, UnConstitutional agencies exist, worse, are being armed heavily, it's doubly obnoxious that these a-holes would intentionally defraud the taxpayers even more needlessly with more expensive ammo, like the .357Sig when 9mm or .40 would suffice!

from 'combat effectiveness' POV, with modern ammo, the real-life difference between 9mm vs. .40S&W, .357Sig, .45GAP, and... dan dan dan! .45ACP in jacketed hollow point ammo, is completely negligible.

so the only reason why one agency would have .357Sig chambered sidearms over 9 or .40 is so that they'll feel more 'special.'

in fact .357sigs are not just expensive, they're prohibitively expensive!

while most defensive hollow pt. ammos are around similar price range, except for 10mm and .45ACP (rarity, and latter simply requires more material thus higher the cost), because 9mm and .40 have been widely adopted, their range practice ammo are cheaper, too, relatively speaking. so even from a logistics standpoint, there is absolutely no need for .357sig; to purchase that ammo is 100% complete waste of taxpayers stolen wealth.
