Kurt Bills Flip-Flops: Switches Presidential Support from Ron Paul to Mitt Romney

Minneapolis Star Tribune: State Rep. Kurt Bills, who won the Republican Party's endorsement for U.S. Senate, switched his presidential support Thursday from Ron Paul to Mitt Romney.

Bills said in a statement that Romney and his running mate, Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, "alone have the ability to beat Barack Obama in November and help America rediscover its conservative principles."

Kurt Bills presses Republicans to back Romney, not Paul

In a statement being distributed by the Republican Party of Minnesota, GOP Senate candidate Kurt Bills states, "In order to defeat Obama and his lieutenant Amy Klobuchar, Republicans of all stripes must stand together. We cannot afford to squabble, and mustn't equivocate. We need to unite--standing on our shared principles--to win in November."

Disappointing

Im tired of compromise.

Me too, I am so d@mn angry. I

Me too, I am so d@mn angry. I am sick and tired of this stupid 'private party' excuse that allows them to get away with BS yet they somehow are allowed to manipulate voting that effects the entire country? How on earth that is somehow ok is absolutely beyond me.

We will not forget.

We must hold to our values and principles, even when they do not.

We have grown x fold since 2008 and will continue to do so.

When they pull stunts like this then we will work to get them out.

See ? Such a FANTASTIC example

See ? Such a FANTASTIC example of what it's all about :

It is only about beating Obama.

Whatever it takes:

compute, check, recheck, recompute the odds, and recheck again.

And what about :

Principles ? Values ? Concerns ? Issues ? Injustice ? Ongoing threats to the soul of this country and its Constitution ?

What about supporting, until the end, THE ONLY ONE who STOOD ALONE most of the time FOR 40 years about those ?

Hell, no... Now it's a better calculus, to get the power eventually, to go to anyone who is "popular" enough in the GOP and in the MSM.

Whatever the ideas and values, or absence thereof, are, pffft ! Who cares ?

Bravo !

So, now, they don't even bother to at least pretend Romney would be appealing to defend the values of Liberty and Peace.

To beat Obama. At all costs. Or rather, at all savings on the REAL, RIGHTEOUS fight for our principles.

Yes, go for Romney to beat Obama only.

Abandon Ron Paul when he most needs us.

That's right. You for sure know damn good about politics.

Bravo Mr. Bills.

Do you even know what Mr. Romney "stands for" ?

How dared you pretend supporting Ron Paul in the first place ?

I don't think I'm even interested to hear answers on this.

Shame at its finest.

I think if it were about beating O., the Repubs

wouldn't keep nominating obvious losers. I don't think the Establishment Repubs. want to beat Obama this go-round. It's not their turn, and if elected Romney would be expected to show some difference. But he wouldn't, so why would they want that exposed?

Cyril's picture

Well, I am not in the high

Well, I am not in the high spheres of the GOP, that's for sure.

Hence, I have no clue of what their ACTUAL plans have been or still are.

I have a life of self-sustainability to take care of, thanks, so, my interest in politics is fairly limited to spurts of support to the only one who has principles and still believes in America : our good Dr.

Ron Paul's message has been a NO BRAINER for 40 years now. He cured my disgust in political affairs one year ago. Before that, it was even more depressing for me than today : I d see them ALL as corrupt.

He was a revelation. My excuse is I am foreigner and was on the other side of the Atlantic 3 years ago, still.

Now, if the GOP wants to lose. I don't give a piece of ant crap, or if they only want to beat King Obama and become alike him ... Just the same, they can go for it, them low lives.

But I have such a good memory ... I will remember, for sure, WHO STOOD UP and who didn't... When the situation gets so bad, that, on the edge of the abyss, the Revolution stops being a rhetorical phrase.

Time will tell. It always does.

Long live Ron Paul and this movement:

Taking back The Constitution of the United States of America and giving it back to The People.

Let's keep standing until Liberty is restored, and our honor saved towards the Founders of this country.

Peace.

It's not a very strong sign of support

It's just "the other guy is horrible" rhetoric. I don't see it as "I agree with Romney". I'll file this under /WantsToSomedayRunForPresident

Did Benton Advise Bills To Switch Over To "The Romulan?"

This is awefully suspicious..The only one that hasn't let Ron Paul down is Rep. Justin Amash (R-Michigan, Grand Rapids)

Yes Ron did

endorse Texan republicans and I've seen the video where he said this. But it was for Texan incumbants only. Also Kurt Bills doesn't even have a name yet, we cannot tell what kinda person he will be. Ron has a 30 yr voting record that buys him some slack. Kurt bills still needs to buy that slack. We must drop him like a rock.

Ron also endorsed

Don Young of Alaska in 08.

LOL

What happened to principle?

excuses

Ron gets a pass because he is our Idol! all hail!
This is ridiculous.

