Paul-supporting Delegates: Make Yourself Heard, but be Respectful

By Matthew Hurtt

With the 2012 Republican National Convention less than a week away, I want to take a few moments to give my fellow Ron Paul-supporting delegates and alternates (bound and unbound) some advice on what to do once you get to Tampa.

On Sunday, August 19, Ron Paul’s campaign held a conference call for delegates, alternates, and others to cover the details of the Convention, notably convention etiquette and certain platform-related issues that should please liberty-minded Republicans.

I was pleased to hear the focus on Convention etiquette, and I wanted to share the guidance from the campaign and my own thoughts for those Paul-supporting Convention attendees who may not have been on the call and to mainstream Republicans who are wary of our presence.

Most importantly, Paul campaign representatives encouraged delegates to act in a manner that would best embody the liberty movement and represent Congressman Paul.

If you would like to contribute to having a strong constitutional conservative at the Republican National Convention to help form party leadership to better follow the ideals of our nation's Founding Fathers on limited government, foreign interventionism, & strong individual liberties, I would appreciate if you can spare a buck or two to help with my expenses. The party establishment elite has chosen a $300 per night hotel for the Pennsylvania delegation and a $400 extortion fee for events already sponsored
and payed for by corporations. Add in transportation cost & incidentals, it really adds up. The party elite WANTS this exorbitant cost to line their coffers and eliminate the average Republican from attending, but with your help we can change this. Contributions will be taken until the end of August.

I'm currently far behind my goal. My chip-in site is...
You can contribute via credit card at the site above. The Chip-In site may not work with Macintosh computers that have problems with Flash.

If I don't reach my goal, I'll be going regardless, sleeping in my car, whatever's needed for the nearly 10,000 people who voted for me to attend the RNC. THANK YOU for whatever help you can provide, no matter how small.

I hope the delegates are respectful . . . to the constitution.

gold = money
war = health of the state
liberty = prosperity

Our Delegates Come from all walks of life

Let them be themselves. I read a comment about a week ago. There will be Romney thugs everywhere. When you see someone causing problems and maybe wearing Ron Paul gear. Follow them and see where they go after causing a rucus. Film them if they are not watching you. Don't raise too much hell though you might end up in a mental hospital for evaluation.

My suggestion for the delegates is to leave your Ron Paul gear at home and wear AMERICAN gear!

Dont let the media find you in paulgear, they will paint you all anarchists.

American flag T shirts and red white and blue.
no other flags.
only the American flag.
ALL Americans understand what the American flag represents, even the media cant reinterpret the American flag....

feel me?

"OH NO! He has a SON?" Neoconservatives and Liberals EVERYWHERE!

Rand Paul 2016

Matthew Hurtt, the person who

Matthew Hurtt, the person who wrote this piece, seems to be under the impression that he is bound to vote for Mitt Romney even though he "says" he's a Ron Paul supporter.

And we're suppose to take advice from some clown who thinks he's bound to vote for a certain candidate.

Instead of giving poor advice to Ron Paul supporters, I think Matthew needs to start listening to advice from Ron Paul supporters like me, and the first advice I would give Matthew is to realize you aren't "bound" to vote for any candidate.

As for your poor advice about showing a bunch of criminals respect, criminals don't deserve respect, they deserve to be shamed and ridiculed like any other evil doer. That's the only thing our delegates need to remember.

I cannot believe....

....that some people are STILL after all the evidence to the contrary under the impression that delegates are unbound in the first round of voting. I guess you guys won't figure it out till you watch it happen live on TV. When that happens, don't start thinking you were betrayed, or that all those Ron Paul delegates who managed to get a seat - while you did nothing - are STOOOPID or traitorous. Rather, appreciate the fact that maybe, just maybe, you don't understand the process, and were wrong.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

What evidence? Of course

What evidence? Of course they can vote for whomever they want. Are you forced to vote for someone in the voting booth? Think.

Some people are afraid of the repercussions for voting against their "binding". Some were forced to sign affidavits, etc. So they will be afraid of being removed from any GOP power in their state or other sanctions. Some will be persuaded by small favors or by group pressure. I expect most won't want to rock the boat when Dr Paul won't win. They will choose to save their ammo and fight another day.

What might happen is a few bound delegates will choose to vote Ron Paul but the delegate leader of the state is a Romney person and will ignore their votes and announce to the audience the "bound" totals he/she expected to see. When GOP don't like an outcome they simply ignore, lie, cheat or all of the above.

