Romney wants FED audit - could cause GOP Convention fightSubmitted by kevinkervick on Tue, 08/21/2012 - 11:55
Presidential candidate Mitt Romney said he believes the nation's central bank should be audited so the citizens know what it is doing. This statement represents defacto if not direct support for Congressman Ron Paul's signature issue, and a political calculation that Governor Romney undoubtedly hopes will help him with Paul's supporters in November.
This is an issue that highlights the different priorities of the populist and elite constituencies within the Republican Party. More importantly, it pits the Independents and the Libertarians against the Progressives in both political parties and their corporate media benefactors, that support the powerful alliance between central government and central banking. Politically speaking, support for this issue from Romney and Ryan make it more difficult for the Obama team to portray them as cow-towing to corporations and banking elites at the expense of the middle class.