Ron Paul suspended his campaign and is not seeking the nomination.. Ron's run is over so lets get over it and elect some new people. We'll see how they vote since their voting record is all that matters. If they fail to live up to their promises than vote them out. Some will fail and some wont.

Ron also endorsed Newt and John Boehner at one time btw

If you're going

to quote, please be accurate. The campaign was suspended in remaining state primaries because it was not fruitful nor a good use of campaign funds. It was not about the "beauty contest" but about delegates. They were two separate processes. JBenton said RP was not looking to be nominated from the floor; not the same as saying he wouldn't accept if nominated from the floor. I believe they are just keeping plans close to the vest, so to speak for now. There is a plan.

Whatever it is, we will soon find out. At least wait until after the RNC and the election to bad mouth and you encourage people to throw in the towel. Also,it is still a good idea for every one to speak out for the candidates who honestly support freedom and the Constitution...always, but you better know which is which.

???

Source? Chapter and verse!

Good idea!

Lets drop Kurt Bills, and let his neoliberal opponent take the seat! I mean who doesn't love more war? More spending, and oh boy, I sure love this inflationary policy we're experiencing! Get real.

Well it's the same thing Mike Lee did in Utah.

The minute he was elected he turned on the teaparty and Ron Paul Republicans to support Rmoney.

This is why you cannot compromise.

I guess this is what you call "taking one for the team". What a bunch of bull!!

Choke on your hypocrisy!

Dear Fellow Texan,

As you know, America faces tremendous problems. I have dedicated my career to fight for solutions, but I need friends in Congress who will help and work with me in these critical times.

That is why I am grateful for the friendship of Congressman Lamar Smith. Lamar Smith is a thoughtful, intelligent leader who keeps his door open to me and is always willing to listen. As the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, Rep. Smith's word carries a lot of weight on Capitol Hill and I am glad to see he fights to take principled stands on important issues like Healthcare and Cap and Trade.

Congressman Smith made a point of reading both of my recent books, The Revolution: A Manifesto and End the Fed and I enjoyed our discussion. True intellectual exchange has become all too rare in Washington and I appreciated his effort.

Lamar is also one of the true gentlemen in Congress. I value Congressman Smith's thoughtful approach and consider him a true friend. If more leaders in Washington adopted his style of governing, I know we could break down a lot of barriers.

I am proud of my friendship with Lamar Smith. I hope you will consider supporting him in his bid for re-election.

In Liberty,

Ron Paul

Choke on this explanation... lol

Ahhh the purist strike again.

We'll never achieve Liberty for this country if we did everything by what the purist have wanted. An endorsement isn't compromising principles, and if you think so then you're not to bright on how the world works. Sometimes you have to get down and dirty in the trenches to win a battle, yet it seems the purist want to lose the war without a fight. Endorsements don't mean jack diddly squat, it's what you do while in office that matters.

There will never be another Ron Paul, so get over it and yourselves and continue the fight for Liberty. The fight for Liberty doesn't end with Ron Paul, yet so many here seem to believe so.

Um... didn't you just say there will never be another Ron Paul?

I've been registered Republican my entire adult life and have served on several states' GOP state central committees over the years, so I understand pragmatism.

That said, I also understand what a principle is. So, no, I'm not going to support Rmoney or Kurt Bills or whatever sellout.

Thanks for your opinion!

You're welcome.

Good for you, yet by your own definition, Ron Paul himself is a sellout for endorsing neocons in his state. I'm not supporting Romney either, but if you think Kurt Bills is a sellout for being pragmatic...which you claim to understand, then don't expect to get anything done in turning this country around.

A proactive endorsement doesn't evidence pragmatism

IMO, there was no need to make a formal endorsement. It's not like Bills has risen to some great deal of national prominence. And he has to know that he's not going to convince RP supporters to switch, so to me, this looks more like a move of political expedience under the guise of party unity to defeat Obama. Maybe he's just not really that principled ya know.

"The rich man writes the book of laws the poor man must defend, but the highest laws are written on the hearts of honest men."

Ron Paul endorsed many a NeoCon in his day.

That's right folks. Ron Paul himself endorsed every Texas incumbent Neocon for political reasons in 2010. Look it up of you don't believe me. He even promised the state party that he would never support a primary challenger to an incumbent...and he did it all for political reasons. And amazingly YOU ALL STILL SUPPORT RON. So why the different standards for different people? Is it because you are all hypocrites? I think so. Unfortunately you wouldn't understand what principle is if it smacked you in the face. Being a contrarian asshole is not being principled...

Again no source... hearsay...

??? Do you have a source on the two facts you relate?

1. Ron Paul endorsed every...
2. Neocon?!

Need source for the endorsement and for the Neocon status of that candidate.