All delegates are free to vote as they please AT the convention. Prove they can't? Oh wait you can't because you are wrong.

"If you put a gun to my head and said vote Romney/Gingrich/Santorum...I would say pull the trigger!"

Ok buddy....

...sure thing.

I've beaten this horse to death, probably made the case at least two dozen times over the months here at the DP. Not going to do it again. At this point, I'll just let you watch the convention and find out for yourself.

"Alas! I believe in the virtue of birds. And it only takes a feather for me to die laughing."

Yup. I will watch it all at

Yup. I will watch it all at the convention where I will be a guest of an unbound Ron Paul delegate. Where are you watching it at? I do know what I am talking about.

"If you put a gun to my head and said vote Romney/Gingrich/Santorum...I would say pull the trigger!"

The media will be all over

The media will be all over the place, even at the Ron Paul Rally on Sunday. I plan on finding anyone who will interview me and speaking about the liberty message. I will do the best I can to represent the movement in a positive light.

The delegates themselves WILL do what they can to fight the disgraceful conduct by the GOP elites backed by the Romney campaign. Most of that will happen on Monday. Once they seat the delegates we need to go into PR mode and spread the message.

One convention and many misdeeds against us should not and will not define the movement. We can't show up and storm around like we own the place, getting people upset. We need to help plant seeds of liberty and put out the message as much as possible. National, international, local, I say we do all the media we possibly can.

That's my plan and from my understanding it is also the plan of many delegates. Wish us all luck!! BTW - I am a guest of a national delegate.

"If you put a gun to my head and said vote Romney/Gingrich/Santorum...I would say pull the trigger!"

Sit down and shut up

is what the delegates are being told to do.

Unless the Ron Paul delegates stand up and show some fight or at least a willingness to fight to overcome the heavy handed, sometimes illegal, and total disregard for its own rules that the RNC has shown with the complicity of the Romney campaign we're dead in the water after the convention. After Tampa, the Romney people will dominate the state RNC's and will do whatever is necessary to eradicate the anti-establishment Ron Paul delegates.

The Establishment despises wave makers and that is what the Ron Paul people are all about; making waves by disrupting the Establishment hold on the RNC and state party organizations. Politicians may resent opposition but they respect it when it is strong and has direction. Weak sisters don't get respect.

I recently attended our county convention as a Precinct Delegate. We had a candidate who opposed the Establishment chair. He was defeated two to one. The Establishment chair dominated the proceedings and ran the convention pretty much the way she wanted to. The delegates weren't allowed to have any input at all except to vote on the previously set up agenda.

The delegate list of who was to attend the upcoming state convention was composed before the gavel opened the convention. It is going to be an uphill fight. If we lay down and roll over at the RNC, you can kiss the Republic goodbye.

It only takes one to KEEP AMERICANS FREE. Know your duties & rights as a juror. Stop the unconstitutional conviction of innocents in federal custody. The Fully Informed Jury CALL 1-800-TEL-JURY www.fija.org IMMEDIATELY if not sooner. It's that important.

Well...Now...Let's not get carried away with it though

Respect is a two way street. And our guy Ron Paul is still in this race, no matter what the Romney campaign, the mainstream media, or the GOP would like America to believe.
This is not the Mitt Romney power hour show. This is the republican national convention from which will emerge THE nominee.
And it ain't Mitt...Not yet.

At least make some noise

For the Love of GOD when are you guys going to realize that all the noble efforts of etiquette and playing nice and being respectful to a party that has been in such bad taste all along in their treatment of Paul and libertarians is going to get you nothing but more just more invisibility. continue if you like being ignored. From what i heard Paul has already been denied a speaking position, which in itself would've only been throwing us a bone. Without us there is no future Republican party - so take hold!!! I hope as many people are aggressive and show their anger with the neo-con party.

there is no left or right, only system and anti-system.

I wonder what would happen if...

...all the Ron Paul supporters showed up with a big piece of tape over their mouth and written on it would say "I support Ron Paul". Just a weird thought. Wonder if the media would have a hard time blacking that out!

That is an interesting idea(regarding protest at the RNC)

That would be a peaceful protest and clear message if it didn't get completely blacked out and if enough people cooperated.

I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war. Ps 120:7

The local church(not a building -a people) is the missing link. The time to build is now.
